The Plan:
Let’s face it, at this point we don’t know who out of the vaporware vendors will deliver on time, or if they will ever deliver at all. Investing in only one manufacturer’s hardware could leave you sitting on the sidelines and missing out on huge profits (see early BFL customers vs. early Avalon customers). I am spearheading a different type of group buy for the purpose of diversifying invested funds for the purpose of mining Bitcoins. By buying mining hardware from multiple manufacturers, I aim to reduce the variance and risks associated with buying vaporware.

Not only am I making the best effort to diversify they group’s investment funds, but I have chosen the cheapest products ($ per Gh) from three manufacturers that I think are not scams. All three companies have similar shipping projections (September/October/November.) Also, all products to be ordered are built on small process nodes, ensuring that we will have an energy efficient mining operation, leaving us profitable even after Avalon 1st gen chips become unprofitable (and others built on larger process nodes.)

With that said, I am suggesting we invest in the following products from the following manufacturers:
- Bitfury 400 Gh Kit (October Delivery) - $8000 usd +shipping
- KNC Miner Jupiter 400Gh (September Delivery) - $7000 usd +shipping
- VMC Fast Hash One (Two 256 Gh One Modules) (October/November Delivery) - $7998 usd +shipping

UPDATE: Added by investor vote:
- HashFast Baby Jet 400 Gh (Late October Delivery) - $5,600 +shipping

Terms:
1 BTC invested = 1/X portion of profits from all mining machines combined
(X being the total amount invested on all equipment)

Products will be bought in the order they are listed. (As soon as $8000 is raised, a Bitfury 400 Gh will be bought. After that, as soon as $7000 is raised, a KNC Miner Jupiter 400 Gh will be ordered. After that, as soon as $7998 is raised, a VMC Fast Hash One will be ordered... Etc.. ) Machines will be ordered using this process until there is no more interest from investors. I will order as much equipment the group can afford, or order until I do not have anymore hosting space available, whichever comes first.

I reserve the right to change which products and/or manufacturers we order from in this group buy. I will use my best judgment to pursue the products that are in each investor’s best interest. The mining hardware world is ever changing, perhaps there may be a better deal tomorrow or next week that would suit each investor’s pocketbook better. The group will be notified if I'm contemplating changing/adding a product ordered to gather feedback.

If at anytime it is more profitable to mine ALT coins than Bitcoins, I reserve the right to direct our farm towards and ALT coin of my choosing. If at anytime a decent profit can be made by simply selling the hardware via eBay or auctioning on this forum etc, then I reserve the right to do so. Again, I will not do either of these without first consulting the group.

Electricity costs will be subtracted from each month’s dividend payments using the latest Mt. Gox average for cost calculation. The equipment will be hosted in my home where I have hosted a large Bitcoin/Litecoin farm for about a year now. After electricity costs are taken out, I will take out a 3% hosting fee, and then proceed to pay dividends to investors.

The equipment will be hosted on Eligius, allowing for complete transparency (many real time graphs and data for everyone to see), and also added benefit of a 0% pool fee from Eligius.

I am not responsible for hardware manufacturer non delivery under any circumstances. In the event that one manufacturer does not deliver, I will do my best to make sure that each investor’s funds are returned. Obviously this requires some cooperation from the manufacturer, but know that I will go to all lengths necessary to get our money back in the event of non-delivery, (including but not limited) to filing a lawsuit. Although I will make every effort to provide a safe and appropriate hosting environment, I cannot be held liable for hardware failure and theft of property (including computer security intrusions). Again, I will make every effort possible in these regards.

Share transfers will be allowed at any time, you may sell your shares to anyone you'd like via the forums or any way you'd like. As we've done with our previous group buy, selling shares in the auction sub forum has been probably the best way to do that. I monitor the Auction sub forums occasionally and will pop in and confirm you have the shares to sell. Share transfers will have a cut off date on the 27th day of each month. Whoever owns the stock on that day will receive the whole dividend for that month. Dividends will be payed at the end of each month.

I will keep extensive records of all transactions, share ownership, and share transfers in Excel format. These will be available at all times to all group buy participants after the funds have been collected and equipment ordered. I have worked hard to keep extensive records and maintain proper transparency with my first group buy and I will do the same with this one!

The group buy will have its own forums like my first, where I will provide news and updates and we can discuss all details as a group. I run my group buy like a democracy, I ask the group their opinion on almost every decision I make about the the group buy and our hardware. I tend to settle with the majority, but will in the rare case veto something if deemed extremely necessary.

This is a risky investment, I make no promise or guarantee of any profits. I only promise to offer an honest hosting service, anything that is out of my control cannot be blamed on me. (IE. manufacturer delays, etc.)

About Me:
I conducted one of the first (if not THE first) group buys for ASIC hardware on these forums when we ordered seven Batch 3 Avalons. I just received tracking information for my previous group buy, and I would say everyone is generally happy with my service and can attest to my trustworthiness. I have received the 7 Avalons ordered from this group buy and they are currently hashing here: http://eligius.st/~wizkid057/newstats/userstats.php/1QHZohmAdip28TM7U6KsyRXUrbvRvadtZB

Here are some pictures of farms I currently run/have ran in the past:

Apart from my previous group buy, I have also done over $20,000 worth of transactions on these forums without any problems at all. I have both bought and sold products and services numerous times on these forums and am as trustworthy as they come.

How To Invest:
*Only send in funds with an address that you can control. You must be able to sign transactions with this address so that you can prove you are the true sender of these Bitcoins in case there are any issues*

MINIMUM INVESTMENT IS 5 BTC- any amount received lower than 5 BTC will be sent back to the sender.
NOTE: Shareholders of my first group buy can buy in for a minimum of 1 BTC.

Please send your investment to: -redacted-
No longer accepting investments.

Please reply to this thread with how much BTC you sent AND the transaction ID!

Thank you for your time,

Ch
Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Updates:
- 8/24 - I'm just giving fair warning, I will likely end this group buy in less than two weeks- possibly as soon as a week. We are nearing hosting capacity. I reserve the right to end this offer at anytime and refund any funds that were not used in purchases. I am sorry for those of you who want to invest and get left out. There's only so much hardware I can host. Thank you for understanding. Make sure to send with an address you can receive with!
- 8/17 - There were only about 150 HashFast Baby Jet's left on their website, so I went ahead and picked one up a day early. I doubt the poll's decision changes, and I wanted to make sure they didn't run out.
- 8/16 - Deposits are back open- only about $800 usd worth of Bitcoin for the next group order of 2 HashFast Baby Jets.
- 8/16 - I will be ordering a HashFast Baby Jet for the group on Sunday if poll on our forums for them is still in favore of ordering one. If you haven't voted yet and care either way, please go vote: http://www.yourcoins.org/forums/threads/should-we-order-hashfast-products.58/
- 8/15 - Deposits are placed on hold until further notice. I would like to figure out which of the new hardware companies we will invest in (if any), before collecting anymore funds. Thanks.
- 8/10 - Ordering new hardware has been temporarily placed on hold. I am expecting a couple announcements soon from Cointerra and xCrowd- possibly Avalon, which will greatly change the available options. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=268280.msg2907232#msg2907232
- 8/10 - Please register for our forums. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=268280.msg2903446#msg2903446
- 8/7 - Another October Bitfury 400 Gh ordered, also an explanation of the transactions having to do with our VMC purchases. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=268280.msg2888454#msg2888454
- 8/6 - The first hardware orders have been placed. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=268280.msg2881843#msg2881843

I am interested in 15 BTC. Some questions remain:

Have the miners already been ordered?

Which delivery day is the KNC miner at?

Whats the GH output per BTC?

I am interested in 15 BTC. Some questions remain:

Have the miners already been ordered?
Not yet, no one has sent in any funds as of yet.

Which delivery day is the KNC miner at?
I think that estimating delivery day stuff is silly... no one really knows when each order will be delivered. Also, nothing has been ordered yet.

Whats the GH output per BTC?
It's about 0.16975 BTC per Gh minus expenses. The point of this group buy isn't really to order the cheapest hardware (although I have tried to find the best/cheapest offerings). It is to spread the risk across multiple manufacturers so that in case one delays, we will still be hashing with the other 2 company's equipment.

See answers in bold.

Has anyone taken delivery of a VMC Fast-Hash yet?

They are not shipping yet. They are scheduled to ship October/November this year.

Hi Ch,

I just sent 50 btc. Please confirm receipt.

I think your idea of diversification of suppliers is great. It's the biggest risk that we face. Delays cost money!

I'd be ok if you were to change your terms to provide you with the flexibility of mining alt coins rather than bitcoins later on. Who knows what will be the best use of the gear in a few months time?

I will also be ok if you were to dispose of the miners via eBay or auctioning on this forum etc. Hopefully there will be future group buys where we can get the latest equipment.

I love your dog!

Cheers!

Thanks for getting us started. I can confirm I received 50 BTC from you, I will get an owners list started. The other person whom was interested as well, should be sending in his funds soon so we are well on our way with about 170 BTC already!

I think these are good ideas, I will probably go ahead and add them to the terms pending the other investor's approval. As of now we only have two people + myself, so it would be easier to change them now than in the future.

I love my dog too. Robbers beware, this 125 pound beast will rip you to shreds (he wouldn't hurt a fly!) Smiley

Thanks again,

Ch

Ok guys. No hurry I suppose, I will leave it open until I reach my hosting limit.

I won't have my BTC to invest until a few days either. All of my first couple dividend payments from the 7 dwarfs (yes, we nicknamed our Avalons) are going to go towards this too. Smiley

Thanks guys.

I will update the list of investors and put in our first orders tonight for a KNC Jupiter and Bitfury 400 Gh!

Next funds received will go towards a VMC Fast-Hash-One. I also hope Cointerra releases product information  and prices soon, I would like to add them to the list of hardware investments.. they seem like a very experienced team.

CH,
Are there any plans to re-invest profits to purchase new hardware once the purchased hardware is hashing?

Not at this time. Like our last group buy, I imagine it would be hard to get everyone to agree on a reinvestment plan.

I myself would love to come up with some type of reinvestment plan for the group. I usually have no available BTC, because its all wrapped up in investments. I prefer it this way and I would like to keep it that way. This ensures I can't spend it on stupid things like gambling, and my involvement with BTC stays purely a long term investment as I originally intended it to be.

If we can agree on a reinvestment plan that is approved by a majority vote of share holders, I would be willing to implement it. Worst case scenario, the people whom would like to reinvest can start a new group buy like I have done here.

UPDATE:

The first hardware orders have been placed. Congratulations, you are all owners of the following:

1 October Bitfury - 400 Gh - Tx ID: 04d50ed32542ac1d0b1da6a731618384d6944de5ceac7c417bed8af24a2ee863
1 KNC Jupiter - 400 Gh - Tx ID: 2ae86031f3ea87dd0fc037292084852743dcc1b55a66ca471fd79368d8741834
2 VMC Fast-Hash-Ones - 512 Gh - Tx ID: 9cb0540b9a8cd5eca613898ff6266c7fe048ea209602959756a472f30540ddf5

1312 Gh ordered so far!

We have about $6,586.51 in our group account (61.630353 BTC) towards the next purchase of a second Bitfury Obtober 400 Gh

I am watching the Xcrowd, Cointerra, and HashFast situations closely and considering ordering hardware from them as well, please give me your opinions. My opinion is something along the lines of:

1. Xcrowd's pay on delivery seem like a nice deal.. would be be hard to get scammed.
2. Cointerra put together an impressive team and I am most exited about their announcement. I live not too far from them, so that could come in handy for numerous reasons.
3. HashFast seems like another serious ASIC startup out of the tech heavy area of San Jose, Ca. - They have not released much information as of yet, but I am anxiously awaiting more news.

Yes, I am planning on leaving this open until I feel like I've reached my hosting capacity (about 5000 watts of miners- possibly more if I can figure out a better HVAC solution.)

I am not worried about equipment arriving at different times, in fact I am expecting it to. Dividends will be payed out on hardware that has been received, regardless if all hardware has arrived or only one machine.

UPDATE:
I wanted to explain about the transactions with VMC in case anyone was wondering. Let me preface this by saying I hate MtGox as a payment processor, there is a reason why Bitpay is #1 in that sector.

So.. I get to the MtGox order screen. It said send 78.458647 BTC to xyz address (9cb0540b9a8cd5eca613898ff6266c7fe048ea209602959756a472f30540ddf5.) So, I did that and for forever it was stuck on the screen that said "There is not enough Bitcoins on the payment address, please send the Bitcoin payment to the address listed below."

Meanwhile, the amount of BTC I'm supposed to send is fluctuating with the current Mt.Gox price, so even though I sent in enough coins the first time- the exchange rate changed in between when I sent the first transaction and when the payment was processed by Gox. So I ended up having to send in another 1.433653 BTC (febd36dd254d607015c94f658a189d2e2e66caeca21d5d1f743c8ba9f1437eaf.) This time it finally switches over to paid, and we received a small refund of 0.85440364 BTC from Mt.Gox (d79dd61c13f21b11831bbe4dfeec0f0a0758bab9f0a63cb37452bcd7ccc4a779.)

I just wanted to explain this chain of events in case anyone was looking at the block chain in regards to the group buy account and was wondering what happened.

Also, I just placed another order for another October Bitfury 400 Gh. We have 39.30000364 BTC leftover for the purchase of a second KNC Jupiter.

I have a feeling this will be open for about a month, at the very least a couple more weeks. I think there should be more than enough time for you to do what you've got to do.

I will update the thread if my hosting limit is close to being reached. And perhaps if you ask me nice enough after it is closed, I will sell you a portion of my shares with no mark up (just because I will feel bad for you to get left out.)

Cheers,

Although I said I will do my best to update the thread when I am nearing capacity, it is possible capacity could be reached just by one large investment. So, the plus side of sending in early is to secure your spot in the group buy.

If this fills up and you don't get in, I wouldn't be too worried about it. Other group buys will pop up or are already accepting orders. I like to think that the plus side of ordering with me is that I am extremely trustworthy, am very capable of setting up and maintaining this large of a farm, and also I run a very transparent operation that leaves no room for foul play on my end.

I can send you 5btc tomorrow and will try to increase that amount before closing. Approx. what % of the 5000W total are you at right now?
Ok, cool. Welcome to the group. Smiley

This is just a quick estimate, but it looks like we have about 2000 watts already ordered. I expect this group buy to go on for about a couple more weeks, but as I said it could end abruptly.

Thanks,

Along those lines would it be possible to have you update the G/hash per 1 BTC as the investments in the group buy change?

Thanks!!

Sure, I will do that tonight.  Smiley

EDIT: Again, I would like to state the the purpose of this group buy is not to have the lowest $ per GH price. It is to spread our investment to as many manufacturers as possible to hedge our investment. Ordering from one manufacturer can be dangerous because if they delay, then you and your investors are screwed. That happened with my first group buy with Avalon.

This is why I came up with the plan to order from many manufacturers, to lower the risk of pre-ordering ASICs.

It seems Hashfast opened up orders today.

Would there be any objections within the group to ordering a 400 Gh unit from them?

It is 400 GH for $5,600 scheduled for October 20-30 delivery

Read more here: fasthash.com

We are about 16 BTC short of being able to purchase one.

Hi kushedout,

No problem. You are all equally important in my eyes.  Smiley

As long as I receive a yes from the majority of shareholders, then I will add them to the list of hardware we are investing in.

My vote would be yes but I haven't got my BTC yet for the group buy, so I will abstain.

No problem.

317.05898936 BTC invested in hardware orders thus far.

2 Bitfury Oct. - 800 Gh
1 KNC Jupiter - 400 Gh
2 VMC Hash-Fast-Ones - 512 Gh

= 1712 Gh total

= 5.3996 Gh per BTC

This number will increase if we end up adding HashFast to the list.

I'm wondering if I should withdraw my vote for hashfast. There are a lot of issues with their offering right now. They've really not provided any technical data at all or told us what stage they are in production. Should we just go straight to another Jupiter?

I don't know. IMO a lot of the naysayers are just spreading FUD. I might be wrong about some of them, some of them might be genuinely concerned, but I don't feel like it is fair to treat HashFast any differently from any of the other unproven vaporware vendors. At least not until they have proven themselves untrustworthy. I just don't see enough evidence that would make me say that they are a scam.

You need to take everything that everyone says on these forums with a grain of salt. There are a lot of special interests at work. Not only manufacturer's special interest, but individual miners as well trying to spread FUD to keep difficulty as low as possible. I noticed one of the biggest naysayers was someone who has been endorsing the crap out of KNC, perhaps he just doesn't want people to order these machines and the difficulty to go up higher than he had planned, or perhaps he is being paid by KNC. You just never know...

Use your own mind and make your own decisions, but I don't see anything that would make HashFast a certain scam. Maybe their timeline is a little ambitious, but they are a bit cheaper than other offerings, allowing for a little cushion of delay time.

I didn't mean to get all "tin foil hat" conspiracy theoryish with you in my explanation. When someone asks my opinion, I will tell them exactly how I feel without holding back (unless it's my non existent girlfriend asking if she looks fat in this dress, etc.)  Grin

I'm a big believer that everyone should do their own research and formulate their own opinions when it comes to the validity of the manufacturers, ROI, who to invest with, etc. That way the only person you can blame is yourself (or the manufacturer if they don't live up to their promises) and not blindly follow someone else's advice.

UPDATE:

- Please register for the group buy forums. They are private forums, to register you must send a PM to Relm9 on these forums (bitcointalk.org). Include the Email address that you would like to register with and he will get you verified.

Again, they are private so you cannot see the forums or register by simply visiting the link, please contact Relm9 for that. We had problems with bots registering and posting advertisements when setting up the first group buy. Also, there are security concerns with hosting this much equipment, so I only let participants know about the inner workings of the hosting logistics.

I am not an admin of the forums for transparency reasons (I would be able to edit/delete any posts, etc.)

After you have PMed Relm9 and he gets you verified, you may visit the forums here: http://www.yourcoins.org/forums/forums/diversified-group-buy.4/

- I have polls going on whether not to order from HashFast/CoinTerra/xCrowd. If the majority votes yes on any manufacturer's poll, then I will make sure to order at least 1 miner from each. Please vote if you care which companies we invest in! Normally I put up a poll when a decision has to be made so that everyone has a voice.

- After the group buy has completed, all correspondence will be done through our forums. Like my first group buy, I will have many threads having to deal with the logistics of everything. Please go ahead and register even if you don't plan on voting. Thank you.

My thoughts on HashFast:

- 1 HashFast Golden Nonce (GN) Chip
 - Under 350 watt power draw*

Doesn't removing ~250W TDP from one single chip die seem like a significant engineering challenge?

What's the core voltage on that bad boy?  Sounds like you'd need to be supplying it with at least a couple hundred amps...

Similarly:

So lets make a giant chip that generates so much heat we need liquid cooling, nothing can go wrong  Roll Eyes

It's not like you get lower yields and tend to run into more problems with leakage and lower roof for clock frequency or anything like that with massive chips, no no we need maximum gh/chip nothing else matters!

cointerra also want to make a single chip > 500 gh

I can't say much more about their ability to do that  than "they look serious,"
but I wouldn't dismiss a venture based on technical considerations unless I
felt  I was technically on par with the people who run it. In other words: may be they know how to do it?

The list of investors has been updated.

We have enough to buy another mining rig. I'm on the fence as of now whether to order another KNC Jupiter as planned, or perhaps order from one of the newer companies. I am expecting an announcement from xCrowd/Cointerra any day now, which could shake things up a bit as far as options and ROI on different mining equipment.

Also, with KNC's new referral program (buy 10 get 1 free), we might be able to work out a deal with another group buy to add a portion of the free 400 Gh to our dividends if we order more product from them, so it is something to think about. Along with that, rumors of a price drop for December KNC Jupiters is just another reason to hold off a little bit.

I will put a hold on ordering hardware to let everyone discuss the options for a bit. Please vote in the polls and discuss on the forums. Smiley

With our current orders and BTC, we have enough funds to order at least 2 Th worth of mining equipment. Shocked

Right now, this is where we stand on ordering from the newer companies:

xCrowd: No (3 No, 1 Yes)
HashFast: Tied (2 Yes, 2 No)
Cointerra: Yes (3 Yes, 1 No)

Only about 4 people have voted in the polls on the forums. Please everyone go vote!

Again, I will not vote in the polls... I am leaving this decision entirely up to you guys! So please make sure to register for the forums and have your voice heard!

right now it seems the wisest thing to do is to wait for a few days or a week

I am very open about my accounting procedures and every transaction that goes to and from the group account. Therefore, I wanted to mention to the group that Egon had something come up and he needs a refund of this transaction:

I am processing this for him now... just FYI incase someone was looking at the block chain and wondering what happened.  Grin

Hi CoinHoarder,

I'm interested in your approach but I think you might want to consider HashFast and their Oct 20-30 slated delivery of 550 units over something aimed at a November/December delivery at a lesser hashrate. Their HF Jet offers the best $/GH offer available anywhere ATM. If there's some meat to dem bones, their miner protection plan may have the best pre-order protection (but I still wish they used CCs).

Question: Can you share avg. returns seen from your first GB? I'm not doubting you, and I know past results don't guarantee future results, but I'm just curious how well the Avalon GB worked out for (lucky) shareholders. We all know this story could've ended badly if they were wayward B2/B3 units instead of the B1 units that were delivered. Publishing this ROI stat, with caveats, could do wonders for your sales.

Going forward, even w/ TH+ equipment it's going to be difficult, if not impossible, to match the returns seen from Avalon B1 units. Still, it'd be nice to hear some real world examples for those hesitant about the whole Group Buy approach.

Instead of buying my own lower end KnC or BF miner, I'm thinking really hard about joining one like this or even trying to org. one myself for 1 high end miner via John K. since I still have funds for 1 or more pre-orders this year. The net. difficulty and cost of hardware just about makes it impossible for smaller miners to keep up. If you want to mine, I think this is sadly, the future of mining.

I'm part of that group buy; it's going to depend on difficulty adjusting. By my latest estimates we looking at around earning 30% on our investment. We are about to get ~0.2 BTC per share (1 BTC initially) tomorrow Smiley!

I can vouch CH is dedicated to his group buys!

Ah... home sweet home.  Grin

Firstly, we did not order Batch 1 Avalons. If we had, then we would of already made ROI and a huge profit. My first group buy was for Batch 3 Avalons. Unfortunately Avalon delayed about 3 months, as you might know. Although we will not make as much profit as we were expecting (we thought we'd break even in 1-2 months), I think we will still make a modest profit. I'm not going to speculate on how much or how little that will be, because it is mostly out of my hands. My job is to keep the machines running stable, and whatever happens happens. As long as I am doing that and taking care of my duties as the group buy operator (dividend payments, share transfers, communicating with the group, etc.), then I feel like I have done a good job at the end of the day. No one knows exactly what difficulty will do in the coming months, all we can do is sit back and enjoy the show (or throw tomatoes  Cheesy).

Secondly, I try to learn from my mistakes and other people's mistakes as well. Avalon certainly made some type of mistake along the way with their 3 month delay- we can only speculate what that was. So with that in mind, on my second group buy offering, I am trying to do just that. Instead of putting all our eggs in one basket (Avalon), I am spreading the orders around to multiple manufacturers in hopes that it will lower the variance of delayed orders. I will not and am not investing our money in obvious scams for the sake of diversification. I am trying to stick to companies that I believe have good intentions and plan to release a product. Will they arrive on time? That is anyone's guess, that is why I am trying to not invest in too much hardware from one company.

Thirdly, all new ASIC companies that were not in my OP, I am allowing all members of the group buy that have deposited funds to vote on whether or not we will buy a miner from them. I have not and will not vote in these polls, it is completely up to my investors. Hashfast is currently sitting with 4 votes for yes and 4 votes for no, so I cannot say for certain that we will or will not buy equipment from them. It 100% depends on the outcome of the polls on our private forums.

Fourthly, it is up to you to do what you'd like with your money, but I will provide some facts for you. Let's take KNC as an example. Their low end miner Mercury is 100 Gh for $1995, meanwhile Jupiter is 400 Gh for $6995. Mercury is $19.95 per Gh, meanwhile Jupiter is $17.49 (rounded up). So, if you order a Jupiter you are getting about 12.3% more hashes for the same money than if you were to order a Mercury. My fee is only profit, minus electricity (which you would have to pay yourself anyways), minus 3%. There is about a 9.3% overlay there, which in theory, you will make 9.3% more than if you were to just order a Mercury and mine with it yourself. These savings are comparable among different ASIC vendors, most offer similar discounts for ordering faster equipment.

I hope I have covered everything, please let me know if you have anymore questions.

Thanks for the detailed response!

Yes, it seems that the only way to improve your odds of reaching ROI is to aim for the largest miners for the best value. I *think* HashFast's Miner Protection Plan is a pre-order miner's BFF as long as they can somehow show this isn't empty words. Not liking the new weasel wording they added to their site today.

I'm thinking really hard about joining a GB. I've also already received John K.'s pre-lim. approval to go ahead with a pre-escrowed HashFast/Cointerra GB. Weighing the costs/benefits of either joining one or trying to run my own but I've already done a lot of the prelim groundwork for one.

Organizing something like this is a piece of cake compared to my day job.  Grin

No problem. I agree on HashFast, if I was voting then my vote would be yes.

Good luck with your group buy (sincerely). I would not even try to organize something like this if I wasn't at least a Hero Member and had a lot of references/business dealings on the forums in the past. It is really hard to earn trust around here. There are still some people that don't trust me... it is what it is.

It may look easy, but this actually takes up A LOT of my free time. There are many duties that may not be easy to see from outside looking in. Also, I am very anal about everything and like to keep everybody updated about every little thing. If I have to move an Avalon over an inch, I will let everyone know that. I probably spend way more time on this stuff than necessary, but it is important to me that everyone is happy with my service.

Cheers,

Ch

Thanks for voting. It seems that HashFast's miner protection plan might of put them with enough votes for an order. The vote was tied 4-4 before that announcement, and now is at 7 Yes, 4 No. We have enough funds for a baby jet, and I said I'd order by votes, so...

If you are against or for ordering a babyjet miner from HashFast, please go vote in the polls on our forums. If we are indeed ordering from HashFast, we need to go ahead and get our place in line, so that is why I'm setting the deadline on Sunday. I will tally up the votes on the HashFast poll this Sunday to decide. Again, about half the group has still not voted, please go vote if you care one way or the other.

I might jump in on this, though 5 BTC being the minimum makes me somewhat sad.

Anyways, are you going to make unpacking videos like what people do when they are one of the first to get a PS3 or Wii or whatever? I would love to see the packaging and whatnot which gets sent with these miners.

Are there any plans for buying hardware from AsicMiner? They are apparently releasing info out soon about their new blades, hence my curiosity.

Good to see some seemingly honest attempt at a group buy with diversified mining hardware risk, along with very through responses.

Are you considering putting this on BTCT or BitFunder to allow a larger investor pool resulting in even more diversification?

Hi everyone. Another reason of freezing deposits from new investors was to give people that participated in the first group buy a chance to get in before capacity is reached. If you are/were a shareholder in the first group buy, the deposit address is still up there on our forums, feel free to send funds in. Please reply with you transfer ID on our forums and not this thread so there is no confusion.

I will let everyone know when deposits open back up.

Actually, we are about $819.32 short of ordering two HashFasts. There are only about 150 left, so I want to make sure we will be able to order 2 on Sunday.

Therefore, I am opening back up deposits, payment address was added back to the OP.

I might jump in on this, though 5 BTC being the minimum makes me somewhat sad.
I had over 100 investors in my original group buy. I made the 5 BTC limit for this group buy to limit the number of investors, otherwise there would be a lot of people sending in small amounts and it just adds to my workload. My apologies.

Anyways, are you going to make unpacking videos like what people do when they are one of the first to get a PS3 or Wii or whatever? I would love to see the packaging and whatnot which gets sent with these miners.
Possibly I will. I imagine the others will on the forums, but if no one has when I receive mine, then sure I will!

Are there any plans for buying hardware from AsicMiner? They are apparently releasing info out soon about their new blades, hence my curiosity.
They are incredibly overpriced IMO. It will be hard to make ROI with any ASICMINER consumer mining products.

Good to see some seemingly honest attempt at a group buy with diversified mining hardware risk, along with very through responses.

Thanks.  Smiley

Are you considering putting this on BTCT or BitFunder to allow a larger investor pool resulting in even more diversification?
I'm not going to rule this possibility out, but initially things will be done outside of exchanges. The old addage of "if you want something done right, do it yourself" applies here. When GLSBE went down, it cause mayn problems. I do not want this to happen to my investors and I, therefore I have been doing everything myself- from share transfers to dividend payments. The auction subforum is a good place to sell shares, or the marketplace too.

I know you are already planning on Eligius, but just wanted to suggest Bitparking as an option. It uses DGM so there's no risk of 'stale shares' like CPPSRB, it's also 0% fee, and they do merge mining which adds a few % to the income.

Only current/former group buy participants can invest less than 5 BTC.

I'm trying to limit the people I have to deal with.. I had 90+ people in my first group buy, and honestly it is kind of a headache. So, I put a limit on it this time in hopes that it would limit the number of people in the group buy. My apologies, this likely will not change.

Ordering is back on hold, but deposits are still welcome.

The next unit purchased will likely be an xCrowd unit or Cointerra. Cointerra announced they'll release prices in 48 hours, xCrowd supposedly will do this on Monday. Please discuss these companies in the forums/vote in the polls.

Today, Cointerra announced their first product: a 2 TH/s ASIC bitcoin miner retailing for $15,750, with a forecast shipping date in December.

Can we believe them, so far our combined order of all the units is just over 2 th and we've spent over $40k collectively however this is $16k, a part of me wants to believe it yet another part is telling me that this seems a bit too good to be true

The two months makes a big difference though, with difficulty soaring like it is. In the pricing thread about it, people are saying Genesis Block mining estimates for it at that price won't break even.

ASIC mining is turing into the sport of kings.  KNC and a few others can probably give a decent ROI but the long run are the chip builders who end up mining themselves.

Not sure how outsiders can get into their party since that is why they are outsiders and not insiders.... Kiss

So is this group buy still open to newcomers? I'd be interested to pitch in. Although I won't be able to transfer money until I get home later today.

Yep, sill open.  Smiley

CH,
Where do we stand as far as power and cooling? Is this about the limit of miners you are considering?
I am going to send a bit more if you are going to invest in more miners.
DBA
We have about 3000 watts of equipment ordered, I am placing the limit at 5000 watts. So.. definitely still some room available.

I haven't had a chance to look over CoinTerra's offering yet. I will likely do that in a few moments. At this point I am suggesting we go with whatever is cheaper. Whether that be HashFast/BFL/Cointerra/xCrowd.. I'm not really sure at the moment.

Please discuss the options on our forums. Smiley

Interesting thing about Xcrowd is 1- refund policy, 2- funds held by John K, 3- price drop if diff too high by ship date.

Interesting thing about Xcrowd is 1- refund policy, 2- funds held by John K, 3- price drop if diff too high by ship date.

I think the best options as of right now are:
xCrowd (good prices, escrow, and miner protection plan)
HashFast (decent prices and miner protection plan)

Then there is option #3 to wait for Avalon generation 2, which will be a no preorder- immediate delivery option in October/November. I think it would be hard to get burned with this option and I am leaning toward it, however xCrowd/HashFast miner protection plans also make it to where it would be hard to get burned unless they were an outright scam.

I started a thread in our forums to discuss these 3 options, please post your opinions. Thanks!

I opened up a topic of discussion for this exact issue on our forums. I am going to read the feedback from current investors and then decide on a plan. As of now the exact plan is not known, so please submit your opinion on our forums so that I can accurately judge the group's majority opinion.

http://www.bitfurystrikesback.com

It says now "now accepting orders from all corners of our planet" and prices have been lovered.
Theres also a new option for UPS express saver delivery.

Havent had a chance to look at the US sales page yet.

Edit: No change there yet.

I think the focus should be on something that at least promises an October delivery. I think HashFast looks more promising in that aspect.

I was wondering about the changes in European Bitfury sales page:

Here´s an update from Punin:
Quote
Update

I've added option for UPS Express Saver shipping, and dropped the prices a bit as further october orders will most likely ship in very late october. Those who picked first october orders are likely to receive theirs in very early october, if not september.

Regarding invoices: there was a problem on the site. I will need to send invoices manually. You will get an invoice, don't worry.

I need to sleep now. Shanghai awaits tomorrow. I should have more news for you in about 30 hours.

So should we expecting early October delivery?

It seems quite likely that newer 28nm products like cointerra will be useful for a longer
period of time and so will bring more BTC longer term.

I just interpreted this meaning "further" as in, orders made after todays price drop will ship very late october.

Anyway, progress seems positive.

Ok, u might have a point on this, and for sake of diversity this might be a smart thing to do.

Since there already is plenty of HW for the short term, planning also for long term would be smart.

xCrowd has been removed from the list of potential investments. It seems that by far the majority of the group does not want to invest in their products.

That leaves us with either Cointerra or HashFast as our next investment. I am suggesting HashFast because of their miner protection plan. If Cointerra delays then we are essentially screwed, but if HashFast delays then at least we get free chips to make up for it.

Does my reasoning make sense?

right now cointerra seems more promising to me, but I don't mind having this GB buying
another hashfast. Especially since we have enough funds to buy one right now, and for cointerra
it's not clear when and if we'll be able to buy it.

Personally I might join another GB for cointerra or even xcrowd in this case.

Yes, I'm at work right now and don't have much time but this seems like a correct assessment. There is about 167 BTC left over in the group account. This will likely go towards:
A. CoinTerra 2 Th unit
B. KNC's discounted December Jupiter (not sure when they're planning on releasing price for this)
C. More HashFast Baby Jets

I am negotiating with an ASIC manufacturer for cheaper prices for a bulk buy of their equipment (I will leave this manufacturer unnamed for now- if you are already an investor, I have explained the situation in our forums.) I am talking to the CEO of this company and submitting a business proposal this weekend, and hopefully I will hear back from them sometime next week. This is why I'm holding off on ordering for now, I think I can get us a better deal than what's publicly available.

Thanks everyone.

I'm just giving fair warning, I will likely end this group buy in less than two weeks- possibly as soon as a week. We are nearing hosting capacity. I reserve the right to end this offer at anytime and refund any funds that were not used in purchases. I am sorry for those of you who want to invest and get left out. There's only so much hardware I can host. Thank you for understanding.

Make sure to send with an address you can receive with!

Got a rough estimate on how much more BTC you'll accept based on the amount of hardware you'll host?

Got a rough estimate on how much more BTC you'll accept based on the amount of hardware you'll host?

186.22720364 BTC ($22,347.26) in group account left over for our final purchases.

Hardware ordered:
2 - Bitfury 400 Gh Kit - (October Delivery) - 164.8742 BTC
800W
1 - KNC Miner Jupiter 400Gh - (October Delivery) - 73.1469 BTC
1000w
2 - VMC Fast Hash One 256 Gh - (October/November Delivery) - 79.03789636 BTC
500w
1 - HashFast Baby Jet 400 Gh - (Late October Delivery) - 59.1418 BTC
375w
2675w Total

5000w Limit, so 2325w of space left. We have $22,347 which could buy hardware pretty close to the limit depending on how efficient/costly hardware we get. At this point investors will be refunded if capacity is reached.

Make sure to send with an address you can receive with!

Maybe time to slant towards Bitfury because of the lower power draw. Smiley

I hope you don't mind me making multiple transactions. Of course for payouts
all 3 can be pooled together (totalling 8.4)  with any of the inputs used for dividends.

I feel that the hosting limit has been reached. I won't know for sure until we make our last hardware order, but I am no longer allowing people to send in funds.

We have about 199 Bitcoins for our last purchase. As many of you know, I am trying to reach out to the hardware manufacturers to secure us the best deal possible. As of right now, options are limited for hardware that will actually break even, therefore I'm looking into other alternatives. Again, please excuse me for holding onto group funds for this long and not making a purchase. I am looking for a deal among deals that would really knock this investment out of the park and make it a great opportunity for all involved.

Thanks for all of your support! If any extra funds are needed for our final purchase, then I will open this back up at a later time. For now consider it closed.

Thank you,

Ch

CH,

I sent payment yesterday (see our other forum for TX details).  It is in addition to my previous shares (should have 8.44 now)  I wasn't sure if you wanted me to post in both forums, so I decided to just because.

Honestly I haven't got that together yet.

I will make a nice spreadsheet showing ownership percentages and pay out addresses. I will ask everyone to make sure I have the correct address on file before any dividends are payed.

So.. there will be plenty of time to get that worked out. My apologies for not being able to check now, I'm quite busy juggling work and other responsibilities.

Thanks,

Ch

Hi Zedicus,

I feel bad for you. I remember you telling me you were getting BTC for this through coinbase or something similar. If you still want to invest with us, please PM me and I'll arrange something. Please know that if we don't end up using your funds, that you will be refunded in full and left out anyways. But, I would like to try to include you because I feel bad.

Anyways.. PM me if you want to work something out!

I put up a poll on our forums for a back up plan in regards of what to do if I am not able to negotiate a better deal with an ASIC manufacturer.

Please go vote!

Updates and news Can be found at,

www.yourcoins.org/forums/forums/diversified-group-buy.4/

Please register for the group buy forums.

Thank you.

Thank you poundnote  Smiley

To respect other group buys that are actually open, 99% time I'll post news on our private forums. That is what they are there for. I prefer a more structured environment private forums bring, because we can sticky threads and separate different subjects. So, if you haven't already... PM Relm9 to register for the forums.

Cheers,

Ch

https://www.kncminer.com/news/news-37

Just a couple of quick updates from us at KnCMiner.
The big news is that all the production orders that are due for delivery before October 15th have now been confirmed with the factory for final assembly and our production schedule is now locked. As such, we are not able to make any more changes.
Over the past few days everyone who has requested shipment via UPS have had their address details confirmed and altered where needed. We still have many customers who have provided incorrect VAT details and we are contacting everyone affected by this, if you are not a registered company with real VAT number, you will have to pay VAT at the relevant rate.
We know that everyone is keen to see more photos and videos of the products and production so we will be releasing our launch video in the coming days. Look out for more news as it happens!

Thanks KnCMiner Team

So Coinhoarder hasn't replied to my PM.  He hasn't been on the group buy forum since Oct 13th.  Says last active on here Oct. 16th.  What are we going to do about this?  KNC has shipped ALL orders so he should be getting that machine soon if he hasn't already.  This isn't looking good....

It ain't looking good.... I've also sent coinhoarder a pm on October 15, and he ain't had the decency to reply even though he has been active on the forum latest being yesterday October 22. So yeah I'm also concerned, with the ignored pm & the total silence / lack of information from group organiser coinhoarder.
