Every good coin starts as an ICO.  There are several websites that offer coin review like icorating, icobench,  etc.  From there you can spot if the coin has a potential. For the existing ones.  Coinmarketcap is the best way to find the coin with a rising volume and cheap price.  Cardano and Doge is an example.

As a newbie, I have little experience in choosing a promising altcoin and there must be some important thing that I don't know now in the process of choosing a altcoin. I want to stand on the shoulders of giants and I hope you can teach me something. Thank you.

You have to learn yourself , you have to be responsible for your own money .Every one has his own way of investing , so will you .
Check the ANN board  every day , you will find some good projects to follow.

If you want to pick some altcoins for long term or short term investment first you need to go to the website of coinmarketcap then you can see the cryptocurrencies are listed based on their ranks so you can choose one of them with the price you can afford. For a short term investment choose a coin with high volatile in price so you can make quick money out of it.But for a long term investment you need to pick the coins with steady price over the history and pick popular altcoins like ETH,LTC,XMR,DASH and XRP to reduce the risk of losing your investment because peoples predicting that these coins have good potential growth in future.

To make the best choice on an altcoin you must see his history, if the dev team is active or not, circulating supply, technology used and competitors. You will see if the coin is undervalued or not then you take a decision.
You will find many coins in different field with these caracteristics, so you just have to choose one or two from fields which will explode such as security utility, new blockchain generation and anonymousity.
For security utility i see QSP or Blue, on the new blockchain maybe Aion and for an anon coin i should go for XSPEC.
Make your own research and do what you think better for you.

You can find a good alternate coin if the platform they are offering is good and the value of the token is high. Some tokens start at a very low price and they wait for months before they sell their coins or tokens. Take a look if their website and social media pages are active.

There are 2 ways:
1- You choose an altcoin from top 30, they are all good projects and it's safer to invest in them.
2- You do a deep search (wp, roadmap, team, supply, ..) and choose a new altcoin with high potential which can give you a higher profit.

You can find out many detailed articles which guided how to choose good Altcoins or ICOs in this forum. I can summarize: To find out good altcoin before you have to analysis its project, look for all information about project like: team, product, roadmap, price...
- Development Team of project have to include people who experienced in the field.
- Roadmap is distinct
- If project had product which was accepted by society then it's good project

There are few things you have to look at when choosing promising or good altcoin or ICO to invest into;
1. Team with enough experience and skills to build what they are promising
2. Some prototype of beta platform so that investors can have a look at test version before investing.
3. Low soft cap and hard cap so that only few investors can invest during ICO
4. Very low % saved for developer team and not big bonuses given during ICO or Pre-ICO.

If you're referring trading altcoins, this is what I can suggest before you trade. First check always the volume if it's high then probably there's a chance of massive price hike. Do your own research check every details, information and whitepaper as well. Suscribe to it's website and be update for every news  of company and team. Always check the background and partnerships, possible merchants and so on. Stay tune to their telegrams, social media accounts, blogs and most important their website. "INVEST WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOSE". A little bit risky though.

If you are referring to price of the coin that can pump like crazy despite being dumped quickly in next few months than its hard to give you any suggestions but if you are looking for coins that have lots of potential and can have long/stable price growth + development than invest in coins with active developer team and coins that provide real life solutions.

he easiest thing is to choose the top 10 coins in the coinmarket even whichever market you like and keep watching the movement.
if it is mature and want to invest choose a stable long-term coin instead of relying on pump one night.

In this forum a lot of info you ask, and it takes a long time to understand it. Leave some time for you to learn in this forum and do research on coin prices, for example at https://coinmarketcap.com/ the price list of cryptocurrency is all there.
So there is no late word to learn, only our self can control it. And not the instant in this world, to get a satisfactory result we must try as hard as possible. Because in my experience, if you are going to invest in a crypto world at least you should understand about cryptocurrency. And if you want to earn income in this forum you should also understand about cryptocurrency.
So good luck bro you can try it.

I found one ICO very interesting. Instead of mining you can get some ICO's by promoting them on social media, adding artists, venues,...

If you want to increase your start budget by using social media than you can check out @Viberate where you can get some tokens on daily bases for participating in promotional activities.
Check out also their road map and predict some changes in price related to updates.

They give away 5000VIB's daily and reward looks like this (depends on participation volume):

Dear XY!
Thank you for playing a part in the music revolution.
Below we're sending you a breakdown of your recent community participation activities on our platform.
Total amount awarded: 174.9220 VIB

You can read more about participation on link bellow:

0.00002791 BTC (-4.01%)

buy coins with top three ranks
then hold it until one wins ...
then sell with 20% profit maybe Smiley

First, you need to decide what kind of trader you want to be, you want to invest longterm or not?
use coinmarketcap to check tendencies but read and read a lot, get information about the project behind each coin and who is involved and potential investors, that could help doing some choices  Wink
