[UPDATE]Batch 2 AVALON STOCK OVERCLOCK to 84 Gh/s @350MHZ[STABLE]

After trying several different methods this is the quickest and most efficient I've found.

*[UPDATE] 350Mhz found to run stable and consistent on STOCK Avalon

1) Download https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16881231/avalon_clone/firmware/openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr703n-v1-squashfs-factory_20130519b.bin

2) Flash this image onto your unit by accessing your unit @192.168.0.100 and going to System -> Backup / Flash Firmware

3) REBOOT UNIT(delete any custom scripts u might have prior)

4) Go to Status -> Cgminer Configuration and under "Chip Frequency" select 350, then SAVE & APPLY these changes

5) Configure your pool difficulty properly(@Slush's pool its 64)

6) HASH LIKE A BTCEAST

My unit is completely stock and never opened. I keep it in a temperature controlled room. This image will make fans run constantly at maximum.

my specs are:

Ebereon has confirmed that electrical consumption @350mhz is 720 Watts


I have my overclocked Avalon at Slush's pool for over 24 hours now. At these speeds I believe 10 rounds is about 8 hours of hashing. Also I've noticed that cooling plays a definite almost immediate factor.

I'm trying this out now and seems good so far, I think ckolivas was able to get 81 gh/s stable but I'm scared to push my avalon and break it

This is a 325Mhz configuration

In order to achieve anything higher youd have to overclock to 350Mhz... and on  a STOCK avalon you risk several complications.

This is the only STABLE STOCK OVERCLOCK.

All others require a PSU upgrade, additional cooling, more thermal paste etc

Which files did you modify? I skimmed over the source a few days ago and looked at the timing/frequencies in a few of the packages. Was it just as simple as adding the option to the menu and having cgminer do the rest with the passed value?

This is the simplest upgrade possible. The image self contains all modifications.

After running this at a properly configured pool I am realizing Bitcoin reward that equals out to a 88Gh/s payout(2.3 BTC in a 24 hr cycle)

My machine never idles, never stalls, no reboot so far. Perfect stable consitant flawless hashing

You want to keep things under 48 for optimum performance.

Over 50 your unit is considered to be overheating.

I don't see why not, but I know batch 1 has a slightly lower rated PSU and less thermal paste, as well as having tighter spaced modules which seems to increase heat concentration.

Seems like batch 2 was made for higher heat levels and better ventilation as well as more power consumption.

If you push it too far in terms of Mhz, you may cause undervolting in other components, which may cause serious hardware failures.

So far i'm seeing a "Utility" higher than 17 with values of 350 Mhz. Anything higher than that brings up hardware errors and lowers utility.

Yesterday I tried making the change of the PSU (batch 1) for a Corsair TX850W and working properly. Then, I flash the Avalon with the indicated binary from here and I have it running at 325 Mhz, the only detail is that the fans are always at 100% but it's a minor detail, I prefer more noise to have problems in the chips.

One question: as some pictures I've seen, BitSyncom used thermal paste applied directly but does not make good contact between the surface of the board to the heatsink surface.

It will work better if you install a thermal pad (0.3 mm thick)?

Unless you are depending on ur stock fans to achieve this(you would blowout your stock PSU)
This modification provides stable power consumption from your stock equipment.

Ideally youd want to cool the room to 65F or liquid cool the unit

I temperature control the room to 70F to comfortably get a healthy 77Gh/s at the box. As mentioned before a good properly configured pool(https://mining.bitcoin.cz/) will increase your earnings in way that resembles hashing @88Gh/s

but this thread was initially about overclocking a STOCK Avalon to 325Mhz

350Mhz is not something I would do to a stock Avalon without direct liquid cooling

Ive been running all day on 345 no problems...... apart from bliwing the power in ky house but that was due to way to many things runni g at once..... women
