Does anyone know or can reccomend the best way to store passwords? Is there a program you can use or a way to encrypt a file with all your passwords on it?

I can recommend you program with a name 1 password, it is so usefull. And in mac keychain is a must! You must use some tracking/backuping program these days. Just to play safe with your funds.

There are good password managers that are completely free. I suggest using a search engine to search for best free password managers. Free ones like KeePass will come up in the results

Use DashLane. It isn't free, but it's pretty cheap - around 40$/year. This is the top between password managers. BTW here is the hint how to buy at lower cost. Register at their site and get demo for 1 month. Use it and in a few days they will send a message with huge discount (50%). You must just wait this moment

Don't trust any software for passwords. You can try to write them to paper. Yes its a old style but its the safest way to store passwords for big amount of money.
Ledger is suggesting to store seed to paper too

The old way was to always change passwords every few months, but now research shows that the best way is to use an email accessible password keeper, like an app on your computer or browser to store all passwords that are encrypted so you never need to type in it (keylogger proof). However, lose the password and you're stuck all over again. Memory is not reliable so a paper with password printed on it is somehow the most secure. Even if stolen people won't know what it's for.

I didn't use any program to save my password. I just made only one password in all accounts like in gmail, facebook, instagram, bitcoin, etcetera so that I will never forget it. But sometime when I first time to log-in in any of my accounts using my cellphone there is a pop-up message that asked me if I want to save my password or encrypt it with google then the next time I logged in password is already read.

I've been using the avira password manager for over a year now. It generates and stores the password which I don't ever know and don't need to as I can easily get it running in any machines with just a few clicks.

Old school is always better. I do the same and change passwords every 1-2 months. And I use two factor autentification via google autentificator, sms or mail if it possible

Don't let some software handle your password. Here is a good idea for you.
1. Make a password with mix jumbled letters, special characters and numbers
Ex: kxi,#€@¥@;"¥hekw8262&# this way it's nearly imposible for the attacker to brute force this kind of password

2. Write it down on a piece of paper then hide your password.

I think the best and safest way to store passwords would be to scribble it down on a piece of paper or if you have an old phone that you are not using anymore and still works, you can also store them there.

You can always create your own cipher. Just why do you need it? I think that store passwords on a flash drive or laptop that never connects to the network. Now you can buy an old laptop at the price of a new stick. Important to always use 2 factor authentication.

That is one of the least secure methods of protecting yourself! You should never (ever ever) use just one password for everything. At a minimum, divide your password needs into thee tiers, ie

Tier 1 password - most sensitive information and sites, like banking and exchanges or wallets (personally i use diff passwords for exchanges and wallets)

Tier 2 - medium sensitive sites like emails

Tier 3 - fluff sites that don't contain much info on you

So the same password for all tier 1 sites, different one for tier 2 and another one for tier 3

I stored my passwords, private keys and wallet address in my yahoo.email so that everywhere i go i could use them. Yahoo email now have 2 factors authentication in which every time you log in they will ask of your password and the pin that will send to your personal phone, if these two will not meet then it is impossible for you to open your email. This features alone is hard to guess except if you did not memorize it. Just make sure you will not accept the pop up alert requesting you to auto save the password in every computer that you will going to use.

Earlier I was of the same opinion that it is better to keep it all in the mind and somewhere on a piece of paper, until I failed this method, and then had the longest process of recovering my account. It's a big mistake to use the same or similar passwords everywhere, i mean not social network as fb or twitter, but gmail, wallets and other accounts... when it's not about 2/3/4 passwords, and not all of them you use equally often, the special program is simply necessary. I'm also looking for the safest one now, meanwhile keeping all the passwords on the cloud (temporarily). Thanks for sharing the options:)
