Primecoin has found a new record 2CC of length 13 (block 375981). Ironically, it has exactly as many digits as the previous record (block 159217). I have updated the table to reflect the progress of the coins.

I updated the Cunningham chain record list yesterday:

http://users.cybercity.dk/~dsl522332/math/Cunningham_Chain_records.htm

Congrats for the first Cunningham chain of length 13 with more than 100 digits!

CDN (Canadian Digital Notes) has nothing to do with prime numbers.

See http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/digitalisassets.html

It has been around for years, since back when GRoUPcoin and DeVCoin were new.

In this context, CDN refers to CDNcoin. An official currency symbol is not the only thing that coin is missing.

Now _this_ is a coin that actually _does_ something!

Out of the thousands of coins that have come since, I doubt any have had an equal impact on the world of scientific research. Of course, 999 of those devs were just looking to get rich by lying to the unsuspecting. Now we know better.

I just can't believe nobody was inspired by the fact that somebody once made a coin that was useful to society. They probably were, just not this year.

Anyone know how to find out if there have been any new prime number found lately?  Is there a way to check from the wallet?

You can use listtopprimes to find the top primes for each form which were found by Primecoin, e.g "listtopprimes 14 1CC" to get the largest Cunningham chains of first kind of length 14 (abbreviated as CC14f).

As I've just seen today, Primecoin broke the record for CC14f just two weeks ago. This is the first world record for Primecoin since more than 2 years.

2017-01-25: CC14f with 96 digits: 814204479584287721291003734102406590210007590854164398588152723240001514789312*47#-1

Update of my Cunningham chain record list will follow shortly.

Regards,
Dirk

Did this coin die? Why? I feel like it's a hidden gem if someone decides to market it especially in mathematics departments around the world.

How often does XPM find a new prime number? Does it get longer to find each new prime number?

This time it's different.

How often does XPM find a new prime number? Does it get longer to find each new prime number?

A new prime chain is found with each block (~1minute). Within a prime chain, each number is prime and is larger than the one before. Currently we're looking for chains with at least 10 consecutive primes. The first prime in the chain is guaranteed to be at least 256bits long - but could actually be much much bigger depending on the primorial and multiplier chosen. Miners don't tend to look for larger primes as the maths involved takes longer - hence mining is slower.

This is a very intellectually challenging coin to write a good miner for - there are several conflicting aspects that directly influence mining speed and pretty much every design decision becomes a trade off Smiley
For example:
1. Mining with a large primorial increases the base prime probability at the cost of fundamentally larger numbers that are slower to verify and work with.
2. Mining with lots of primes increases the sieve accuracy and reduces the number of false positives that then get passed through to chain length determination, but using too many primes above a certain threshold removes so few candidates that its actually faster to deal with false positives!

This is one of the coolest coins out there yet no one really seems to be leading it's marketing anymore.  Is it still active?  It still trades so I wonder if anyone is mining it, and where are the best optimized miners for it?  Seems like some graduate school professor could take this thing over and make it last decades.
