2018 looks like it's going to be a big year for cryptocurrency.

One thing I've always noticed since being in this space is that there always seems to be a theme associated with the best performing coins. In 2016 it was privacy, in 2017 it was governance. What will be the theme for 2018?

DAG tech with coins such as Raiblocks (XRB), IOTA and Byteball
Privacy coins such as Spectrecoin (XSPEC), Monero (XMR) and Zcoin (XZC)
Decentralised Computers such as Elastic (XEL), Golem (GNT) and SONM
The current top 10

Let me know your thoughts guys!

The beginning of a new era.

I think DAG will win the fight in long term, maybe not in 2018.
Why?
--> Scalability, low energy consumption, even smoother and safer operation if used by Billions of ppl.. (nothing at the moment can beat IOTA imo)

I think none of the above. DAG, while very interesting, has been proven to be not safe by pretty creditable people. The Tangle technology on IOTA has an unsolved attack surface that I will not go into now, just look around im pretty sure you can find detailed information on it.

PoS is also not safe.

Unfortunately, PoW remains the most time-tested technology to keep a ledger safe from being modified, so wether we like it or not, Bitcoin is going to continue being the #1 coin (I say unfortunately because I would like to see an actual contender, but just there isn't)

Anonymity will also be improved in Bitcoin. Recently new discoveries have proven to make CT with only 3x weight of transaction (in the past it was measured to be 16x). At this rate we could have fungible BTC in the next few years.

Dag is quite good and can be big in near future but can't tell it will be best performing coin for 2018 or not. I like the concept of byteball and how they have distributed byteball every month.

SONM like decentralized computer project is promising but we might have to wait more than few years to see any of them in action.

I think that DAG will have a bright future. What IOTA did last two weeks was impressive. I think some of DAG based cryptos will replase some of Blockchain based.
