Bitcoin is a digital crypto currency that is not controlled by any country's central bank or government. Bitcoins can be traded for goods or services with vendors who accept Bitcoins as payment.
Each user's Bitcoins are stored in a program called a digital wallet, which also holds each address the user sends and receives Bitcoins from.

Bitcoin in a nutshell

Pretend you are in math class, your teacher tells you to solve problems using equations, you and all your friends and classmates start doing different problems, if you successfully answer a math problem, you are given a cookie. Those cookies are Bitcoins and you are the teacher, and your classmates are the computer, you command your computer. You tell your computer to mine (solve problems), and in return you are given a small amount of Bitcoin (cookies).
