I would refer to you to invest on bitcoin since the current price of bitcoin is low than it is used to be like around 14-16k usd. And as you said youre planning to hold until next year 2019 so i think with bitcoin's potential in is capable to increase its price by many times, also you can try investing to other potential coins like Ethereum, Carnado and Ripple. There are alot of Coins that has really potential in the future. So becareful on where you will invest and be wise.

Turning 5K to 500K is a bit lofty at this point. Unless you hit couple of good ico's this year or managed to pick a few winners from the undervalued coin stack. Even if you had picked up ETH at $12.5 at the beginning of 2017 with 5k, that would've given you 400 ETH and right now you would still be shy of 500K with the current ETH price.

Not saying it is impossible. With crypto, you have a better chance than any other asset class at this point.

Probably stick with few solid coins first and see how that goes. My feeling is that 2018 will be a roller coaster year with even greater vega than 2017. Good luck!

I advise you to buy/invest in Bitcoin cause it easy to trade to any coin, it's the one the most old that I can remember since IAM join into trade by knowing btc(bitcoin) and one of the most can trust  fenomal coin in the coin trade marker in the world since joining Trading.

Most of the coins are crashing or decreasing this month so likely it will continue this scenario up to February because of the price correction and a lot of people are selling their coins for whatever their reason, it is the start of the year so expect for the dumps and Fuds that is spreading, you can add some rants and impossible speculations so this is the right time to buy some coins most probably you can choose some top coins spread them even for tokens. The best basic startup is btc and eth.

With 5k as a investment fund, you wont be able to buy significant amounts of coins so I think there is a need to split your portfolio into 2 parts.
The first part should be a top 10 token like NEO or ETH. While the second part can be a variety of ICO or altcoins that has a small cap.

For example, you can consider looking at XSpec which is a privacy coin that has better stealth tech than all the privacy coins out there. It is still very cheap and you can buy it at cryptopia

For ICO, you can look at ICOs that are working on smart contracts blockchain like ArcBlock.

Split your ICO funds into 3 parts and invest into 3 good ICOs. Do your research before investing.

All coins are dropping right now so it is the right time to buy. No matter what coin you buy, my advice would be to buy in steps, don't buy using the 5K in one fell swoop. Buy in steps because the price may fall further, and you will feel sad if you buy in using all your money at a higher price.

Better do that, invest with known quality alts and look for long term, as value will grow from time to time just need enough patience to wait
5k$ would be a good start and after that invest more little by little with other crypto so if you think eth will be the best one for you better to
understand those factors that will affect the value, and if you are also  a risky person then buy some ico and wait for progress.

It is not a high amount of money, so do not try to diversify it between a lot of altcoins since it is a waste of time. Buy at least 3 or 4, with this, you can make a good profit.
And no, making $500,000 with $5000 is impossible. I really hope you to lose everything because of that greedy.

Your target is quite ambitious. You'll need to gain 30% monthly in order to get from 5K to 500K in 18 months. This means you'll have to risk more - forget about bitcoin, ether or any other top 100 token. Put all of your money in 2 to 5 ICOs. Be patient and wait till ico tokens hit major exchanges. Then sell at 3x - 5x and invest in other ICOs.

Top 10 coins are usually good investment coins, but don't expect it to multiply in value in short time frame. Also, these coins will fluctuate a lot in value, so be prepared to hold it for a long time and ignore short term volatility.

If this is not your last money, then you can buy bitcoin or ethereum for a long term, and a little bit of altcoin for trading. And soon you will increase your investments.

5K to 500K is definately a hard job. I doubt this cannot be achieved by majority of the people. If you want 100X return in a year then you must look out for high risk and high reward opportunities. ICOs are best suited for these. Find 3-4 potentially good upcoming ICOs and invest in them (no need to be proportional), after investing watch charts, if your investment is already multiple X's then take out your initial investment so you can rinse and repeat.
