"So Many AltCoins, - let's make another one"

What's wrong with another one? Specifically self growing Open Source Project?

BTW they are All Awesome to me and this poll is posted by the inspiration
of reading pixel's "How do you create an altcoin?
I highly recommend everyone to read!  Smiley

You mean, create something that doesn't use SHA256 or Scrypt? I'm pretty sure all coins are using either of the two. I guess you could invent something new that would be CPU based only. But on a given timeline, technology will be created to mine faster and/or use less electricity. And there would have to be a good reason to switch over. What benefits will this new coin have over something like Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is fairly solid.

"More people familiar with varying the code and variants of the code is good, as it seems like there will regularly be need to update all the many altcoins so the more people capable of doing so maybe the more likely it is to happen.

Two that really need updating badly are Tenebrix and GeistGeld, they might even be old enough that they might crap out on file size of the blockchain on 32 bit Windows systems maybe or something silly like that.

They are interestingly different from each other too since Tenebrix is scrypt without merged mining whereas GeistGeld is SHA256 with merged mining. So bringing both of those up to date would be a really great learning-project for someone and meanwhile of course both are also so ridiculously low difficulty you could be mining them both all along with CPUs and rake in tons of both while you learn. Unlike starting a new coin you don't tend to get jumped on by all the big miners with these old coins, so you can go months on end peacefully mining them with CPUs.

Compare that with the way difficulty skyrockets on new coins lately and you'll see those new coins won't likely be useful for spreading the coins around newbies for maybe months or years, whereas these old coins have been serving newbies well for what, a year or more now and still nice low difficulty...

I'd make a joke we should call it "CloneCoin" or something obvious, but the name "Yet Another Coin" is already used, so making a new coin ironically isn't even original.

Sure, but topic is not about BTCCoin here.

Imagine people in undeveloped countries? They will never be able to mine BitCoin.
What they do have is some older machines still capable to mine, so they could get some taste of Freedom.
Also, I really like a few ideas of others to create coin where with older machine solo mining is promoted and new people get some incentive just as they start to mine.

yes., people here consider it a success merely based on its price vs USD.

however as an actual useable currency its a fail.

hell even look at its homepage the benefits listed simply are not true.

Mining isn't the point of bitcoin. Most people who use the dollar will never get to print their own dollars either. That's not exactly a flaw.

How about, instead of having a coin that has the block reward halve over time or go down when difficulty goes up, we had a coin where the block reward increased over time? Then everyone can mine profitably! /s

I like this idea too, and I think it was the original vision for Bitcoin. By the time it became clear that GPU mining would dominate, it was already too late to do anything about it. ASICs just make a bad situation worse.

Universal mining on CPU would have seen a much wider spread and adoption of Bitcoin during the press frenzy - the lack of GPU resistivity was a major flaw that has hindered Bitcoin. Tenebrix->Fairbrix->Litecoin sought to address this, but they have all failed in this objective where GPU miners dominate.

I'm currently creating an altcoin with universal CPU mining ability. Send me a private message if you'd like to be in the beta.

That really sounds hilarious Smiley I bet these people in undeveloped countries aren't sad because they don't have the hardware to mine BTC, I think they are sad because their life is hard and their peers are savages  Cheesy Aint no coin gonna to change that neither

Yes, look at Alternate cryptocurrencies forum.
Everyday some new-coins have been made.
If all of these creators could get together would be great to have Universal One!

How about 'Global Miner's UNION'
