People are not honest at all mainly because of previous negative experience of being deceived. Some of them have inborn tendency to lie. Anyway a large number of liars is not a big reason to become a liar yourself. You always have a choice to say truth in any situation. Also I think that lying is really necessary when you do it for own safety, friends and relatives' safety and no more.

"As we’ve already touched upon, honesty can be hard to hear at times. Generally speaking, when someone’s honest opinion conflicts a great deal with your own, it will cause you some level of hurt or distress.

That’s why such free-speakers do still choose their words carefully so as to maintain their true perspective on things, while attempting to minimize the impact on the other person."

"While being completely open and honest with someone is a mostly desirable trait, there does come a point at which honesty becomes something else.

Honesty is, after all, just giving your own opinions, and opinions can contain spite and insensitivity. Telling someone they are grossly overweight might be an accurate reflection of the truth, but it is an example of a situation in which honesty is not really required. Such a person will be acutely aware of his or her weight problem and does not need to be told about it."

"As we’ve just discussed, as much as honesty can hurt, it can also be kind. In order to maximize the kindness and minimize the hurt, it is important to consider when the right moment for honesty is.

When a friend has just broken up with their partner, for instance, you might wish to tell them how much better they could do or how it was a disaster waiting to happen, but this is certainly not the right time for honesty."

"An astounding number of people think that keeping secrets is the done thing, whereas an honest person knows that almost all secrets – both big and small – will unravel themselves eventually.

The problem with secrets is that you have to repeatedly be dishonest with your words and it is incredibly difficult to maintain this act indefinitely. Sooner or later you will slip up."

Always triggers my mind why a high court case costs so much money, take so much time, etc. while the "criminal" can just say exactly what he/she did. So much easier!!

Can I ask why people are not honest. As in, why is it that people don't keep to their words even when they can do so? Can't I just do business with someone without signing papers and get lawyers and witnesses and still keep to my words? Can't we get trustworthy people anymore?
I believe there are many honest people. But if person not honest - he's got a reason for it, and most likely it is the benefit of some sort.

For different reasons; first dishonesty sometimes inherited, it’s characteristic by nature, another factor is influence and sometimes because of needs

A person should not be too honest it's extremely true but not totally lie. Bit honest when needed and bit liar when that's needed. It depends on the situation is.

Faithful people are deeply rooted in the family, because parents do not teach good children, grow up it will not be honest. So, the family is the cell of society. Good family will be good.

Nowadays competion is everywhere so to make themself superior to others, peoples start cheating .as now i am studying in kota first time far from my home. i experienced one thing that other than to ur parents u shouldn't trust to anyone.becoz no one is honest all make us feel that they are with us in ur bad time but actually they are finding the way to push us back in the race…and there is no one in the world that say god make my good later firstly make my friend's good..everyone wants there well first so never have the exceptations from others u have to do everything self and make urself such capable that u can help others…

Yeah, dishonesty is a big problem nowadays and actually, it always was.  I think more and more people choose to be dishonest because it is easier for them to get what they want by lying or not keeping their promises. It is very hard to always be honest but we have to try our best and show a good example to other people Smiley

My friend
It's hard to tell if a person is honest or not
You will know it over time only
Most liars lie for money
Before you put your trust in them
Try them first
Despite the trust you will find people deceive you after several times of confidence
It's hard to find someone honest
I hope you find people who are honest with you, sir. Thank you  Kiss

People are being dishonest because they are afraid to expose tha truth. They are afraid that if they expose the truth maybe people surrounds them dislke them or they are afraid to face the consequences or punishment because if you are being dishonest you are covering something or you have done mistakes or wrong.

Well, that's true if you are talking about someone who has done malicious works against his.her fellow.

But the OP is asking, why people are dishonest? Probably he mean that you can't trust people unless there is a written agreement between you two. In my opinion, man is greedy, he wants everything, and if he has a chance to grab someone's property in any way, he will do it. Verbal agreement without any supporting papers would just give them another chance to accomplish their motive.

because the person is dishonest they have different goals, some are dishonest for committing crimes and some are dishonest for good. dishonest for crime is to enrich themselves if it is concerned with money issues, while dishonest for athe good is to keep a relationship in good standing.

Everyone believes he or she is honest. But when it comes to something big. Hmmm. Dishonesty and doubt crept in. everone will say " I am not a thief" but if they come accross a big sum of money on their way, they will look left, right and centre before stealing it to themself. Self control is the watchward here.  Kiss

Peer pressure
I have surrounded myself with people who are honest, motivated and intelligent. But what about people who grew up with dishonest friends?
Is it their fault that they’re dishonest as well?
I am one who promotes that an individual is ultimately responsible for his or her own decisions,
but I do feel that we are a product of our surroundings.  Peer pressure can make a weak individual do dishonest things.
