There are already altcoins that surpasses btc in value but the value is not a factor to choose a successful altcoin.

What will you do if some altcoin (XMR or ETH for example surpasses the value of BTC, either in market cap or by the price of a token each? Will you sell your BTC to buy the more "valuable" coin, or continue using and holding BTC? Also, what do you think are the chances that it could happen? I would like to hear your thoughts and opinions.
Wel if you insist lol i think maybe not possible though that two are the nearest but so far ahead in bitcoin values bitcoin is so far ahead even on eth and xmr bitcoin has been going for 8 year now what is 8 years of advance than other altcoins. Altcoins depends on fees not like bitcoin on some cases dont have fees to exchange but some transactions are but it all starts with no fees to handle i think it is almost impossible but if bitcoin will be going out business that will come though or that time will bitcoin will be surpassed

I think it is not possible for some altcoin to overcome Bitcoin. All of the altcoins are Bitcoin based. I mean, look at the exchange sites, how can you buy an altcoin? Of course through Bitcoin (and some via Ethereum). Aside from that, Bitcoin is the one who started it all. Therefore, it is the mther of all coins. And lastly, it is the only coin with unknown developers. We inly know its developer by the name of Satoshi Nakamoto.
Yes I agree it's impossible for other altcoin to overcome Bitcoin. It's like a tree, Bitcoin is the root and the altcoins are the branches. Without the root the tree will die. It is not like that. There is no rocket science behind this fact that bitcoin is only famous just of having big profit ratios. As now, if another coin with more profit ratio would be developed, believe me there is nothing about bitcoins would be remained on news. It is just matter of money and profits whosoever can make more that will be the king.

Unlikely, BTC represents like real-world gold in terms of value, it serves as it hedging currency to provide value for other alts as well. Resistance to change is very high unless the alts reach audience and users within a very far coverage like ETH (milliosn and millions of frequent users). Taking BTC spots is very difficult as the legacy properties it holds as the pioneer of cryptocurrency.
The market would definitely adjusted accordingly by the time you mentioned came, look how alts built on Ethereum blockchain/smart contract are depending its native ETH.

I think OP means more valuable in terms of price and marketcap, so each coin and the total marketcap needs to be worth more than bitcoin

In today's condition, chances seem to be very less for an altcoin to surpass the value of bitcoin. No such potential coin is found till now.At once,Ethereum was expected more. But it already had faced a hard fork and just got split in to ETH and ETC.
Even the most expected Monero and Zcash which provided full anonymity in transactions as an added feature have also failed to succeed bitcoin.
Now,we are now just seeing most new coins as just pump and dump coins which does not deliver any thing unique.
It seems that only Bitcoin would continue to be the king of crypto currencies for far more years.

I dont think there would be new coin to surpass btc specially in the near future maybe possible in 20 or more years from now lol. Even other altcoin surpass btc I still wont shift interest because if that time happen and I dont have that certain coin dont think there would still be too much significance if I buy cause thats too expensive already.

What do you mean by "another altcoin surpasses btc in price" cause as far as I know there are no altcoins which surpassed bitcoin in price. But anyway even if some altcoin surpass bitcoin I will keep on using bitcoins just because I love bitcoin of course I will still use the new altcoin but won't as much as bitcoin. But I don't think any altcoins even ether has the potential to reach what bitcoin has reached.

I would guess that it is possible for Ethereum (Ether + ERC20 tokens combined) to surpass the market cap of Bitcoin. I hope I'm around to see it.

Then it is good, as long as the value of bitcoins never drops or totally destroyed, it is good for us because there are another coins that is worth to invest. With that we can now have a lot of coins to invest in that we know that our money will not be wasted. If ever that ethereum surpass bitcoins it is in favor of me because I have saving all of my ethereum and I'm hoping that their value will also rise just what bitcoins are today. So if that happen I'm gonna be a millionaire in no time.

Well, I am using only one cryptocurrency and that is bitcoin. I do not think that some altcoins will surpass bitcoin because bitcoin is the most popular one. It is the first and very well stabilized digital currency. All emerging and existing digital currency prices were based on bitcoin price. In case it happened, I will just buy some altcoin but I will not lose my bitcoin because I trust this and I live with it.

It literally seems almost impossible to happen but when you are a trader you gotta be flexible and should not have fixated ideas. in case that happens we'd tune ourselves fast I think.

it all depends on market demand. it is not impossible if etherium exceeds the bitcoin price if eth market demand is higher than btc

If that really happens then we just shift to that altcoin. It's just an easy transition because as long that it is convertible to each other then we have nothing to worry about.
