Yep...all these Bitcoin supporters who are lining AsicMiners' pockets are hurting themselves in the long run. If you are interesting in Bitcoin mining you need to steer clear of this device.
Problem is nobody else is shipping anything immediately (unless you ordered MONTHS ago) so what do you suggest?
Take that 1 Bitcoin and invest it into something which might make a return. If you spend your 1 Bitcoin on this device, you'll be making 0.007 Bitcoins per day which will be dropping 0.001-0.002 less per day every couple of weeks.

ASICMiner shares?
It's at 3 Bitcoin per share and look at their dividend payouts...terrible.

Legitimate question:

Does this mean that they are going to refund 1.99 BTC-0.89 BTC = 1.1 BTC per unit to anyone who has purchased over 1000 units?  Or 1.1BTC *1000 = 1100 BTC to each person who has purchased over 1k units?  If so, where does that BTC come from, and how does it affect dividends?  Or am I reading this wrong?

I almost asked this also since its a bit ambiguously wordd.

I'll bet that since these are new terms of sale, the 1000 counter starts today.

If not, I'd hope the buy organizers will return some of the 1.1btc to those buyers who helped them hit their quota.

Soooo they figured they were done price gouging their potential customers, and decided to give them a (little) break?

Sure the dividends seem small, but the share value continues to grow. You can always sell the shares and make a profit.

When it comes to investing in niche markets without even partial company disclosures, you might run out of buyers.

OP Updated

If you reach the total volume of 1,000 USB sticks, price is dropped to 0.89 each. We will also pay back the price difference of all your historic transaction (timeline started from the 0.99 pricing) of USB sticks. For example, if you bought more than 1,000 sticks, 500 for 1.99 and 500 for 0.99, the new price will be 0.89, and we will pay you the price difference for the 0.99 USB sticks, that is (0.99-0.89)*500=50BTC.

Sorry for the original ambiguation before that misled some customers that the price difference we pay back is 1.0BTC. What we expected to say is for the price difference based on both new prices.

@friedcat
Can I purchase USB miners directly from you if I order more than 50 units?
I am in the first 3 regions, not rest of the world... Smiley

Thanks for the clarification. I had hoped to receive a credit for previous sales, as the original wording implied, so I could pass refunds/credits onto my most recent customers who may feel a little sting with today's price cuts  Undecided That sure would have done a lot for maintaining goodwill throughout the transition.

As it was originally worded, I imagine there would have been some interesting incentives for re-sellers such as myself to keep selling ASICM products. Next week's divis would have been record breaking!!

I don't understand all these people who complain about them "overpriced" and "robbery".
If you don't like the price then simply don't buy. There is no lack of demand even at this price, so nobody cares about your complaints. Obviously AM reaps the benefits of no competition, and that's okay, because the price is determined by market, not production costs. You don't expect friedcat to be marxist even though he is from "communist" China. Smiley

Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth. There is no spoon. Then you'll see, that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.

Being "overpriced" or "robbery" doesn't enter the equation really. We all bought at the initial price for our own reasons. It's the point of a 50% price drop in such a short time that is disconcerting and hurts a little bit in the gluteus maximus area  Undecided

Even for those of us that made 50 stick purchases @ 1.99, it would be nice to be able to have the option to purchase another 50 @ 0.89 instead of 0.99 (although I'm really more excited to see what happens with the new blades).

It's my understanding, based on discussions with friedcat, that the recent price drop is the result of new larger manufacturing runs of this product (economy of scale).

Just like when you print magazines ... printing 100 may cost you $200. ($2 each)

But come back the next day (because you realized there was incredible demand and need a lot more) and ask for 300 magazines and you might be surprised that it only costs you slightly more ... $300 total. ($1 each - 50% off!)

As a re-seller who has been in constant contact with friedcat, I can tell you that I've told him time and time again that demand was crazy and he'd better get more made fast. He ramped up production and now is not only able to meet demand, but he's able to do so at half the cost because his re-sellers have given him a better idea of the true quantity needed (rather than a rough low-ball first guess).

I'm speaking both as a re-seller and as a customer who owns block erupters as a personal mining venture: we buy items based on their perceived value at the time of purchase. It's our responsibility to evaluate their value and make an appropriate offer if we deem fit. I fail to see how future prices have any effect on your opinion of a product that you previously purchased after thoroughly researching it. I was satisfied with my purchase back then, and I'm satisfied with my purchase now.

I just finished typing up this same thing to a customer who has been demanding a partial refund from me due to price drops, etc. - it just doesn't work that way. Pay what you think a product is worth (not a satoshi more) and don't think twice about it, both for your mental health and mine  Wink

Future price has zero effect on my opinion of a product. I'm just grumbling a bit is all. Sorry. Tempted to get another 50 of these to add to my farm Tongue

EDIT: And thanks for your anecdotes as a reseller. Appreciate your perspective.
