  • To begin with, user OgNasty, a DT1 member is falsely giving negative trust to users like aTriz, owlcatz etc when they tried to oppose him with a trade where users thought the price was too much and asked whether or not OgNasty lied that he had engraved the collectible or not. The situation would have dissolved quickly but then things started getting heated and worse. We are seeing the outcome of it. Og,not cool ,what you're doing.
  • People are scamming everywhere.
  • Theymos isn't doing anything about the tons and tons of issues.
  • Mods are polluted with work stress.
  • People are coming up with various ways to avoid their ban and scam people.
  • This forum has become a place for users having 100s of accounts and abusing campaigns and the lending section.
  • Wannabes abusing the off-topic and politics board to increase their activity.
  • Number of DT members are reducing too.
Those things on the OP actually reflects the internet itself. I mean, it's not just happening on this forum but also all over the internet.

Here's the thing, the forum is not perfect and there's nothing we can do about it. Even if there was, it just needs a lot more effort than you've expected.
Just focus on the new forum and hope the migration goes well.

There's hardly anything done here about known scammers. I know it's not perfect, but at least we couls ban recognised scammers (and there are several in circulation, just have a look in the "digital goods" subsection).
Is bitcointalk full of scammers because Internet is full of scammers, or is Internet full of scammers because some forums like bitcointalk gives them full tools to practise their robbery without repression?

This issue is always the problem few years ago. Spammings are everywhere because many people has this mindset that they can earn extra income just by posting and spamming around the forum.
Theymos is doing something to make this forum a better place. I hope the implementation of the new forum will go smoothly.
About scammer I suggest that having a posting fee is recomended by doing so, it will decrease the possiblity of a project or an ICO to scam people.
This will never be a perfect place, but it can be a better place for everyone who uses Crypto and a good place to learn.

I agree. This forum is wrongly used by quite a lot of users. Maybe the admin team can consider tackling this problem in 2018.

I agree. This forum is wrongly used by quite a lot of users. Maybe the admin team can consider tackling this problem in 2018.

There have been countless proposals by staff on how to deal with the spam with some suggestions that will almost eradicate it. Things like punishing the operators of signature campaigns who run them lazily (or not at all most of the time) can easily be implemented and is pretty much just common sense.  If you run a bad campaign with a lot of shitposters then your account is banned and your threads trashed and your signatures removed/blacklisted and you are no longer allowed to advertise here in such a way. It's not exactly rocket science. Removing signatures from ranks/activity would also curb the amount of spam and shitposting drastically as well as account farming but theymos doesn't seem willing to even try this. What actually happens to try curb low quality content is down to theymos now but staff have pretty much done all they can and it's in his hands to decide what to do next.

Personally I have noticed many new accounts that are posting some relevant thing to theards but nothing spetacular simply just to post and if you take closer look their activity is almost indentical with their posts. I get it people are here for money but it is not nice to abuse the system since this forum has provided me a lot of information before I even thought on joining here myself.

You can't get rid of scammers here, nor you can get rid of them anywhere. Money is driving force of human behaviour and many don't even care as long as they are getting money it's even easier through the internet when you are not talking face to face to other person. This can be minimized but this doesn't guarantee that there will be none.

I agree with off-topic and politics since many people ask some relevant questions just to get something to write, maybe until they reach some status such as jr memeber or higher to enroll for campaigns.

What does DT stands for, sorry but my knowledge don't seems that good.

Roll Eyes There are a lot of things that could be done. Stop posting bullshit.

One thing that could potentionally cut off many people from spamming and doing these account farming, whcih I have recently found, would be to implement that in order to post you have to link your account on this forum with your phone number. For this some telegram bot could be made so you don't have to pay a lot in terms of message fees. Although this doesn't guarantee that there won't be any spammers. Of course there will and could be since you can buy temp mobile numbers but I think that not many will do so and simply by implementing this you will get lower amount of people who will want to spam here.

I was thinking about maybe suggesting making boards like Off Topic and Politics only available to higher ranks. I don't see any good reason why Newbies should be allowed to post in there. This is a bitcoin forum, but newbies only post in those boards because they don't know about anything else so they use it to quickly shitpost to rank up in. Some of the threads that are getting posted in there is ridiculous. Just a sample of the ones I've trashed from today alone (and all these were the user's very first post):

where are u first have sex?

i'm pretty curious about this  Grin

Do you like smoking?

why do you enjoy with cigarettes?
To me i really hate smoke, so i can't smoke cigarettes.

which singer best live in USUK?

My guess is that there are only Bruno Mars. Anyone else guys?

what do you think of a human being becoming immortal?

the first thing i think of is the population explosion.

what perfume is the most popular?

i'm in need of a perfume, good price. can anyone tell me one?

Why the hell would they sign up to this forum just to ask those questions? I'll tell you why: Account farming. They'll shitpost themselves all the way up to whatever rank will accept them on a signature campaign then shitpost even more over multiple accounts.

What does DT stands for, sorry but my knowledge don't seems that good.

Default trust. Default trust is the network or trusted users here on bitcointalk.

This isn't going to happen. It would only slow farmers down and put off genuine users. People would find ways around it as well, not to mention there would be services that pop up offering verifications for a price. There's easier and much more effective ways to combat farming than this.

I like the idea of making politics and offtopic only avaiable for higher ranks. This would force shitposters to write relevant posts. There are boards like minig with very active mods who would instantly delete shitposts.

I once was participating in a forum who also provided free webspace for active posters. They obviously also had problems with users spamming the forum so they introduced a spam score (shown below the user avatar similar to the trust score in this forum.) This score showed the percentage of spam posts created by an user. And if it was above a certain value their webspace got locked. I think this would not be that hard to implement here too :0

How does that work? Does it require someone to manually review every post and decide if it is spam or is it some automated system? If it is manual I think the volume of posting on this forum would probably make it impractical to implement.

Oh really? I am registered since 2012, I think I had enough time to rank up if I wanted to, lol.
I am also not participating in any signature campaign. The link in my signature is a refferal link though.
inb4 offtopic...
Sure,of course.. Roll Eyes
I do not get why de the* newbie jail got removed anyway? It was a good concept to keep the shit out of the main board, and prevented peopple people* from making a shitload of alt accounts.
There were a lot of issues for it,probably. More workload and the like.
How long have people been complaining? For several years.
How many concrete changes has theymos enacted in order to combat any of these problems? None1.
How many real (genuine) users have abandoned or been forced to abandon ship because of this? Numerous.

[1] Actually things that work.
Note: I agree with every single point that OP has listed, and there's probably more. The reason for which I refuse to tackle other people's posts is because we've already discussed all of this ad nauseum".
Feel free to add more points.
How many real (genuine) users have abandoned or been forced to abandon ship because of this? Numerous.
Why won't they? The reason why a lot of people come to this forum is because signature campaigns not to learn about bitcoin. Not even a handful people are here for a good cause. The people who left might have got sick of the loners and shitposters, which is also wasting their time while they have better things to do.
Maybe, like Radioactivetechguy suggests it could be beneficial to alter the newbie jail to better comment the issues stated above. But, then again there's only so many limitations you can put on a user and if their goal is to make money through signature campaigns then they'll just grind it out.
I think the mods have numerous ideas to implement it,they need the authority. Decentralization of authority would be one of the very best things to do for the betterment of the forum but not the laissez-faire type because the forum will end in ruins just left over.
Those things on the OP actually reflects the internet itself. I mean, it's not just happening on this forum but also all over the internet.

Obviously a lot of effort is required but its not impossible to tackle the problems that one faces. With determination and quick wit anything is possible, for I believe in such. Why only hope? Why not have faith? theymos is working hard on it,right. The internet faces the same shit,so do we,we are also a part of the internet ,but when will we learn?
There's hardly anything done here about known scammers. I know it's not perfect, but at least we csld could* ban recognised scammers (and there are several in circulation, just have a look in the "digital goods" subsection).
Is bitcointalk full of scammers because Internet is full of scammers, or is Internet full of scammers because some forums like bitcointalk gives them full tools to practise their robbery without repression?
theymos is not willing to ban scammers but spammers. The scammers are let to roam freely even after numerous amount of scams and they can create alt accounts to scam yet again, the saddest thing ever. They belong to the list of assholes which includes unpunished rapists, pedophiles, burglars and the like.
This issue is has* always been* the problem since*few years ago. Spammings spammers* are everywhere because many people has have this mindset that they can earn extra income just by posting and spamming around the forum.

This is pure spam. Irony at its best. If you have anything of a good cause which would really be helpful, please spread it out. What you have said is only a repetition of what others have been saying since then.
Roll Eyes There are a lot of things that could be done. Stop posting bullshit.
Good luck to that ever happening.
I agree. This forum is wrongly used by quite a lot of users. Maybe the admin team can consider tackling this problem in 2018.
Maybe you can stop with the classic one line shit posts. Angry

But I guess theymos isn't willing to answer that,is he? He's quite busy with his work, spamming would be his least concern,no? One can only hope for the betterment of this forum.I pity the mods for the amount of hard work they put in return for almost nothing.

Phone number for a forum which is now only comprised of spam, wouldn't be worth it. But again you have SIGNATURE CAMPAIGNS,so something against it will be come up with soon.
There should be a limit for people to post in politics section,no? It'll help to curb down shit posting?
-snip-
The questions are ridiculously ridiculous, although the idea for restricting the users to post in off-topic and politics subsection seems to be good, wish for it to get implemented.
