Hi friedcat!
Will these work on OS X?
I've assumed the answer to this is 'no', but given that it is just a USB stick you might have luck with running a Linux or Windows VM in VMWare or something and assigning that USB port to the VM.

Yes, cgminer can run on Mac (if you're lucky/clever in compiling it, or get someone lucky/clever to do it for you) but I saw some mention of a USB driver that's needed, which I presume you won't find for OSX. *Edit: perhaps I'm too pessimistic, I see a Mac driver listed here: http://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/Pages/USBtoUARTBridgeVCPDrivers.aspxAgain, I don't know for sure either way if it can work (just taking an educated guess here based on previous experience mining for Bitcoins on Mac) but just wanted to point out that either way you have the VM option. Can anyone who's got one in hand tell us for sure?

Does anyone know what the deal would be with import taxes and/or VAT for this stuff coming into the EU? Specifically either Poland or Sweden?

To Denmark: You are to pay VAT + handling fee + tax. VAT is 25% of what you paid for the item, including the shipping fee. The handling fee is ~100DKK, and the tax is a few percent, depending on the country from which the item was sent. If the item is sent from the US, there is no tax on electronics. AFAIK, the rules for Sweden are the same as Denmark, but the handling fee and tax might vary a bit. I suspect the same thing goes for Poland, except that they have only 23% VAT. The above goes for items sent from a country outside the European Union. If the item is sent from within the EU, there are no extra charges.

Quick, you better tell Apple that!! I'm sure they believe it's BSD!!!!! </sarcasm> BSD and Linux are different, even if very similar.

I personally consider Apple to be more Mach then BSD since I place significance on the kernel structures, though the userland is related to FreeBSD. Probably would have been, or would now be, closer to Linux but for license issues. And BSD vs. Linux have some pretty significant differences in things like the USB stack so 'very similar' is arguable.

I was simplifying, having used both (Linux and BSD, not just FreeBSD) since about '98 I am aware of the differences.

Why are these items selling for BTC1.99 at bulk rates? It does not make sense as they barely will break even after what maybe 1 yr at best?? If I buy 1000 usb sticks from china I expect to pay 50% less than if I order 100.
What's up with the economics here?
Especially for EU we have to deal with about 20 to 25% tax on top of that.
