As some of you may know, mtrlt stepped up to make a GPU miner for PrimeCoin by creating a thread announcing that he will work on a GPU miner, in which he put a "Donation address" "that will also get you early private beta access to the miner". [1][4]

It has now been one month and three days since he created the thread [1], he has 75 of our BTC[2], and his last update of any sort was given out on August 14, 2013, 07:10:25 PM, Six days, and 20 hours ago. [3]

We still have no GPU Miner.[1] We might have been BFL'd. [No citation needed]

Since he was accepting "Donations", it means that he technically CAN legally run away with the BTC, AND the GPU miner and we would have absolutely nothing to prosecute him in court with. Although I am doubtful he will do this. It is possible that he is mining with his GPU miner for a long while, stashing large amounts of coins to then dump, and THEN maybe release the GPU miner. It is also possible that he had a heart attack and died mysteriously. Or maybe there never existed a GPU miner to begin with?

I place no opinion on this subject. Just being objective here. I am just making this information clearly available and understandable to the public.

You decide on how you feel about this situation.

You're welcome.

Isn't this like the third or fourth thread you've created on this subject?

How do you get he scammed you? Did he give a date of delivery?

Prosecute him? Seriously? Are you retarded?

Furthermore you have given absolutely zero proof you donated anything in the first place.

~BCX~

1. First thread, the other thread was related but it was not this subject.
2. I did not say he scammed me.    { Read again the title of your thread " What happened to mtrlt? Did he just scam US of 75 BTC" }
3. I am speaking hypothetically.
4. I never said that I donated anything. I am just a reporter, reporting the facts.

Why would he scam people and ruin his ability to potentially make millions of dollars to make a few thousand?

The first block was there already last week, the others were added between end of last week and now. I guess that's mtrlt testing, because if this is truly the only blocks mined with his GPU miner, it's nothing.

People should stop shouting scammer all the time in these forums. Development is not always straight-forward, and some people have a live as well.

Realize that this text can be inserted by absolutely anybody with their own regular CPU miner. This is not sufficient evidence to base any trust on.

Furthermore, I have not shouted "scammer". I asked the question, and gave it no answer.

You seem to have an agenda, this is your third thread on this subject.

~BCX~

Or he genuinely believes there is cause for concern. You always assume the worst.

Exactly.

If Mr. Mtrlt ends up being a scammer, it does not affect me in any way shape or form. I'm not trying to rip any BTC back outa him cause I didn't give him any BTC.

I found nobody else making a thread clearing up the information, so I created one, for the better of the community.

Seems like people just can't handle the truth, maybe in fear of Mr. Mtrlt actually having scammed people, resulting in a loss of their own profits.

List me this mysterious second thread that I have created on this subject. I do have memory loss problems but I'm pretty sure I can remember creating so many other threads about the same thing. Tongue The only one I remember was of a related subject, but not of this specific subject.

Well, my impression from mtrlt's postings is that
a) it's a lot more difficult than he thought
b) his real life suddenly altered, leaving him little time for coding or posting
c) he may have got some working code, but it's a lot slower than CPU mining

Would the donators be happy to get the hypothetical code from c)?

If this is the case, he certainly should be announcing it to make it clear to everyone, rather than leave us with uncertainty, where all we can do is speculate.

Sure. Might have been part of the "download mtrlt's miner for 2BTC" scam that was floating around the forum, for example.

Has anyone observed a spike in difficulty? There was a nice chart somewhere to be found, but I can't remember the URL.

A bit more on-topic: can anyone that donated >1BTC confirm that they haven't received the beta of the miner yet?

Perhaps this could end up in a BFL style situation.

I suspect mtrlt is finding it more challenging than he originally anticipated to construct a GPU miner which offers superior performance.

This is one of the situations I speculated about in my original post. I think that it is likely that mtrlt is not technically scamming, although still providing a very unsatisfactory result with the money he has been given. Reason or intent is unknown.

What if he turns around and says 'Sorry guys it was too hard for me to implement, I hit a brick wall and have given up. But I am still keeping the donations because I put all the time and effort in trying to do it and time is money'.

That is also a possibility. I knew that it was a bad idea to donate from the start, as situations like these are painfully possible.

I don't know about everyone, but 75BTC is like 3 months worth of pay cheque in my country.

Yes. Of course. But this depends what the pay check is for. Hourly wages are not determined by the strength of effort or whatnot. They are determined by their rareness.

Surely we all know what gives any given thing it's value. Everyone here must be an economics nerd since it heavily applies to bitcoin. Quantity and total market size determines value.

A similar situation applies to the hourly wage of a job.

Reason why mr. mtrlt would legitimately earn so much money if not more with such a job is because, very simply, not a lot of other people can do it. Capitalism takes place. Bam. 55 dollars an hour for the job. Or more in the commercial world. Why? Good luck finding someone else to do it for you cheaper. Tongue

It's normal.

Specific programming jobs like the one Mr. Mtrlt would be doing (provided he is not a scammer) are always very high paying. It's not a surprise.

Anyways. In the US, going by the federal minimum wage of just over 1000 USD, 75 BTC would be between 5-10 months of work, depending on the hours served. Gross numbers.
