Because to create new code for a coin isn't easy so mostly new coins are made based on Bitcoin’s open-sourced protocol and then different set of features are added to meet the creators needs.

They don't see it as a waste of time, but rather an opportunity to make a lot of money off course. Some succeed others don't. At the end we're all here for money.

People start to getting the know how just to create a cryptocurrency. They think they can create something like bitcoin and hold the biggest amount of the coins and get richt like this easy. I tend to think that such a development of the market is not development at all, but degradation. Now crypto-currencies are beginning to create politicians and celebrities. just like that, it's terrible.
