I couldn't post into the actual forum message as I am a 'newbie' and do not have posting privileges yet...

Here's the thread that solved helped solved the 4 vs 5 GPU issue - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=193695.80

I used it as a guide and found that a 'CLEAN' install of 12.6 was the only solution for me....  I now have "FIVE" 7950's running smoothly...  I may have to invest in WIN8 and get to "SIX".

For anyone needing more info read the complete thread above...  Any other 'hints' on getting to "6", I'm willing to try !!!  Let me know.

THANKS to all who post here, without this I would have never gotten this far....

I suggest you start buy installing xubuntu 12.04 (especially if you intend to build a mining rig)
Then you just need to have the right drivers, and you don't even need dummy plugs to mine.

You may also want to have a look at those sites:

And you should be good to go Wink

Linux is always better.

But if you need windows, I've read that windows 8 usually allows one more GPU than windows 7.

.... The saga continues.....

I downloaded the WIN8 trial to get 5 GPU's using current AMD drivers vs. the WIN7 config from my initial post... IT WAS NOT STABLE....

I am now running  (5) - 7950's under WIN8 , I=20, stable at 3Mhs at temps of 75-80 , undervolted at 1.088 using MSI Afterburner

If the cards are NOT undervolted the best I can get is  I=17, the GPU's run VERY hot 88-93 and POWER draw is an extra 50-70 watts extra per card.....

BEFORE I try  xubuntu I have been searching everywhere to find 'undervolting' options for the GPU's... no luck so far..  ANYONE have info Huh?

Any suggestions ....

Thanks in advance....

There is a special BAMT tuned for 7950 only.

litecoinbamt1.0.img is the file name, can't remember where I got it from - tried the bamt_v5phillips7900 but didn't work.

Thanks for the info, This would be GREAT except for the fact that I still can't 'UNDERVOLT' the GPU's....   HEAT and POWER are the big issues....

Even with the extra cost of WIN8 , the savings in power and cooling costs are made up VERY quickly...
