I want to start a project to make a library that contains everything written on Devtome, as well as has the equipment to publish books for people who walk in.
There will also be books there to inspire writers, as well as references (geology, history, etc) for study purposes.

BTW, soon I will start publishing the things that are on Devtome in book (in the next 3 months). And there will be a Devtome library for sale somewhere online. Or you can buy individual volumes.
There will also be a 2nd edition, 3rd edtion, etc as Devtome is edited and extended.
It's open-source That doesn't mean publication is free. And the money will go into making it easier for everyone to publish things (for free if we can earn enough, and the Devtome stuff will automatically be published free of charge to the author). So it doesn't go against the open source idea.

What's the market for this? And why would people go to this as opposed to a library? Or use this versus other self publishing services, such as Kindle?
It's better than library. It's not a place to go to get random books, it's a place to go to write your own books, and see things other people have written at the same location. There is no market for it now, but there will be. It's like an "anti-writer's block library". And it can eventually become a meeting place for philosophical discussion and other things like that. There used to be places like that all over the world, where great minds would collect and ponder together (I've been to one in Colorado that was turned into a restaurant). The only difference is, we will encourage them to write and get things published, and you don't have to be a well off white male to get in.

Just had an idea.
Most libraries already have public computers, so we will do that. Plus we will mine
AND
Since I want to start paying people Devcoins for playing video games, we can make the computer section the gamer area, and anyone does things at the brick and mortar can stop and relax or fraternize by playing video games, while getting paid for allowing us to upload their gameplay. And if they want they can make their own online channels and start getting an audience for their philosophical discussion, writing, or anything else they want to do.

Yeah. I don't have an Xbox yet, but that will be remedied soon. So I will have the whole gaming aspect covered. I have 2 half written books, so as I said, in 1-3 months I will be publishing things from Devtome, and that will not be difficult at all. There are already a hand full of Devcoin videos on YouTube and plenty more on the way.

I just don't understand the reason why you would do a brick and mortar. There are way too many overhead costs involved, such as utilities, taxes, and maybe rental fees for your property. This will eat away at your profit.
Isn't it better to make an online platform because you eliminate these overhead costs and since it's online you can attract many more writers compared to the local writers at whatever place you choose to build the brick and mortar.
There will definitely be the availability of joining in the gameplay from home, or possibly some webcam discussions, and even forums. But bringing people together makes the possibilities endless. You can get to know each other better, make radio/video shows together, write and edit together, and go places together afterwards.

great advice "lawyer"
the only problem now is you will be ignored by finshaggy..
alot of people have asked him to develop his brain farts into proper business plans showing strengths weaknesses etc. but then he goes on a temper tantrum of insults because we are not instantly buying into his idea to instantly hand him money over.
so i just warning you now. try to emphasise the importance of developing an idea past a brainfart to him, but try not to sound like your bursting his imaginary balloon

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER. Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

dude dont diss the guy hes trying to make it work instead of complaining u can get off ur ass and try to help. Maybe he needs someome to help him with his analysis someone who has already done one that may be interested? Lawyer do you know of anyone?
With the right ppl we can efficiently find out if its a great idea or simple not plausible. Remember that sometimes ideas are initially critiqued and thought of as crazy but as the market changes they become not only accepted but depended upon. I say keep at it fin u put ur mind to it the dream will be realized.

I think you will get more people to buy in the idea, if you write a coherent business plan with the details lined out so that we will be able to see whether or not it is a good idea to invest.
Oh, you seem to have misunderstood. This isn't a thread asking for investment. Just kind of "announcing".

Also, in order to make the DevtoMe submissions suitable and worthy for publication, you would have to have some sort of editing process and verification of the information, especially if it is non fiction. So basically, you need some editors. Are you going to edit the articles yourself or are you going to pay for editors to edit the submissions since as far as I know, DevtoMe has no quality control process.
You're making up non existent problems. Devtome editors exist, and they can take care of that.

Face it noone knows your ideas better than you so you thenonly one that can make it happen. You announced it now you got people curious turn it into a reality. I'm not trying to diss him at all. I'm trying to instill a sense of reality. Investors want coherent business plans. FinShaggy is clearly passionate about his ideas, and has created many threads about the same topic. But his time would be better spent if he actually developed these ideas. Sure, we can provide references on how to write a good business plan, but we can't do it for him. This is because it's his own idea and we don't share the same vision and understanding as him. I'm not too entirely clear about what his visions for a brick and mortar store would be and how he intends to incorporate gaming and publishing together, so it's best if he does it himself. His idea may be good or bad, but they need to be well thought out or else it can't really be taken serious at all. Judging from this thread and how his ideas just seem to pump out of nowhere, it seems that this essential process hasn't been undertaken yet. Insert Quote Just had an idea.
Most libraries already have public computers, so we will do that. Plus we will mine Before anyone invests into any project, they need to see a plan with financial projections and estimated break even points as well. Without giving us this information, this project won't go past the contemplation stage and if multiple threads with the same information are posted without any further development, then it will be considered spam. But if you want my opinion, here's the problem that I see. You have many different ideas - all of which will take an enormous amount of effort and hard work to successfully implement. You mention all your goals - "such as a restaurant that will franchise nationally". You also mention that "it will do well because people need to eat". The issue is how are you going to achieve this? You have your ideas, but you do not tell us how or what your strategy is. Creating a national franchise its not a simple task, even restaurants that were backed by Steve Ellis (founder of Chipotle), Bobbly Flay have failed (I'm talking about the reality show America's Next Great Restaurant). What is your secret that makes you so much better than a restaurant that was publicized on national television with successful restaurateurs and chefs backing it? Focus on one idea and work out the logistics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxuPoed0H7ESorry wasnt directed towards you but this franky1 guy who seemed not to be adding anything postive to the convo. We could use more ppl like you and as an investor who has a good eye i agree with no analysis no investment but the idea at first read seems novel and interesting.
