If you guys want this coin to survive then you're going to have to actually mine it. There are currently extra mining incentives in the high difficulty periods in the way of extra fees. A few days of putting up with this will see us to block 62400 and the difficulty swing will be nowhere near as severe as it is now.
It's time to step up if you want to save this coin.

Thats not an easy ask when we have idiots like bitcoinexpress mining the difficulty into oblivion

The only thing I can do is bring the hard fork forward as even block 62,400 is looking like an impossibility right now as the entire network has abandoned it due to the efforts of BitcoinEXpress. I'll look into where we're at tomorrow and potentially release another client but whatever I do it's going to need the miners to step up otherwise we may as well just declare it dead right now.

What's the changelog for this version? Is there any security breach or something near that? Mandatory Update is really hard word.

as soon as i've finished coding it, there will be a bot announcing every block which has extra rewards as an incentive for miners. once ive coded it, im going to raise the fee to 6% so that i can make the switch to proportional payout and then change the fee to 0% aswell as 100GME block finder bonus. I wont do it yet so i can give u guys some time to reply with your thoughts

according to the coin-specification the retargeting-frame should be 48 blocks.
But. it seems something goes wrong...
Or why isn't the retargeting-mechanism working correct ?
Or does it ?

What's the changelog for this version? Is there any security breach or something near that? It's quoted at the post I announced it along with the reasons for it being necessary: GameCoin v0.8.2.1 released: Fix an issue with the difficulty retarget where it is using only the last 48 blocks to determine where the next difficulty should be. The previous system can lead to difficulty swings of the maximum variance in the event a miner puts a lot of hash power onboard only in the times when the difficulty is low.
As from block 62400 the difficulty algorithm will work out the block time average from the last 12 retarget intervals (576 blocks). This should be the equivalent of 24 hours worth of blocks when the network is running efficiently. All download links in the first post have been updated with the new client. Please update your client as soon as possible. Mandatory Update is really hard word. It's mandatory because the changes will cause a hard fork at block 62,400. Cryptsy and all 3 pools have already updated so if you don't update you will be on the wrong side of that hard fork. according to the coin-specification the retargeting-frame should be 48 blocks.
But. it seems something goes wrong...
Or why isn't the retargeting-mechanism working correct ?
Or does it ? It retargets every 48 blocks as per the specification however that doesn't help when people put excessive amounts of hashing power on it when the difficulty goes down and then pull it off again the instant it goes up. This is due to the average block time being calculated entirely off the last 48 blocks and this is what this hard fork seeks to fix. By looking a factor of 12 retargets into the history the average block time will not be skewed by such a small amount of data when calculating where the new difficulty should lie.

Fantastic work, everyone! I was blown away when i noticed our little coin has blown up on cryptsy.
The good news is, this tells me that our little birdie definitely has some wings, which means I'll be focusing more of my personal time to porjects related to GameCoin, and making it simple and easy for developers and content providers to start using it as money.
That beingt said, if anyone has a game/game related business and you'd like to start accepting GameCoin as payment and need a little help, give me a shout.
And as for the coin being mined into oblivion... every system has rogue elements, and you can't always blame them for taking advantage of a situation. However, excessively preying on a coin's weakness in this manner seeks to alert the developers quite quickly of a weakness in their difficulty algorithm. Now we know, and now we can fix it.
There is something to be learned from every experience, and the coin will come out stronger for it, provided we keep learning as we grow.

Great to see you back! We really have a nice Dev-team now Thanks! I've been bogged down to all hell with my day-job and other personal projects, but I'm so glad to see our little community is alive and kicking, and (for the most part) working together so well. I'm really excited to see where things are going to go from here.

The advantage of high difficulty is, that not a lot of newly coins can flood the market...
Only the already existing coin can be traded.
Therefore this situation keeps the price up ...
