UPDATE #1: Five free protoypes: /index.php?topic=244975.msg2735841#msg2735841

(I couldn't think of a better title)

So I found myself with some time today and made this, more pictures are top view, closeup of the 'waffle' and the laser in action! The next version won't have the waffle-lines in the QR code, this was caused by my-bad. '128pbb' is the firstbits for the address. It's also NFC readable (secret details, more to come  Wink)

Anyone have thoughts/comments/feedback? If there's any interest I can make a bunch for people.

(I thought i should mention, for those unfamiliar with the scrap paper shown for scale, it's approx 55mm x 85mm)

That's wicked cool  Grin

You should get some anodized aluminum dog tags and etch the code into those! I get mine from laserbits, they're pretty cheap and mark real well.

So you got a RFID chip in there?

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

The headline got me excited there for a moment. I thought it was about a token that shoots laser beams.

For certain values of 'in'! I'm working on some that have a blank 'backplate' pressure glued over the NFC tag, both for protection and appearance.

Also an image of the raw token

I thought it was about a token that shoots laser beams.

Maybe version 2.0  Cheesy

I like the idea. But how do you plan to use NFC? For the private key?

The NFC tag has a public address encoded into a 'bitcoin:' URI. Someone with a Bitcoin client can zap it and their client will open to the 'Send Coins' page.

This way they can send a payment without having to scan the QR - it's way faster.

Thanks for explaining.
So as I understand the wood wallet is "receive only" without ever seeing a private key.

BTW whats the (minimal) thickness of the wood to laser?

That's correct. I'm working on another version that may require some assembly by the end user, but will contain a private key inside known only to them.

The NFC tag is rewritable so someone could put their private key onto it but I wouldn't recommend it.

The wood shown is 1/8", it's possible to go thinner but the QR is a pretty fragile structure as it is. Some metal could work but I like the analog finish Smiley
