Does investing into crypto mining count as a long term investment ?  Anyhows, my latest "investment"/portfolio addition was some LYMs from Lympo ICO. Will see how it does when it hits exchanges. |

For long term investment i suggest you to wait for bitcoin price to touch around 8k -9k levels.
Than you can buy top 5 altcoins and also hold same amount of bitcoin. Don't buy all them in one day wait for price stabilization.
To invest in bitcoins then your 1st statement is right but if you want to invest in altcoins then now it is a good time. the BTC price is bit high so you will get more altcoins. for longterm investment better buy low value and high potential coins like NEM, ADA and other coins. |

If we consider long-term investments, then only bitcoin is suitable for this. I have not yet met much people who have managed to earn on altcoins with long-term investments. |

If you are looking to made a long term investment, it would be better to invest into bitcoin and the most popular altcoins among traders as the values of these crypto-currencies is much more stable in the trading market, you could look into Ethereum, Litecoin, Monero and Zcash for altcoins investment in the long term.

I think your first choice is that Top 10 alts in the market especallly BTC, which means they are more stable than other alts and traders would prefer investing them other than any other alts. Also, the price is not so high that you can buy some of them as a long term investment such as BTC, ETH, ADA, LTC etc.

Try NEO. I've heard the rumors that Chinese government is gonna launch their cryptocurrency to beat bitcoin. It might be NEO or if it don't it will grow anyway

That all depends what is long term for you,if you are in for it few years then there is only one choice-bitcoin.Bitcoin have a lot of good stuff coming in that will make 99% of current altcoins obsolete,things like lighting network atomic swaps smart conntracts among others

I really like Monero, I think they are preparing something really nice. and I think a really good project for the long term is monero, I'm also considering litecoin as optional |
