for long term investments I recommend investing in bitcoin. but for now I recommend investing in etherum, dash, and electroneum. these three coins I think will continue to rise in 2018. but the risk will remain, and I only suggest the best.

With 500$ you should invest 100$ or 200$ in something more secure like Ethereum.
Other 400 you can invest some long term or better short term coins with low value.
You can gain a lot if you pick the right ones, so 500$ could be a large investment.
I advise you to do your own research even when you get an advice.

If you want to invest in ICO, try to invest in tokenpay. If you will invest in an altcoin try to look at verge. They have same features of security but I think tokenpay has potential to move up.

$500 is good amount if you want to invest in one altcoin only you can try to invest your $500 to ripple and for sure your money will grow and maybe after few months of holding it become $10,000 more.  Ripple price before is very low and now they worth more than dollars because before it's cents only so those people bought ripple last few months earn a lot of profit  because the price increase.  You can make a research so you can get a lit of cheap altcoin don't buy altcoin have big price because you don't earn big profit you can get only some profit from your capital.
