ICO is Initial Coin Offering and they always give discounts and freebies to  attract more investors, they also hire campaign managers to promote the project and add more success rating on the Coin they will release. Many company and project release CIo everyday as they want to be on the line where bitcoin and other successful coin are now. but most of the ICO now are not that successful so beware and make sure to review it before you invest with a single coin .. there's a lot you can use to make a better decision .. like the ATLANT (ATL) coin they are focused on real state and they are having  nice crowdsale and good scores now..

Basically, if you get in an support the coin early by buying it - you tend to get it at a cheaper price. If the coin does well - you do well. If the coin dies - well, you've lost your money.

At the end of the day, it's just a way to raise money so that the coin can further it's development, get added to exchanges, etc. People are coming out with new coins with new features all the time, so there are a ton of them out there. The main thing to do if you're interested in getting involved is to do the research before investing.

You can do research by reading their whitepaper or view the details of a thread or many other ICO's sites that provide information about the ico's. I think it's worth to invest, many people are choosing to invest in ICO's

As what other people has said above, the initials ICO stands for/means initial coin offering. And in selling stuff(not limited to coins only), people need to draw attention so that people would actually dig in to their products/coins. And so every ICO would do everything they can and whatever gimmicks possible just to have lots of people buying and promoting their coins. Be it freebies, articles, ads. Everything!

I also do not like having all these different coins popping out all of the time. But sad thing is we can't stop it. And knowing i need the money, i just chose to go with the flow.

ICO are basically fresh coins that are yet to be launched in the market . As you know now what ICOs are from the answers above I would like you to also know that creating a new coin or being an investor of a new coin as risky as trading in a shitcoin. ICOs have been in the trend for quite a few months but then the China ban made a huge impact on the trend. Many ICOs have been raising funds from the investors and then scamming them later and running away with their money and that's why ICOs had been banned in China. Its a temporary ban though since they are planning out to regulate ICOs in their country which is major step towards better usage of cryptos in future.

In my opinion, an ICO is an event whereby a company generate funds for a certain project, some of the funds will be used for the development of the project. Early investors are offered bonuses, while the project might consider marketing their coin through bounty campaigns investors will be offered freebies for helping in marketing the project. The reason why a lot of ICOs are popping out of nowhere is because people are greedy. Amd people want easy money.
