I find them unreadable and annoying, and I just close the thread when I see one. I think they are unfair to posters who follow the killer post.
If you need to create one, then please post a link to the image, and don't embed the image itself.

Can you clarify whether you are referring to threads that have started with an infographic or replies to other threads that are embedding the graphic?   ... And you surely can't be referring to my infographic, which I believe to be quite readable and not annoying, albeit boring. Smiley

I don't know which ones they are, as I have never stopped to read one. I fail to see why one needs a massive image to state a few lines of text. They just kill the thread for me, and I wonder how many people actually read them. It's also a waste of bandwidth, and slow down the thread loading. If you can't read joining up writing, and you need an infographic, then you could pull it down by clicking a link. That would be better than imposing an oversized image on most thread readers in my opinion.

One person did one, and got a lot of merits.  So of course the copy cats followed.  :/

I spend far too much time on the boards, and anything that increases this without adding value tends to be annoying for me. Other members may not find it a problem, but I think it is inconsiderate, and it doesn't really add value to the thread. If someone creates an infographic, and warns readers in the title, then that is fine, but embedding it in an otherwise useful thread is just selfish and destructive in my opinion.

I'd think there is a group of people that want to see a graphic with information as opposed to a wall of text. In the end, theymos requested an infographic, so I have to assume there was or is a potential need for one.

So who is the first person that got all of the merits?... I don't believe it was me so I need to know if I am considered a copy cat now for trying to help?  Huh

Can't argue with the clogging up of threads/bandwidth issues so I'm all for just posting a link inside of the thread, as I have done once with mine in a prior post. Embedding should not be needed in those situations.

Looks like you were second.  So yes, you are a copy cat, but you only copied one person.  Smiley   Don't read too much into my comments, friend.  Smiley

Who created the first one on merit? I've only seen the one from 8Habit. It's great, by the way, a very helpful resource to put on ever Newbie's thread in Beginners & Help asking "How do I get Merit?", "What is Merit?", "Do I need Merit?"

To Jet Cash's comment/point, yeah the infographics can be distracting but at least it's better than giant images that are just sarcastic responses or a meme. If we educate the newbies we'll have a better chance of reducing the spam threads in the future, no?

I think Jet Cash is referring to the increasing prevalence of infographics in threads such as signature campaigns and other announcements. I agree with you, they have become quite annoying, as they can sometimes take quite a while to load when it's a large thread. I don't see a problem with infographics about the merit system, since those are always clearly marked in the post title for what they are.

OK, I've solved the problem. If I get hit by a giant infographic or image, then I just ignore the poster, and reload the thread. Smiley

So no sMerits from me I'm afraid.

I read very closely into most of your comments, you generally have useful (and sometimes humorous) things to say. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't being misunderstood with the intentions I had when creating an infographic, and to make sure I wasn't annoying anyone by embedding the image in my original thread, which it seems like most are fine with.

Besides, it was supposed to be an infographic explaining activity & merit, not just merit, so I think I was the first *correct* infographic, based on the request. Anything not honoring the original request can safely be ignored. Wink

Nah, I wasn't complaining that people were creating infographics.... I was just pointing out that one person made one and then many others did too.  Just like one person made a comment about merit, received merit, so everyone started making comments about merit.

You may have made your infographic before seeing the other ones.  I don't know.  I was just speaking casually.  Smiley

Where are you seeing them? I doubt that they're so prevalent that they genuinely take away from your forum experience. I have yet to see one outside of a few meta threads about merit, and most of them have 'infographic' in the title.

Why users should need to post link to the image instead of embeding it? Just because you don't like? If users would post only link to image, then we would be forced to open 3rd party websites in order to view an image. It doesn't sounds good.
I'm seeing only one annoying thing in this case - people quoting original post without snipping the image.

Because people posting full page images are really annoying, and break up the flow of the thread. There are obvious exceptions. Cartoons and product images are a couple, but a double screen sized picture of a bunch of text lines doesn't help viewers in my opinion. I read text, and not pictures of oversized text.

However, it is no longer a problem for me. I've started to ignore members embedding infographics images, so that has solved the problem. It's now the choice of the poster to decide on the embedding.

If you need to create one, then please post a link to the image, and don't embed the image itself.

This kind of defeats the purpose of them in my opinion. I would rather be able to see the image and immediately know whether it's is helpful or not than have to click on it and find out. I'm sure there are plugins to disable images etc.

I think this is just down to personal opinion and preference. I would actually rather see a nicely presented infographic than walls and walls of ugly text, especially regarding ICOs etc. They can often get to the point succinctly and look more professional (providing they're done right).

I agree that it should be a matter of choice. Posting a link to a large infographic, or including an alert in the thread title, gives the reader a choice. Embedding an over-sized image only gives the reader one choice if he doesn't want to see it - ignore the poster.
