That amount is good enough to buy different coins that has potential, diversify your investment in btc and altcoins. Choose the one that has uses and progressing development such as Btc, Eth and iota. I have many coins in my portfolio and I did some research before investing my money. That's nice, spreading your budget into different coins. Like eth and btc are good investment these are on my list also. Ethereum is the best investment today so we could purchase and hold this coin. Actually always do some research for other coins to invest.

Maybe you should first try to read some of the threads that will help you in investing. I suggest invest it in an ICO that you know will give you rewards in the long term. For me it depends if this 500$ dollars for him is hard to earn again (mean from job or smth like that) cause this is nice amount to just buy thrash coins and wait for their big pump.
