⚡ List of Escrow Providers ⚡ ⚡ WHAT IT IS: People trading goods and services can add a tool in order to "increase" the trust on both sides: customers and vendors. That may be done by employing an escrow system for all transaction. That additional step gives both sides some garantees. ⚡ HOW IT IS: This means that when you make an order the coins are deducted from your wallet, moves into a temporary escrow account, then after the vendor sends the order, he confirms it was sent. When you receive the package, you confirm it being received and the vendor claims the coin. ⚡ WHAT IF: If for whatever reason you do not receive the package you can send the order into resolution, where you and the vendor can resolve the problem or should that not work, the escrow service will step in an resolve the issue. Keep in mind this system is to prevent fraud on both the end of the seller and the buyer. ⚡ SUMMARY: Escrow services will not grant you 100% scam proof, but it is definetly an additional security layer in order to avoid coin losses and fraudsters. All parameters here are subject to change, this is a work in progress... If you got an idea, share it with us! This is not meant to be an exhaustive list, just an preview for clients/customers in order to avoid scammers. ⚠️ We do not endorse any escrow provider. This list is not a recommendation of escrow services. Due diligence is a must, do yours! DYOR!Rank: the member's position on the list. Escrow provider: who's offering the service. Escrow Provider Rating Grade → Thresholds per gradeAAA (Prime) → 15pts AA (High grade) → 12pts A (Upper medium grade) → 9pts BBB (Lower medium grade) → 6pts BB (Speculative) → 3pts B (Highly speculative) → 1pt CCC (Substantial risk) → 0 Score:( 50 * sqrt(Trust) + 1 * sqrt(Activity) + 2 * sqrt(Merit) + 10 * sqrt(Recognition) ) / ( 50 + 1 + 2 + 10 ) P.S. Contributions about improving the algorithm will be much appreciated. Trust: the 1st number (left to right) the escrow provider got at bitcointalk.org Marketplace trust system (as it's shown to me → Financisto). P.S. Escrow providers with overall negative ratings (1st number left to right) will not be accepted on the list.Brand new members with "Newbie" and "Jr. Member" status won't be accepted on the list as well: go get some activity/merit/trust first! Merit: the number shown at that indicator (under member's name/avatar). It shows if that member posts good stuff at bitcointalk.org community. Activity: the number shown at that indicator (under member's name/avatar). It shows how active (and for how long) that member is at bitcointalk.org community. Members without activity for over a year will be delisted. Recognition: The most recognized profiles which is calculated using: 1000 - ((Activity Rank + Trust Rank + Earned Merit Rank) / 3) by the Bitcointalk Public Information Project - BPIP. Fees: cost for using the escrow service. Sig.: Does the escrow provider work with PGP signed messages? And/Or does he or she sign messages from an already staked (b) cryptocurrency's address? P.S. Signed messages provide additional security measures in order to grant the client some authenticity, integrity, and non-repudiation. ⚡ Application form ⚡
If you wanna apply for this list, please post here (or send me PM with) the following info: 1) Your fees; 2) Do you work with either PGP signed messages OR signed messages from an already staked (b) cryptocurrency's address? 3) Link to your "escrow announcement thread or website". ⚡ Notes ⚡ (b) Stake your cryptocurrencies' addresses here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.0

I've made a couple posts in the services section. I'm willing to offer free escrow. I have plenty of seasoned users to vouch for me, I've been active in the marketplace for a long time, and I'm willing to provide ID for larger (like >5 BTC) transactions. I just want to become a more prominent member of the community.

I'm sorry but rankings are not correct, since its based on the green number. Its different for everyone, for example you can see 27 trust ratings on my profile but for others its probably 1 or 0. (Not sure) So if you want to keep it fair either use the green number a newbie can see (based on default trust) on escrow service providers profile or Use their total trust feedback.

Are ANY of the listed escrow agents actually escrow agents? I bet not a one of them is legit. By way of example: In the terminology of the escrow industry, all escrow agents performing escrow services in California are either “licensed” or “controlled” escrow companies. A "licensed" escrow company, which is also known as an “independent” escrow company, is licensed by the Department of Corporations. This license can only be obtained after the escrow company has met and satisfied all of the licensing requirements set forth by the Escrow Law, which are enforced by the Department of Corporations. http://www.corp.ca.gov/Laws/Escrow_Law/Consumer.asp

I talked to a family friend who is a lawyer in MD, and they told me as long as you are doing less than $50,000 in *escrow deals per year, you don't fall under MSB status that requires a money transmitter license, nor do you have to strictly follow AML laws. However, they told me if I wanted to be safe, to record any transactions above $10k and if I had suspicion that it was being used illicitly, I had an obligation to report it to some AML organization. ($10,000 transactions for neopets codes or something fishy like that, not for mining hardware)
However, I haven't done escrows that large in a while, so I haven't needed to record anything of the sort. Also, that being said, thats in Maryland, not sure how it applies elsewhere.
* She cited Bitcoin escrow as being similar to situations where a friend buys a car from another friend, and will have a mutual friend hold the money for an agreed upon amount of time, to make sure that they have assurance that the car wont fall apart due to an undisclosed issue. There are of course lawsuits available in that senario, however informal escrow is not uncommon. That is if you consider Bitcoin applicable to fiat laws, which assuming so is probably the safest way to stay out of trouble.
I think things change if you charge for your escrow service, depending on location, however if you do escrow for tips, you should be alright, again depending on location. Probably not a bad idea to talk to a lawyer or someone who can give you advice on how to keep yourself legal.

Yeah, I have mandatory tips. Or non-optional tips. Or something like that.
You can also call us the "middle-men" if you don't like calling us "escrows".
If bitcoin is following fiat laws, then it must be considered currency. Which is good for bitcoin. Especially if the US government decides that. However, how about the rest of the world?

I agree! By this time, while bitcoin is not recognised as a currency yet (by majors governments), I think we'll leave it that way: escrow. "Middle-men" reminds me of "man-in-the-middle" (attack). And that's so bad. BTW, besides some people might think differently, the world is a little wider than the US...

I completely agree that going by fiat law isn't correct for Bitcoin, but as we have seen as recently as Mike (Casascius) getting shut down, the U.S Gov is willing to overlook and imply a few things in order to be a pain in the ass. Abiding by fiat laws is partially unnecessary, however if its not a huge inconvience, its the safest way to operate without having someone knocking at your door. And if they do, you can at least say you were trying to do things legally. (That all assuming you are in the U.S)

Custodian, care taker, handler, "I know a guy."
The generic name is Trusted Third Party.
So we could go by: Trusted Third Party Bitcoin and Crypto Custodian.
My biggest has been 47 or 42 BTC, so not quite yet at the US limit. Then again, I could go by Weex exchange rate (or whoever is lowest). I mean, a bitcoin is only worth what someone will pay for it. It's ALWAYS less than you think.

On the other hand, take a look at the scuba ddiving industry. None of the certificate cards, such as PADI, NAUI, IANTD, GUE, etc are government departments or agencies. They are all just private entities or associations or groups or explorers. Yet they tend to call their c-cards as licenses. There is also no government requirement or regulation about accepting or preventing experienced or new divers from renting or using equipment.
In other words, they are self regulating.

Greetings! I've just started the following list in order to keep a track at who's offering an honest escrow service and in order to blacklist scammers out there. Only members with announcements threads / sites will be listed. All parameters here are subject to change, this is a work in progress... If you got an idea, share with us! This is not meant to be an exhaustive list, just an introductory guide for clients/customers in order to avoid scammers. We cannot guarantee any member's reliability and that your coins will be 100% safe. This is just a simple guide and tool. Due diligence is still necessary.P.s. I'll try to update the list once every 15 days or, at least, monthly.
Reasons for using an Escrow Service WHAT IT IS: People tranding goods and services can add a tool in order to increase the liability on both sides: customers and vendors. That may be done by employing an escrow system for all transaction. That additional step gives both sides some garantees. HOW IT IS: This means that when you make an order the bitcoins are deducted from your wallet, moves into a temporary escrow account, then after the vendor sends the order, he confirms it was sent. When you receive the package, you confirm it being received and the vendor claims the coin. WHAT IF: If for whatever reason you do not receive the package you can send the order into resolution, where you and the vendor can resolve the problem or should that not work, the escrow service well step in an resolve the issue. Keep in mind this system is to prevent fraud on both the end of the seller and the buyer. SUMMARY: Escrow services will not grant you 100% scam proof, but it is definetly an aditional security layer in order to avoid coin losses and scammers.
LIST - Legend / Labels: Rank: the member's position at the list; Reason - General classification of members. BT#: the 1st number (left to right) the member got at bitcointalk.org Marketplace trust system; Reason - "Web of trust" inside bitcointalk.org community. P.s. members with overall negative ratings (1st number left to right) will not be accepted on the list (the same for those already tagged as "SCAMMER" by community staff).
Brand new members with "Newbie" and "Jr. Member" status won't be accepted on the list as well: go get some activity first! OTC#: is the member "total rating" at #bitcoin-otc web of trust data. Reason - a long time OTC trader that did lots of deals tends to be more trustworthy. P.s. member must send a GPG signed personal message mentioning the link to his rating page at bitcoin-otc.com in order to be verified for this criterion. I'd also recommend that you add that link (rating page at bitcoin-otc.com) to your escrow service announcement page or to your personal signature. LB#: is the member score at LocalBitcoins.com. The score will be calculated as: Feedback score * Number of confirmed trades Reason - a long time P2P trader that did lots of deals tends to be more trustworthy. P.s. member must send a GPG signed personal message mentioning the link to his account profile page at localbitcoins.com in order to be verified for this criterion. Additional info: member must add his GPG fingerprint/key id as an additional profile info at localbitcoins.com in order to be verified. I'd also recommend that you add that link (account profile page at localbitcoins.com) to your escrow service announcement page or to your personal signature. Activity: the number shown at that indicator (under member's name/avatar); Reason - It shows how active (and for how long) that member is at bitcointalk.org community. Rating: it is the following (beta) algorithm. ( 25 * BT# + 5 * OTC# + 5 * LB# + 1 * SQRT(Activity) ) / ( 25 + 5 + 5 + 1 ) Reason - We are just trying to build our own kind of fair classification here. P.s. collaborations about a fairer algorithm in order to improve that task will be appreciated. Member: member's ID. Cryptocoin: which coin the escrow works with. PGP Sign: Does the escrow work with PGP signed messages/transactions? Reason - PGP is an additional tool in order to grant the client some authenticity and security. I think someone should create a new list with actual escrows. Though i guess only escrows are interested in this and this would mean if an escrow is doing this then it would look a bit strange and would bring up critics.

I was thinking to start a new one too, but I thought something like that. But using objective stats like that based on reputation would seem fair anyway.

I'm still here, but my stats don't really change, even though I handle more volume now. Some people are just too lazy to post feedback, and sometimes I'm too lazy to remind them. And I am quite often offline, so my current contracts are just about enough for me to handle.

The real problem is that Financisto hasn't been online for almost 3 months now. So all the stats are out of date, and new escrows are not included in the list.

Unfortunately i hear from many many people that they turn their back to bitcoin. I can understand it a bit. Practically everyone lost very much coins on scammers, inept businessmans, hacks, lost times for miners, accidents and so on. And a currency that is losing its worth more and more isnt very interesting at that time. Others are bound in their business and dont have time because of this. Maybe Financisto thinks similar.

Yes, this is a concern for various of us who believe in the internets and distributed systems like cryptocurrencies. Here in the local Bitcoin Association we have got a lot of people reaching us because they had they computers infected with Cryptolock in example. But we shall not be confused. This is no inherent to cryptocurrencies, every system could be exploited by both ways.

I don't think you'd want to use an escrow agent who is only 3 months old. Just saying. I'm sure Financisto is fine, he's probably just busy with real life stuff. I'm usually busy myself.

Greetings to all! I'm sorry I'm gonna lock this thread. Reason (as mentioned before by our friend Dabs) is: I'm sure Financisto is fine, he's probably just busy with real life stuff. [...]
As I've been VERY busy lately, I decided this way... I hope others will (or already are) keep some list like this one... And for those worried/curious about: I have not lost my faith in Bitcoin. We're still in the first stage. Cryptocurrencies are the future! I wish a wonderful new year for everyone! Cheers!

It has been a while when you decided to lock this thread (more than 2 years ago) Since you were very busy with your real life. But with this thread, there is another thread which has similar content (About escrow list). Here is the other one https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=855778.0

Yes I also know about the other thread. BTW @marcotheminer has been doing a great job since then. There's no problem at all with that situation, I guess my way of ranking the members is a bit different but the community only gets more benefits with two lists available!

Since "marcotheminer" thread isn't updated for a long time, it would be nice to have this updated version instead (I'm seeing a lot of other missing names that are present on the other thread, you should add them as well).
Here goes mine: 1) Cryptocurrencies accepted: BTCitcoin 2) Fees: 1% or minimum of 0.001 BTC (the greater one would be the fee) 3) PGP available? No. 4) Link to announcement thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1680647.0 Update:@SFR10
There you go!
Welcome to the list!

Cheers!

I replaced the previous "Escrow Service Class model" to something more similar to what's done by rating agencies as I think that's gonna be more professional... Please refer to OP to see it.
All scores have been updated.

I'd rather keep the original alphabetical order (A to D). "D" might also mean "disaster", "debacle", "disgrace", "discredit" or "danger". I like " débaclê"!

Thank you for including me on this list. P.s. collaborations about a fairer algorithm in order to improve that task will be appreciated.
Might I suggest that you also include the length an escrow service thread has been running in your rating.

That's an interesting idea. Maybe we should add how old an escrow service thread has been running (e.g. in number of months)... I'm gonna think a little more about that! BTW I guess I'll remove (or complement) the PGP signed message requirement because BTC signed messages from an already staked address might do the same work properly...

Well, I myself only created an escrow thread years after I started escrowing so the thread doesn't mean the start of escrowing. I could show other threads though. It might make sense at all since there were some highly trusted escrows in the past who created their accounts fast, leveled their trust up with scambusting and turned scammy after becoming escrows and had a lot of coins in escrow. Hopefully no escrow serious escrow would ever sell his escrow account. If he would then the start of escrow for an account wouldn't be of use anymore.

There were good ones, but they ask for more fee
The fee is depends from how much the transaction (now it isn't, they already set how much min fee without asking more (except the buyer give more by donation))

That delay while creating the thread might really happen. That's why I'm gonna set (2) as weight for that criteria if it's inserted in the rating calculation (and if I'm convinced it's worth the task)...no more, no less... Nevertheless I'm still thinking about it as there might be candidates with several threads spread around the forum and that's not good to keep track. edit: scores updated again. philipma1957 also joined the group! P.s. PGP signed messages option changed in order to support staked address' signed messages possibility. The requirement for reputation thread has been "dismissed"...

I do have question regarding John (John K.). I was under the impression that he stopped being active/doing escrow a while ago. Did something change that I have missed?

Seller can use it before buyer does. 2. Buyer can use it and say seller used it before he could. In both cases, a forged proof can be shown. Escrow won't be able to do anything once that happens. It is hard to "successfully" escrow such trades If there is a way to change codes* of a gift card, escrow can do their job successfully. AFAIK, there isn't any such service! Edit: It maybe confusing when I say "change codes". In simple words, redeem gift card send by seller, escrow creates new one and send to buyer. You can't do this with Amazon. Is there any websites which supports this?
If you want to conduct a small transaction and there isn't any escrow, I can do it. For large sums, I am not doing it until my existing issue of Bitcoin/PGP address is solved. You can use my service as a last resort, but I doubt there would be anyone except who knows that I really am MZ, to trust me with large sums.

No so much that a gift card is low cost say a 25 dollar card. But I can list 6 ways for a buyer or seller to cheat with a gift card and as the escrow I am stuck. I prefer a tangible good and if both sides point fingers at each other I can do some research as to which one lies.

Perhaps you should take that into consideration before throwing out unfounded accusations? I reviewed this case and it appears that OgNasty rule 2 which can prevent scams and is needed to be enforced has a secondary flaw. Which may or may not have occurred in this case. As I have enough facts to see problems on both sides were possible. I see that Og has the rule 2 that he enforces to stop scammers and it does stop scammers, but an innocent can get caught up in the rule. This is why I offered to mediate and was turned down. i.e. I thought isoneguy was an innocent victim . I believed my solution would have worked. I understand both parties positions here and this is one of the reasons I won't be doing escrows. Since I do not want to use a rule like ognasty's number 2 but if I fail to enforce a rule like it I can be scammed. I see a flaw in my method that can cause an exploit against me I see a flaw in OgNasty's method that can cause hardship to an innocent person. I will try to develop a better method of escrow. Better then oG's and better then mine. until then I won't escrow anymore. I do have 1 outstanding escrow and will finish that one. If I figure out a new method that protects everyone I will start again. To everyone if you use OG Nasty be sure to fully understand his rule 2. If you do not control the account you send coin and need a refund you may not get it back. To the ignorant if you send from coinbase you may not get a refund. As OgNasty will refund to the btc addy it come from. A coinbase send is not from a btc addy you own or control. so a refund back to it goes to coin bases general accounts since coins= base has many customers it could take weeks to get it transferred to your coin base account.

- snip - I will try to develop a better method of escrow. Better then oG's and better then mine. - snip -
Back when I had the time to handle escrow, my method was: - Generate a unique address for the escrow (do not provide it to the transacting parties yet)
- Ask the paying party to provide a refund address
- Ask the paid party to provide a release address
- Ask either party to provide the terms of the agreement
- Write up an agreement that describes the terms, includes the escrow address, refund address, and release address
- Send the agreement to both parties to be accepted
- Make it clear that escrow should NOT be funded until I acknowledge that BOTH parties have accepted the agreement
- Make it clear that NOTHING should be provided by the paid party until the escrow address has been funded with at least 1 confirmation
Is there a flaw in this method that I'm overlooking?

Is there a flaw in this method that I'm overlooking? The buyer sends to you a refund address that matches his send address and has control of it. The deal dies and the buyer needs a refund. You go to return the to the designated refund address. The buyer lost control of the address. It can happen and be real and legit. What do you the escrow do? If the buyer has a way of proving his identity do you send to a different refund address? I can tell you most USA laws would favor the buyer and the escrow should send the coin to the new address. The case with isoneguy and OgNasty The buyer sends to you a funds with a coinbase address that he does not have control of it. The deal dies and the buyer needs a refund. You go to return the to the designated refund address. The buyer has no control of the address. It can happen and be real and legit. What do you the escrow do? If the buyer has a way of proving his identity do you send to a different refund address? I can tell you most USA laws would favor the buyer and the escrow should send the coin to the new address. This opens up a big can of worms for escrow. I had a looser system then you or OG OG explained the exploit scammers are trying and his rule 2 stops the exploit as does your method. But if shit happens and it does sometimes the buyer can lose control of the refund address. The escrow faces a choice to alter refund address or not. isoneguy did multiple sales with me and I have his home address with my records in this case my mediation would have worked.{i think} But scammers can do a clever long term scam with 3 or 4 legit sales to establish that a shipping address is good. Then create the isoneguy vs OG setup for a large refund say 10-15 coins. So I do understand why OG wants rule 2 to stand . Just like your rules if you enforce them it stops the scam. But it that buyer truly had lost control of an address and can prove it. The escrow agent gets put into a spot. I for one no longer think I can do escrow and fully protect The escrow agent The Buyer The Seller This address is my main address https://blockchain.info/address/1JdC6Xg3ajT3rge3FgPNSYYFpmf53Vbtjeit is a blockchain.info hotwallet I have control of the keys as I imported it from core years ago. I send 50 coins to OG for a large purchase. Someone breaks into my home and gains control of the wallet. The deal falls through I show police reports to OG and other proof of whom I am. OG follows rule 2. Sends to a compromised wallet. I have a court case. change and I did deal with Danny H followed his rules even used my core wallet that has multiple hdd backups. the wallet gets compromised due to a natural disaster. I am in NJ so Hurricane Sandy I proof to Danny this happened he sends to core wallet address effectively burning the money. I take him to court he could lose. So as I see it for now I won't be doing escrow. As I do not have a solution for the issues I see here. Look with isoneguy vs og they both got a bit stubborn (I think) , but frankly I am glad it happened as I see issues in providing escrow I did not see. Possibly I won't ever do escrow again. I do not want to get stuck or have to stick someone.

I never understood why people feel the need of having a stacked address and why it means so much.
For example I installed only at very first touch of bitcoin the qt but i kept it for one day only.
I never signed a message even if I did thousands of transactions over time. I understand the need of a signed message but I don't find it mandatory.
Regarding refund address, for small ammounts I always use poloniex it has only 0.0001 fee so it is perfect for under 0.05 transaction but If i send this ammount to ognasty and the deal with the buyer dissapear where will do the refund?
I was always afraid of this kind of moments. I think it happend one or two years ago and as escrow I used Dabs.
Since that moment the only escrow that I am accepting is bitrated.com . Simple and efficient.

Interesting. I'm glad I got out of handling escrow when I did. After reading your example, I can see how it would be an interesting court case if there was effectively a contract that says to send to a particular address, and then before release of escrow a buyer claims that he no longer has exclusive control of that address. I'm glad I never encountered that. I suppose as long as both parties agreed, it would be safe to modify the refund address. However, if the selling party disappears it might become impossible to get their agreement. Another option might be to state in the agreement that the refund will be sent to any address requested by the buyer once the refund conditions have been met. As long as you can confirm that the person providing the refund address is the same person that agreed to the buyer side of the agreement, that might work properly?

Yeah I have to ponder this as I do escrow to grease the wheels of cryptocoins more then making profit. I am USA based and this new scam as described to me by OG and his method to prevent it opens up these other issues. At times I do 10000 dollar plus escrows.. making 100 bucks or so at my 1% rate. I do not need to do a 35000 dollar escrow and have this happen to me. All for the sake of making 1% say 350 usd. I also do not need to have to follow a locked in refund address and get sued for doing so As I burn the buyer by insisting to send to the fixed refund address. I am going to look this over a bit more. Before I figure what to do.

The only thing you can do that would be legal, in that case, would be to abide by your contract. There is no fault in following the contract through, even if it means the coins are lost forever. Everybody knew the deal when they signed it, and just because some freak accidents happened doesn't mean you get to break the contract and open yourself up for a lawsuit. To avoid that you could have them provide multiple addresses for refund. Why does there only need to be one address?
That being said it's unfortunate a lot of people doing escrow are not feeling up to it anymore. It's really hard to use crypto for peer to peer trades. Nobody is protected unless there is an escrow.

IMO that's the best approach to follow while doing your deals. You can even demand/insist that customer must use (or at least be fully aware of) addresses wich he or she controls the private keys himself/herself (so no exchanges' addresses should be allowed).

If you would send coins to an address when seller or buyer told you upfront this address can not be trusted anymore or is invalid then this might serve as a reason to sue if you still sent even being warned. For big amounts it might make sense to send a small testtransaction to check out if the receiver really is the person you initiated the deal with. Wait some time to see if the real person intervenes and just then release the whole transaction. Good posts lately. Made me thinking and revising my escrow details. @philipma1957 What was the scam method happening. It sounds like I might know it but I'm not sure. Is there a link with full description?

buyer a seller b are the same person
buyer a sends coins with addy 12345
deal dies
buyer a says addy 12345 is not good asks for refund to addy 12346
seller never answers so you decide to refund to addy 12346
buyer a comes back says account was hacked you refunded to wrong addy
ogNasty has his I only refund to send addy rule it stops this scam.
But in the isoneguy case he did not have access to the send address and he can prove it is still him. they should have mediated with me.
I looked at it and see both points of view but losing a controlled btc addy can happen and if it does ogNasty's rule does not protect the escrow if he insists on burning the coins by sending to a dead account.
For instance your home and core wallet floods out no core the hdd store in a local bank was also flooded. refund is sent to a dead addy.
or I die (it will happen) wife proves I am dead and she does not have password to the core but has access to say coinbase.
Escrow sends to core money = dead wife sues escrow.
So if I the escrow act with the rule
send address must be refund address I am thinking of a few cases that I can be sued.
I am working on a modification to that rule.
that protects : 1)escrow 2)buyer 3)seller

Was the buyer really hacked? In any case, there is not really something that can be done except providing a further safety level like asking the buyer for a refund address before the deal start. Like Danny suggested. Or buyer and or seller provides a signature or a pgp key that can be used in case a refund has to happen. Besides that... escrow would have to trust on the identity of the user. User has to make sure that his account is safe and not hacked. Escrow otherwise has to assume that he still deals with the same person. With bigger amounts it might help to send a small amount first. I had it happen that someone got hacked. Not sure if one of the users was the hacker or if it was a third party. Hacker had access to the sellers account and changed the receiving address. I asked back 2 times and always only received the answer that it is alright and the right address. It turned out that the hacker, if it was so, deleted fast every incoming pm I sent to the seller and answered to me. Then deleted it from outbox also. Seller did not receive a notice about what went on. Probably didn't check email or hacker also deactivated email for new pm's. Not sure anymore. In any case it is hard to protect against. At some level you have to trust that you still deal with the same person and the trader has to protect his account.

Please ALWAYS contact me through bitcointalk pm before sending someone coins.

I'm in the process of handling a $100k USD escrow. But, as I have stated many times, it's not the fiat value, it's the bitcoin that matters. I'm also chomping it into smaller portions over the course of several days.
If the transaction is simple, I usually accept. If it looks too complicated, or I can't see how I can verify either end, I just refuse and refer them to anyone else listed on this thread.
And if it's multi-sig, ... me and Seb have done a few together.
Danny's description seems to be a good one for a proper escrow process. I'd add that for high value (or perceived high value) transactions, I would require users to know how to sign bitcoin messages and GPG/PGP messages.
When you're about to leak NSA secrets to the press, ... PGP was required (and a flight to Honk Kong.)

Just take a look at my last update: The reason is: you never reply my PMs (the last one I sent you in August 03, 2017, 01:53:51 AM)... ...but lets try once more. If you wanna apply for this list, please post here (or send me PM with) the following info: 1) Which cryptocurrencies do you work with? 2) Minimum and Maximum amount of coins allowed/accepted while using your escrow service (in BTC or USD); 3) Your fees; 4) Do you work with PGP signed messages OR signed messages from an already staked* cryptocurrency's address? « UPDATE »Recent changes: ↑ Mitchell has joined the Crypto Escrow Team; ↑ ranochigo has joined as Escrow Provider. List and all scores updated... P.S. I've noticed the overall score and trust points have decreased and some escrow providers have been downgraded as result. Has anything changed related to the forum's trust mechanism?

It has not. Some members got booted from DT since your last update, and some negative ratings were thrown around. It was much worse a while back.

What I saw there was an endless discussion and lack of undeniable proofs and evidences. As mentioned by Shorena, It really seems that Lauda commited some mistake but IMO nothing that really leads to a permanent ban as an escrow provider here though (i.e. no clients' funds stolen)... ...your trust score doesn't help either. You're free to bring us some more facts if you wish.

-snip- ...your trust score doesn't help either. You're free to bring us some more facts if you wish. The user is a butthurt shill from some project that cryptodevil stumbled upon then exposed. Any such, hypocritical and biased outbursts seeking revenge can't be taken seriously. Regarding my escrowing services, they were almost non-existent before that sting operation with the first major ones happening months after. It absolutely does not have any impact on that, nor does anyone who has/is/is planning to work with me care about that, largely falsified, thread.

Then you'll be doing it for the wrong reason. The point of an escrow provider should be to help securing transactions/dealings between involved parties (not for a way to earn few extra bucks).

You need to be trustworthy and good at securing and handling large quantities of money. You're likely neither.

"earning a few extra bucks" is a side effect of helping secure transactions/dealings, it's not the main goal or target. A lot of us do escrows for tips or negligible amounts. Some do it for free.

I really wanted to join to earn extra income.
I would NEVER trust any escrow provider that was doing it for the purpose of "earning some extra income". There will always come a time when it will become more profitable to steal the bitcoins you are entrusted with than to continue to operate the service. If you are only doing it for the money, then that incentive and temptation will become a problem. I would ONLY trust an escrow that had established a significant history of honest, trustworthy, honorable, and fair behavior in all of their public and private interactions.

Well, given that the fee is often 1% (if not lower) and given the mentioned reasoning, I think the individual would be tempted when escrowing almost any kind of *non trivial* (of which the definition will be quite different depending who you ask). I would ONLY trust an escrow that had established a significant history of honest, trustworthy, honorable, and fair behavior in all of their public and private interactions.
Correct. If only everyone had a similar mindset, plenty of scams could have been avoided.

Hi guys. I am very new to this concept. I have a deal coming up with someone wanting to sell me some alt coins he doesnt want in exchange for €150,- worth of ETH.
Now, I don't know the guy, I've never met him and I met him on another forum (from a trading platform). Ofcourse I am more than willing to pay him the ETH..
But how do I approach this so we can both be sure we get what we payed for from eachother without 1 having to make the first step in 100% good faith? How do I go about escrow? Have absolutely zero experience in this, so I am asking for your help.

Choose some reputed escrow provider from the list and ask him or her how to proceed. I'm sure him or her will guide you accordingly. P.S. I'm gonna update the list soon...

« UPDATE »Recent changes: ↑ Blazr is the newcomer. Welcome to the list! Merit points are now considered for the purpose of this list's overall score. Calculation modified in order to reflect the changes. Whole list updated and all scores upgraded as well. Maybe I checked the first post in a long time not anymore, where did the table gone? It seems to be an alphabetical list only now. I still see the table?
Side note: Perhaps add my escrow service? Link here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2724325.msg27877712#msg27877712

I (and I guess others too) can see the table (which is an image file) without any problem right now. Current version url: https://i.imgur.com/3QBQsrQ.pngP.S. If anyone is getting problem viewing that image just refresh the page. If that's not enough please let me know.

There was a bug (2 months ago) that disabled images to show normally. theymos fixed it but still from time to time, some of the images aren't shown normally. P.S. If anyone is getting problem viewing that image just refresh the page. If that's not enough please let me know.
Refreshing the page will do the trick.

I just forgot to mention that I'll always post the table's image url every time I update the numbers just like I did here: P.S. It's written right below the table (see OP). So if you cannot view the image here (maybe something is blocking it) just open that link in a new tab/window.

Not sure how long the 'ALT' message can be. But, I hope this will help you out.

Paxful provides escrow as well. Their customer service is also 24/7.
This thread, is meant for bitcointalk's escrow providers (only).
To OP: Unfortunately, "philipma1957" posted the following comment few days ago (whenever you'll be doing the next update, have this in mind as well): I have been asked to end my escrow services.
So I regret to ask but please remove me from escrow listing.

Hello, I’m a new member and looking for mostly for bulk Ebay gift cards through a secure escrow. Please help me pointing out someone doing escrow for digital goods especially EBay e-Gift cards. Thank you very much Hello my friend, Escrow providers in "cryptoland" tend not to work with stuff that might suffer from chargeback/expiration/invalidation or anything like that. Nevertheless I suggest that you approach each person from this list individually and ask if it's possible though...

Still in top 5 ... I liked my rating last time. I'd like to point out that 5/6th of your positive DT feedback is based on Trust selfscratching. Without this, your 10.9 Score would drop to 7.6, which mean you'd share Rank 11 and 12 instead of 5. It doesn't seem right to use the Trust rating you've inflated by yourself to increase your Grade from A to AA. @Financisto: I've only looked at one account because I noticed Dabs' post. It would be really nice if you can adjust all grades for the effect of "Trust selfscratching".

Hi I need escrow service to sell BTC for USD. Could anyone suggest an escrow? Thank you.
Instead of asking for someone else's suggestion, I would advise going over the " ★ Members ★" area and read each of the escrow providers respective threads [in order to see if they handle such deals]. - Make sure to also check the trust section in their profiles [both Trusted/Untrusted feedback seections].

This topic needs some more updates. Some of the users mentioned in OP should be removed, while others should be added. Lutpin should be removed as I didn't see any topic where he announced that he is offering escrow services. The same applies for the other users with no ANN threads - Seccour, starsoccer9 and silent17. How do you know they offer escrow if they have no related threads? bittawm's ANN thread is missing from OP; here it is: Bittawms Legendary Escrow Service - 0.9% BTC. However, the user was banned in the past, according to LoyceV: He was later unbanned, but I don't know if an ex-banned user can be considered reliable for acting as escrow. Hhampuz should be added: Hhampuz Campaign Management & Escrow Service | Available!. yogg should also be added: [ESCROW] 🌠 yogg's escrow service ⭐ BTC & Alts ⭐ Fast ⭐ Reliable ⭐ Secure 🌠. Other users from OP should be asked if they are willing to offer escrow services anymore. One example is John K., which is mostly inactive for months. But the other users should be also asked if their services are still operational. Maybe some retired...

Hi GazetaBitcoin,
A broader list update is scheduled for the beginning of 2021.
Any old escrow providers that have not logged in the last months (and not replied my PMs) and those that haven't posted their "escrow announcement thread or website" will be delisted.
Considering those escrow providers that you recommended, I'm getting in touch with them in order to ask if they wish to join the list.
Thanks for your considerations. I really appreciate that.
Cheers!

Whole list updated and all scores upgraded as usual.
I went over the list quickly and it looks like apart from me, OgNasty's minimum fee isn't also accurate [both of us have updated our fees recently]... - Kindly include our updated fee structures whenever you'll be adding back the temporarily suspended users to the list - Btw, thank you for continuous updates.Wonderful year for everyone! Unfortunately, OP has not been active for 2+ months, some more updates are needed. I would add that bL4nkcode should be removed from this list, he is also inactive after the fiasco escrow Bitcointalk Charity and its funds

Unfortunately, OP has not been active for 2+ months, some more updates are needed. I also noticed that and same things happened with the author of the other escrow providers thread. As this situation should be changed, I decided to create a new and updated escrow providers topic and, in order to do this I contacted all escrow providers mentioned in these two threads (obviously, without going to mention / contact the scammers). In the PM I sent I asked them if they are still willing to act as escrows and, if so, to let me know if anything changed regarding their terms. At the moment I am still waiting for replies to my PM and I am willing to wait for a month at max. If some will not reply even by then I will not mention them anymore, as (1) I will not know if they still want to act as escrows and (2) I don't believe they deserve to be listed (if you can't reply to a PM during a month then how can you act as escrow, considering that an escrow should always be there for clients?). Therefore, having in mind that I sent the PM on Jan 19th, I estimate that the new topic will be ready by Feb 19th. I hope this helps.

If you wanna apply for this list, please post here (or send me PM with) the following info With all due respect, I was already added to a escrow providers list, which is also updated with lattest news about each escrow of the forum which still offers this kind of service. I am sorry, OP, but this topic is obsolete and it contains a lot of inaccurate information. Unless you decide to be more active on the forum and put some (serious) efforts in keeping the topic updated and accurate I will not wish to be listed here.

Please let me know if you still want to be on the list and update any item from the data shown above. I also sent PM to all current list participants. I'll be waiting for your reply (for the following few weeks before I update the list once more)... Best regards.

I also sent PM to all current list participants.
I'll be waiting for your reply (for the following few weeks before I update the list once more)... I did the same since January. More than half never replied until today... This is why I said there is a big amount of work needed to updating the thread and also for keeping it constantly updated... I'll keep an eye on the changes though

Thank you for this update, OP. Please be aware that Dabs is in situation which can be called at least to be delicate. 1. He has an active loan of 15.000$ since November 2022, which is not paid back yet. 2. He begs for money from various users. 3. I sent him a PM in January, asking him if he still offers escrow services but he never replied. 4. He did not update his thread for 10 years. Having that said, I believe that using him as an escrow represents a high risk for anyone involved.

Great job with the last update, OP! However, the real reason for removing Dabs should not be the fact that he said he is not offering escrow services anymore, unless someone specifically request for him.
The true reason for his removal should be related to the fact that he is "busy with other things going on right now". Among others, as I already explained above, Dabs is in a very deep debt, which totally not recommends him for being an escrow. Needless to mention, begging for money from other users does not offer him any credibility as an escrow.
