Yes 3.3.1+ is required for firmware 1.2.5+

Yeah I'm sticking to the standard 1.2.5 firmware from Nasser (as per my blog)

Of course you may be able to get it faster with modifying the code, but (unexpectedly?) I'm rather not inclined to try and destroy it Smiley
(even my 2 year old 2x6950's have never be unlocked or had a voltage mod done to them)

The 1.2.5 is a pretty safe bet on not pushing it too hard (but certainly is a good gain over 1.0.0 for any Jalas that are underclocked) and at this point in time, they do still make reasonable BTC so IMO best to try help them keep doing that Smiley

Only 15 of the 16 engines in each chip can be used with the current design so you can't enable engine 0. If you try to enable it, you will be unable to run more than one chip so you'll be limited to ~4.5GH.

Is this a current ASIC or board design limitation?

So it just came to my attention that PCI-e has a JTAG interface built in, just wondering if therefore you can just solder some wires to a PCI-e x1 extender and hook that up....

Not managing to sip from the google firehose that well though, as to whether it's fully functional from the Host PC/OS side, and you can get a programmer to work with it.

(What I'm getting for PCIe JTAG, is a crap load of $$$$ development cards)

It's tempting to find alternatives but the Dragon is so cheap, it's not worth the risk.

Because firmware version 1.2.5 supports XLINK I was thinking of linking my jalapenos together (when I finally get them), but I've seen some pictures without the CPLD and connectors, are they no longer installing them on the jalapenos?

Yah remember these boards were intended to go both in singles and the MR, and they had stock for that, which had to be used up. Therefore you might get jallies with or without the xlink plugs on them, and if they use up all the old stock and get them remade for the jallies there might be other stuff missing.

I would have ordered one to "play with" by now with all this info coming out, but I have a sneaking suspicion that at some point a more cost optimal board might come into production and it won't be quite the same animal as we're seeing delivered now.

Thanks for this. Upgraded my 5.5 Jalapeno to 8.1 GH/s .
Happy camper here.

I used a JTAGICE MKii with avrstudio 6 and the hex file released on the forums.

You can get an extra 0.2 GH/s out of it if you cool it below zero before plugging it in, so it will choose a higher frequency.
Is it ok if I use it to flash the jalapenos ?

ps: My local shop have some ! I know avr dragon is cheap but it take me 75 usd to ship !

This won't work because it does not support the AVR used in the Jalapenos, the cheapest programmer you can find for flashing you Jalapeno really is the AVR Dragon, believe me I've looked for cheaper alternatives, others just don't support it.

That depend on your Jal grade chip to get more Hashrate out of chips.

The latest singles have x-link hardware - not sure about the latest Jalapenos (I got a Single today)

Edit: yes I opened it up as soon as I had tested that it worked ...
so I knew if it didn't work later I was the cause Smiley
