Facebook is banning all ads that promote cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, in an effort to prevent people from advertising what the company is calling “financial products and services frequently associated with misleading or deceptive promotional practices.” That means no advertiser — even those that operate legal, legitimate businesses — will be able to promote things like bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, initial coin offerings — ICOs for short — or binary options, according to a Facebook blog post. https://www.recode.net/2018/1/30/16950926/facebook-mark-zuckerberg-bans-crypto-advertising-bitcoin-james-altucher

The possibility that such ads are forbidden by facebook may fear that later will be on the block and the negative impact to the media, so it is for me just a suggestion or news which has not been certainly apply by Facebook.

This policy is intentionally broad while we work to better detect deceptive and misleading advertising practices, and enforcement will begin to ramp up across our platforms. Facebook has issued an outright ban. As of a new ruling issued on January 30, “ads must not promote financial products and services that are frequently associated with misleading or deceptive promotional practices, such as binary options, initial coin offerings, or cryptocurrency”. 29. Prohibited Financial Products and Services Policy Ads must not promote financial products and services that are frequently associated with misleading or deceptive promotional practices, such as binary options, initial coin offerings, or cryptocurrency. Examples: “Start binary options trading now and receive a 10-risk free trades bonus!” “Click here to learn more about our no-risk cryptocurrency that enables instant payments to anyone in the world.” “New ICO! Buy tokens at a 15% discount NOW!” “Use your retirement funds to buy Bitcoin!” https://web.facebook.com/policies/ads/prohibited_content/prohibited_financial_products_and_services

Facebook bounties should not be effected very much by this so it should not be a huge issue for people on this forum. Plus, many people were being scammed by shitcoins and therefore the ban needed to be implemented to save crypto from getting an even worse rep than it currently has.

I don't think that this is much to worry about. It will all settle and besides there will always be ways around this stuff. Facebook just doesn't want to promote scams. Which is understandable! I'm more concerned about the audit situation with tether.

However, I do not exactly think thay facebook is aiming to ban such activities; I think that they are just limiting unwanted and trash contents filling their system, after all, the promotions brought about by the ICOs are still traffic they can exploit.

A big step against crypto currencies again, Wonder what caused them to take this extreme step, before this they were implementing accepting litecoins as a payment system.

In my opinion, this is due to the fact that a lot of ICOs that people advertised were fraud and people complained, so now they will filter out the advertising of various projects

I think that too, same as Chinese government banned ICO's to protect its citizens. I don't think there is any bad intention.

I didn't see this coming because Facebook never usually turns down a quick bit of cash on a fad. Honestly it won't impact too much because you can just create good content to be shared by bounty campaigns or shared in groups.
Just really shooting themselves in the foot and losing some revenue. Personally I just think it is a marketing campaign to seem more moral after the whole Russia election scandal.
Seems Facebook is deciding to grow a moral backbone all of a sudden...

very unconvincing because I see facebook itself has long been employed in terms of crypto problems and it is in my opinion reasonable to bid.

who gives a shit what facebook does and does not do.
the average person on face book that has not heard of bitcoin and has not already looked into crypto is probably worth about zero in investment terms
facebook is demonstrating what a pile of centralised shit it is and soon to be overtaken and demolished by decentralised social networks
not to mention this news has been the seed for 50x of this same thread since yesterday

What exact social networks do you mean? What the point in "decentralized" social network in compare to centralized one? I don't think the Facebook going to be overtaken by anybody in nearest future.

I think facebook doesn't allow medium post again too. this is bad.

This is a side effect of poor/scam/fraud ICO/ITOs.
It needs to be remedied -- this is the single biggest thing I hear when I talk to people who follow the crypto market from "the other side" (investment banking community).
And I have to agree with them, there's too much low-quality stuff out there.
We will fix this problem, though.
Best regards, Ben

Ya, Facebook banned fake ICOs who are running there promotion campaign on social media platform. They say if the contents of ICO are against our rules & regulations and could be spam then we banned them immediately. But those ICOs who follow our rules and have genuineness, then there is no problem. I think this is a good step to save peoples by fraud.

I already mentioned that i don't agree with that this new policy about ICO adverts, but there is a big plus in this decision for another platforms for ICO promo including our favorite - bitcointalk.org

This is not filtered in all the shit ICOs because many good ICOs also available in the market so both are affected in same time it is little sad news in many investors. I am also worried about the cryptocurrency advertisement banned in Facebook because it is easy to gain some knowledge in upcoming coins.
