I have not seen that though, i think it is just for a split second, could be a glitch on coinbase or something, but if that is the case if that huge leap actually happens it will surely be followed up with a huge dip. It is just to correct the price. A lot of people are selling now at 16K hence price dropped back somewhere between 14K to 15K.

This morning made me lol.  I put in sell orders in at 17k, 18k, and right above 19k (19,027) on coinbase.  It was pretty hard to get orders in since their site was crashing.  Knew it wouldn't sustain itself for more than a couple minutes.  Or, I could be the stupid one by missing a major piece of news that hasn't hit?

BTC purchases/sales are currently suspended on Coinbase at the moment... we'll see if they actually honor the orders and transfer the $$ to my bank account...

I think the market conditions like this have often happened, raising the price to generate selling interest then when the price has gone down the big players bought up in the bottom price.
But many small traders are good at reading this condition because this condition has happened so often, so the price will keep going up. I think this is to shake up the price of altcoin, because every bitcoin price rises, altcoin prices definitely fall down.

They have the habit of pulling the plug exactly when a correction is about to happen. And miraculously they manage to amplify it and screw everybody that was trading at the moment. At least they are not bankrupting shorter like bitfinex did the last time.

I was watching as it was happening. Times like that I wish I held my coins on the exchange so I could sell them high and buy when they are low. I don't have a ton of bitcoin but I have enough where I could have earned a nice little chunk of change and re-invest to get a little more bitcoin. I know it isnt good to keep your bitcoin on the exchange but darn it this time it would have been nice to have them there. By the time it would have taken me to transfer from my Ledger to GDAX and have it confirmed it would have already dumped back down.

Actually thinking of throwing them onto the exchange now in case it happens again. (I doubt it will though and if it did spike back up to 19k knowing my luck I would sell it to make some profit and it wouldnt go back down it would keep going up) I'll most likely keep it in my ledger.

Bitcoin is traded like an alter coin today. I can't remember the last time it had such a massive swing. Some analyst like Ronnie Moas is still calling space to grow. Never than ever, I am eager to see a correction of Bitcoin as certainly don't the whole thing to explode massively. The people buying now are not in the understanding of the technology or the vision, they are in it to be rich very soon. When the time comes, price might correct very fast but it may not be a bad thing for the long term.

I think its has something to do with Coinbase having huge volume obviously, but I'm seeing the price at marketcap just above $16K now. The demand coming for Asia and the United States are really pushing the price to new heights. Its really unstoppable as you guys put it. We haven't yet seen the first bitcoin future contracts but the price is going up very quickly. So we may expect the price to go up leading to Dec 10 when CBOE will have its first trading. Its gonna be historic.

I am pretty sure that was a malfunction because it went up around 50% which didnt really happen. Which is likely way they went offline, and had to do "maintenance". Everyone has their own game mind and speculations, the sudden increase in price is beyond everyone's imagination. Bitcoin market is just pumping continuously and one cannot tell when it may crash or dump to 10k USD. So, it is totally fair if someone withdraws before the peak point as Bitcoin is highly volatile and it will definitely not give its holders another chance to sell out when it starts crashing.

The price of bitcoin rising is also congesting the network which means slower transaction and higher fees, defeating the real purpose of bitcoin. This is somewhat very alarming because of the usual market crash / bubble burst predictions from the doomsayers but they are not always correct, and/or are spreading FUD so that they can buy low, sell high. No one can really foresee the future of bitcoin's price, technical analysis won't work in this very volatile market. I never saw that price in any of the websites that I was continually checking. In coindesk the maximum that came to be worth was around $17,150 and coinmarketcap the maximum mark was $18,328.

I am not sure that Conibase is the maximum reference for those of us who need to observe the behavior of the bitcoin price, but seeing this extreme price differential, I do not think it is a reliable source.

What's with the danger?are you thinking and starting to believe those bubble folks that are talking about bitcoin is like this one and it's about to pop? or you are worried about the great crash / correction that's about to come? Don't be too focus with the danger of bitcoin, be positive if the price of bitcoin is increasing this high and if it's corrected then just take time to buy.

I just think it was too high of a jump. It's not healthy for any stock or asset to jump in value as quick as it did today.

It's starting to get down now so it should be the finest time to jump in to bitcoin now. I know that many are still doubting and skeptic about bitcoin because of it's intrinsic value but we just can't help it, value is actually in our faces now and there's no need for us to move backward with it. If you are one of those people that started investing to bitcoin while the price isn't high, then that's an achievement.

I think that 50k $ is rather far at present. Probably it could be up to 30k $ per 1 BTC the next year. I suppose that BTC price will not so volatile in 2018
