There has been some ICO's that are cheaper once they get listed on an exchange.  Look into the bounties, if the project is allocating a large amount of coins for the bounties, there is a chance it will dip when the bounty hunters dump.  I would also wait until an exchange if the ICO requires a KYC verification.

That is the risk of an ICO , you are paying a set value , so if you want to take a big risk you buy during the ico and hope it all works out. If you want to be safer you can wait till the coin hits the exchanges , then you will see the real popularity of the project . Just keep in mind that some ico's buy their own coins to make the project look more in demand.

How often does the price get lower than the ICO price when a new coin is listed on its first exchange house ?

How come there are coins that are worth like 0.0004 $, usually during an ICO one coin is sold in the range of 1$ or not ?

Do some "coins" skip the ICO stage ?

I think buying coins when ico is more profitable because you will get some bonus tokens.
while when the coin enter your exchanger will not get any bonus.
Not all Ico is profitable, be carefull on which one you are investing to because you might end up losing everything in 1 snap.

It's currently tulip season. Grin We're in the middle of a market crash. We'll probably be able to get some huge discounts on upcoming and recent ICOs on the exchanges. Just check out Trinity Network, Bloom, and Selfkey. Heck, even Kin is poised to drop beneath $1oo mil, and maybe even Dragonchain in a few days.

Often. But as a rule, the price first grows in relation to the prices that were on ICO, after a short time the price drops to the level of ICO or even lower. But this does not always happen. Sometimes an asset grows in value from the listing itself and does not fall to the levels of ICO ever.

On ICO, it is more profitable to buy because of the bonuses and the chance that the coin will be traded more expensive than the ICO price is very high.

Hey ThinkandGrowRich,

although I'm new to everything, I want to share my experiences and knowledge I have aquired so far by reading through the forum (if anybody spots errors, I'd be thankful if you'd point them out to me):

ICO do offer a great deal - you can get a relatively low price before the herd buys in (price might then increase drastically), even more so do Pre-ICOs
However, it comes with a risk:
a) that price will rise during the crowdsale is not guaranteed
b) Some turn out to be scams and the team you chose to invest in might disappear and your money will be gone (that's why research is the most important thing - don't worry, there a many of quality research sites out there that can be consulted - although you should alway conduct your own)

Last but not least you have to watch out to what is called "flipping": Investors who look for short term but guaranteed profit will sell a great share of their tokens once the coin is listed at an exchange, resulting in a great dip in price - so whatch out.

I'm going to invest in my first ICO in february myself and threfore read everything of value that can advise me (again, if anybody can contribute in terms of things I should be mindful of, I'm happy to listen and learn), so good luck to us both.  Wink

Why do you think that we are at the center of the collapse of the market)) This is a normal situation for the market. There is a correction. It's the opposite, a good time for shopping. The market is cyclical. In occasion of ICO it is possible to argue on a miscellaneous. There are those who enter the market and lose in price three times five times and then they need to half a year to just get to the ICO price. There are both successful yet unsuccessful.

Buying tokens during the ICO is good if the team offers bonuses to investors during the sale of tokens. If the bonuses are not offered during the sale of the tokens and the project is very risky, it is better to buy the coins after entering the exchange.

You will benefit more if you will purchase your coins/tokens in ICO than when it gets listed on the exchanges. Usually in ICO, especially on pre-sale, tokens are cheapest because you are offered with a significant discount or bonus. Some offer a staggering 100-200% bonus. With that bonus, you will absolutely be rewarded with insanely huge profit when it hit the exchange.

No, think about it why the developers will offer such bonuses if they believed in their coin? I have never seen such huge bonuses but if they exist then most likely the coin is a scam, after all that show the developers are willing to give their coins away in exchange for bitcoin or ethereum if I thought that I was sitting in the next big thing I will not give a bonus at all.

You need to do the maths and make some educated predictions. Take into consideration the length of the ICO and how much you think ether will rise in that time. Look at comparable products that have gone through an ICO and what their growth has been since landing on an exchange. Like everything in the crypto world - the answer is to really do your research!

Research and Research! This is the most important thing where you can base your possible actions either buying earlier or wait into an exchange. Sometimes we do really need to depend on intuition because everything could happen ahead even no matter how good your research is this unpredictable market will really ruin it but somehow we do have basis on what we have done. Just stick to it according to your knowledge.

The best case scenario is that you get into the pre-sale or private sale of an ICO. You get the coin at a discount of the ICO public sale price.

Buying during the ICO stage allows for the greatest profit, but it does include higher risk of course.

If you are more risk averse then wait until it hits the exchange.

I think the safest way to buy tokens with ICO on exchanges.
I was searching for Ethereum privacy coins because I think new projects related to privacy will go to the moon in 2018! (And it is safer to invest in real projects on Ethereum, since this year Ethereum will go up anyways hence the price of the tokens will go up with it!)

I believe in this project: Ethereum Meta

I'm buying tokens on project I like on two stages - PRE-ICO with the biggest possible bonus and few days after bounty distribution. Because most bounty hunters are instantly dropping token they get without looking at token price or project potential.

Lately many coins have fallen below the ico price after entering the exchange. I prefer to buy it when I enter the exchange instead of buying it from ico.
Ico investments do not make as much money as old times.

Buying in ico phase might be a little bit risky because you don't know if the ico will be listed on a exchange. But I think it is worth the risk because the reward is very big. If you still want to play safe just buy from the exchange but your gainz will be lower.

Most ico especially those sold out when they hit on exchange are above ico price so if you will buy on exchange it will dump for sure it's not recommended.

if i am an investor i would prefer in ico, because buying in ico will get a low price and also we will get profit if coins go into market. but we have to selectively and carefully what coins we will buy because we have to make sure the coin has a good price when it goes to the exchanger.

It is very difficult to guess where the coin price will go after ICO. But there is a pattern: if the project is reliable and promising, there are hype, wihitelisting and KYC the project price goes up. BTW I always try to get in during ICO stage.

There are too many factors that decide coin value. If ICO has low hardcap but bigger potential and investors then we see higher prices right after it hit the exchange. Another factor is KYC regulations. A lot of investors want to remain anonymous so they don't join ICO phase but buy from exchanges. There is also a possibility that coin hit the exchange lower than ICO price. Bounty payments are usually deciding factor in latter.
