so... all those crappy websites (monerov.org and xmv.leafpool.com) with their crappy timers and very little activity on their github are shouting at me: it is obviously a scam!

It could be, it may not be. who knows? No software is out yet. Patience, they said a day or so I believe?

You do realize that the software is actually needed to make the fork happen, don't you?

If there is no software running there is no fork happening. It is that simple.

And if there is software running but only on some private computers that we don't know about then it is shady...

Give us a clue, what mining software are you using. I guess some people here may work it out from your error message but I don't recognise it.
You may get a quicker answer if you ask in the miner thread too.

We are still waiting for mainnet so we haev no idea yet what the difficulty will be. But if you mine immediately after the launch of mainnet then its possible that you can mine some coins using your CPU.
