Everyday I come on here and read a sad story about someone getting hacked and losing their Bitcoin / Ethereum. I hate reading them but its like a car accident on the side of the road, you can't help but look. Once you read the story it's clear that it could have been avoid had the user used a hardware wallet. I dont have alot of Bitcoin or Ethereum but I recently purchased my own hardware wallet to keep them secure, I strongly suggest others in my situation (less than 1BTC total invested) to go out and buy a hardware wallet. Right now. Why do small fries need a hardware wallet? We are the most vulnerable because we are less experienced. Most of us haven't experienced losing coins yet, either directly or through a friend. We probably download shit we shouldn't, left our private keys in some email we sent (I haven't done this but I could see myself doing something this stupid when I first started) and probably leave our desktop wallets open a bit too long. The small fries are vulnerable so we need to protect our investments. What is a hardware walletIts a devise that essentially stores your private key on it so you can't be keylogged and requires you input a password onto it, not your computer, before unlocking the wallet AND withdrawing any coins. Its safe, its secure and only the person with possession of the hardware wallet can withdraw funds (at least I've been told no one has legitimately hacked a hardware wallet without possession of it). It's easy to use. When you use a Ledger Nano S and activate it, the devise presents you with a private passphrase that does not show up on your computer. You write down the pass phrases, by hand (do not type it out, take a photograph, or anyhing of the like), and if you lose or break your hardware wallet you can buy another and gain access to it with the private passphrases. If you are really concerned about the passphrase being lost, buy a fireproof, waterproof safe and ziplock your private passphrase (waterproof safes are known to trap condensation which gets things wet - wet paper with pen = lost writing) so its airtight and lock it up. Its really secure so long as you keep the pass phrase safe. Hardware walletsLedger Nano S - https://www.amazon.com/Ledger-Nano-Cryptocurrency-Hardware-Wallet/dp/B01J66NF46/KeepKey - https://www.amazon.com/KeepKey-Simple-Cryptocurrency-Hardware-Wallet/dp/B0143M2A5S/Trezor - https://www.amazon.com/Satoshi-Labs-bitcoin-wallet-white/dp/B00P5HU80A/I have all my valuable crypto, that's currently supported, on my Ledger. My Bitcoin, Ethereum and you can bet your ass once Deep Onion is supported it will be safely secured on there too. The Ledger is easy to use and the instructions are crystal clear. At less than $80, there is no reason not to protect your investment. Even if you only have $250 in BTC/ETH, you will buy more so you might as well buy one of these now. I don't want to read another story about someone getting robbed of their Bitcoin and I want our community to flourish. Secure your coins!

Hardware wallets are definitely recommended. We all need to take especially good care of our holdings. Too many scams and malware around, and more will come as Crypto becomes more mainstream. Be careful!

I totally agree. You often hear about people that lost (a lot) of money because they get hacked. Using a hardware wallet is definitely recommendable, but I do have to say that your post is a bit cheeky as well by sharing your referral links. Makes you come across less sincere. (Just on a side note)

I have seen even some old dogs getting hacked because of their careless nature. It's not that hard to buy and store your cryptocurrencies on a hardware wallet and even if it is, it is for your own safety.

(Just on a side note) Hi, Those are not referral links. I don't even referral links to share on Amazon. EDIT: I see what you mean about the ref. Amazon must have put them on there. All I did was find the ledger on amazon and copy the link and click on the KeepKey and Trezor links that were suggested. They aren't my referral links i promise, I dont have Amazon referral perks or anything of the like. I'm going to see if i can edit them out. EDIT2: The ref thing was taken out and the links still work. Thanks!

Thank you this is helpful. I don't own a hardware wallet but I am planning to buy a Trezor as it has been around longer then other alternatives and has positive reviews.

This is true and this is a very good advice to all those that are just starting to use bitcoins and dont know how to protect their coins, i do use a ledger nano too, and it works perfect, and i love to have those extra layers of security because i know that i will never be hacked. I dont understand why there are some people who store their coins on poloniex or bittrex, or any other exchange, they are running in a huge risk of being stolen.

Yes actually this is a pretty good idea suggesting that buying hardware wallet makes the security more reliable because you are the one that holds your money. I believe using hardware wallet is not only for bitcoin. It is also for alternative coins.

Personally, I'm not comfortable with hardware wallets. Call me paranoid, but my cold storage is on air-gapped PC. Transactions signed on cold wallet and pushed from a machine that connects to the internet. I don't really know the level of competency of these manufacturers. And I also prefer the idea of using generalized hardware vs. specialized cryptocurrency wallet hardware because the latter puts a target on your back for theft. Again -- yes, I am paranoid. Better safe than sorry, though. Also, people should avoid third party sellers, Amazon, etc. when buying hardware wallets. There are ways to see if your device has been tampered with, but it's safe to assume most noobs won't bother to look. Buy only directly from the manufacturer if you want to use hardware wallets.

I can agree with you but the wallet needs to be secure and from a trustable company because some of these wallets can also steal everything you have it is very good to know which one is trustable.

Thanks for this sincere concern for the newbies of this bitcoin community and I’m one of them. I do use much of an exchange wallet and thinking that one day using hardware wallet is more of a necessity and a must.
It is what really needed in order to prevent such rampant cases of lost bitcoin because of hacking and online exchanges that turns out to be a scam and shutdown after collecting much amount.

That was a good advice mate, thanks for that. I was planning to buy some Trezor too but I don't know how much it was in my country here in the Philippines and where do I can find that kind of wallet since bitcoin is don't have much attention in the crowd by this time being. I really love that kind of wallet for better security because lot time I really read a review about all kind of hardware wallet and really of what wallets you adviced here are awesome and they are at the top that ensures for safety of your crypto coins.
Hope that I can find it here in my country since I've been online and never saw one and always product on abroad are always popping up and it has huge prize plus shipping fee. Thanks also for the advice, I'll keep that in mind.

This has become relevant again within my group of friends. Please buy a hardware wallet guys. I think that somehow people don't talk enough about hardware wallets, to show how useful they are, to show what they do good and what they don't do good enough. There are a lot of use cases even myself have to research for. Many new users don't even know about them because they are not enough advertised (some think that if it's so good, it doesn't need to be advertised; they're wrong). Even myself I keep telling myself I have to buy a HW wallet and I didn't yet. I am lazy; I keep thinking that I don't have so much money to worth the investment, although if I lose even my small amounts I'd be very sad. (so I will buy one, soon enough)

No oen can take you seriously because you are using a signature for a scammy project. Sorry for that, but it makes my stomach leave my body (literally) I totally agree. Using a hardware wallet is definitely recommendable, but I do have to say that your post is a bit cheeky as well by sharing your referral links. Makes you come across less sincere. (Just on a side note) Anyway, hardware wallets are always going to be the most safest thing that you can buy. I prefer to buy a Ledger, instead of buying a blue bottle of Johnny Walker, seriously.
