Thanks for the detailed reply. But what if everyone in the network started using Segwit? Do you believe that would be enough in slashing the unconfirmed transactions down under 10,000?

I strongly doubt segwit will lead to lower fees, just a little more throughput. It's possible when a big service like coinbase switches, there will a bit of a shock resulting in temporary lower fees. But demand will quickly catch up

Ok, then do you believe Bitcoin Cash is on the right direction by making the blocks bigger or do you believe the best solution is now to make the transactions go to a 2nd layer or "off the chain" through the Lightning Network?

devans & RHavar,

What are your thoughts on implementing Lightning Network support? I've been using it on the testnet and although I'm not using a wallet interface yet (I'm interacting directly with lnd on top of roasbeef's btcd) I've already fallen in love with it. If you want to test an implementation of it on testnet or mainnet, I'd love to help, just reach out to me here or however else.

More likely than Lightning Network they would start using atomic swaps. These are more feasible, although the option to open a LN channel is also there and makes perfect sense.

...

I've been playing with it and am very optimistic. However, I'm not entirely sure it's stable or safe enough to want to integrate directly yet. However, I was thinking it might make a lot of sense to make lightning support as a 3rd party bot.

e.g. you PM lightning bot, and it gives you an invoice. You pay the invoice, and then lightning bot tips you.

And same thing in reverse for lightning withdrawals. This seems like a really low (and bounded) risk way of testing out lightning for actual production use

Interesting idea!

You could introduce a bot like this with tiny deposit and withdrawal limits for the first few weeks. By doing this
you eliminate the risk that people (or the software implementation) mess up and lose non-negligible amounts
of Bitcoin in the process (provided it is possible to actually implement limits with a bot like this).

Anyway, it is good to hear that you are at least thinking about ways to alleviate the issues
that especially small players experience due to the BTC network congestion.

I've been thinking about the same thing for another site, but have run into problems about trust. However, since lightning payments are usually small, in addition to the instant nature of the payments, I think I will still attempt it.

Will this site allow for any other types of coins to be available to deposit and then withdraw from using that same coin?
What is the withdrawal fee after lightening network is implemented, eventually as you do not have an eta on this like all other sites have encountered the same issues as you have:

Lightning network nodes are allowed to charge fees to route payments through the network, however they are nothing remotely near current Bitcoin network fees. LN fees are in the single digit satoshis, by my experience on the testnet. This may not be indicative of how it will work on the mainnet but they will be very, very small.

That statement is good enough for me. The only way to a sustainable "Bitcoin future" is to use all the best available infrastructure that are implemented.

To be quite honest, a part of me wishes that Bitcoin Cash will have a very high increase in usage just for their developers to see that the only way to scale is to use a 2nd layer. Making the blocks bigger and bigger everytime there is demand is not feasible long term.

this time is not yet available. but it seems that if many suggestions for this site accept altcoin it seems they will start thinking to make it happen. because here I see. bustadice gets a positive response from the players so maybe they will give the best for the players

I agree bustadice has been positive in making response to comments coming from their players especially if they thinks that comment can actuallly improve the current standing of their site. I am also looking for the possibilities of having other coins accepted and can be deposited in bustadice so that people can have more capital to use and play for also I hope bustadice can have a table of their current equivalent of bits.

Too many hassle to implement that however Im not sure If Daniel might already have a plan for this in the future. Meanwhile if you have no bitcoin to play you can always use shapeshift to convert your alts or use exchanger

Bitcoin gambling market is not that huge anymore so there is no point to put altcoin betting in bustadice as it is just a waste of resources but I dont know as Im not the owner of the site. Just stating facts

still have to pay $12-$15 fee.

I like to go to dice sites daily and gamble $20-$40. i do this daily with 2-3 sites.

these sites all have other crypto coins you can use

I refuse to pay the high btc fees. that $12-$15 fee is ridiculous. i can wait and play elsewhere till btc fees come down to $5 or below to get on the next block

IMHO, only bitcoin gambling have low volume currently probably because of the high fees, small gamblers are the ones really affected by this situation we are now, imagine a user wants to gamble $100 and needs to pay $15-$20 just to send their money to the site and another $15-$20 when try to withdraw so its a big loss already

Speaking of volume, even though I don't list bustadice on the frontpage of my site (yet - as it's still relatively new compared to others), I actually do track their stats: https://dicesites.com/bustadice

Pretty decent wagered IMO. Relatively few bets though, so more likely "few big gamblers" rather than "many small ones".

the popularity of bustadice is getting better. I am very optimistic with this dice gambling site. apalagibdengan falling bitcoin prices will further increase the number of players who will enter in bustadice. because with the fall of BTC prices, do not make the gambling gamblers to look for altcoin-based gambling sites

Bitcoin prices, its high transaction fees and slow transaction confirmations are the main reason for gamblers to avoid using bitcoins. So if gambling site offers other alternative coins which have a faster confirmation and low transaction fee then they can attract a lot of small gamblers to the site. For quite some time I already stopped using bitcoin for playing dice game.

Not literally true about this . If the bitcoin gambling market is smaller now, that means altcoin gambling market is pretty much the same

I'll use comparison from this https://dicesites.com/

If you see the weekly wagered top 10, it shows that top 3 is dominated with bitcoin gambling instead of alts. JD is in fourth spot with its altcoin gambling ( clam ). The other altcoin option has pretty much small volume as well so it is still not worth it

This is my personal opinion though and has nothing to do with bustadice Smiley

Is there a source of historical statistics on this? I would hazard a guess that although gambling market is smaller in BTC (or Alts) given the increased value in USD it is actually still growing. It would be nice to find some numbers to prove or disprove my theory.

Bitcoin gambling market is not that huge anymore so there is no point to put altcoin betting in bustadice as it is just a waste of resources but I dont know as Im not the owner of the site. Just stating facts

Are you serious with what you are saying? Bitcon Gambling is huge. With the cryptocurrency itself it still growing wouldn't it make any sense in stopping yourself to accept more altcoins in the process. And MinerHQ is right they should be accepting other cryptocurrencies if the gambler likes to stay away or avoid paying network fees that are high. Accepting Altcoins will mean no harm to there business as what they are doing is obviously accepting more room for growth in the future.
