As some of you may know, mtrlt stepped up to make a GPU miner for PrimeCoin by creating a thread announcing that he will work on a GPU miner, in which he put a "Donation address" "that will also get you early private beta access to the miner". [1][4]It has now been one month and three days since he created the thread [1], he has 75 of our BTC[2], and his last update of any sort was given out on August 14, 2013, 07:10:25 PM, Six days, and 20 hours ago. [3]We still have no GPU Miner.[1] We might have been BFL'd. [No citation needed] Since he was accepting "Donations", it means that he technically CAN legally run away with the BTC, AND the GPU miner and we would have absolutely nothing to prosecute him in court with. Although I am doubtful he will do this. It is possible that he is mining with his GPU miner for a long while, stashing large amounts of coins to then dump, and THEN maybe release the GPU miner. It is also possible that he had a heart attack and died mysteriously. Or maybe there never existed a GPU miner to begin with? I place no opinion on this subject. Just being objective here. I am just making this information clearly available and understandable to the public. You decide on how you feel about this situation. Good question. The same situation applies to the BitSpend situation. It's perfectly possible the for a scammer to not think things through, or maybe a scammer would want quick, easy money. Who knows.

Okay, just being silly now. That IS a possibility. But how likely is it that he has not regained access to his account after so much time?

For what's it worth... Mtrlt is very talented developer, clearly capable of creating GPU miner for Primecoin. I used cgminer as a host for my Copperlark mining kernel, for Quark miner and upcoming Primecoin one I use reaper. (cgminer is more powerful, but reaper is much, much more flexible) So the right question would be "How we can be sure that Mtrlt is alive and out of troubles".
|
Of course I gave you bad advice. Good one is way out of your price range.

Oh for shit's sake, put away your pitchforks and get off your high horses. This amount of kicking and screaming contributes nothing.
If you were scammed and mtrlt never comes back, just cut your losses and move on. You won't be getting your coins back. If mtrlt does release a beta to everybody who donated, all of you personally owe him an apology.
Bitching and moaning contributes to neither of these ends, so they should be put to a stop.

I think he is still working or already reaping the reward of his miner. Even if he scammed us for 75 btc, which I doubt, he deserves the donation for his previous work on Reaper mining client. I doubt any significant number of Reaper users ever sent him any donation. And I'm pretty sure mtrtl on this forum is the same guy who created the Reaper. Even RealSolid said so..

Lol bro give me credit and pay me money Anyways. I know that the guy is capable of making the mining client. Much in the same way BitSpend was capable of properly processing orders and BFL was capable of shipping a couple of miners. That doesn't automatically equate to legitimacy. This could orchestrate a perfect scam. Gain trust doing legitimate work, then use the trust to steal. Just sayin.

I'm not going to speculate on what mtlrt has/is or has/is not doing but one thing is clear: He is a terrible communicator. When people invest that much money spending a few minutes a day writing short but non trivial updates is a no brainer. It's not that hard to put out "Made some progress, x is now working but I not have challenge y to overcome. I expect y to take a-b days." or "I will not be able to work on it the next few days because of personal reasons, will post update in c days."

Isn't this like the third or fourth thread you've created on this subject? How do you get he scammed you? Did he give a date of delivery? Prosecute him? Seriously? Are you retarded? Furthermore you have given absolutely zero proof you donated anything in the first place. ~BCX~ 1. First thread, the other thread was related but it was not this subject. 2. I did not say he scammed me. 3. I am speaking hypothetically. 4. I never said that I donated anything. I am just a reporter, reporting the facts.

I still believe that Mtrlt does and didn't intend to scam you out of your money and will give you an update soon. However, I'm not sure if a fast GPU miner for primecoins is feasible at all: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=279194.msg2983323#msg2983323Edit: Moved my lengthly explanation into its own thread.

So he hasn't posted an update in less than a week and you're ready to bring out the pitchforks?
Slow your roll. At least give him.... one whole week.

Reporting facts is called bitching? And bringing pitchforks?
C'mon.
Stop crying.
I expressed no opinions. Simply reported facts. Whether or not it is good or bad - you decide. Only you.
