Backup files and private key are the utmost stuffs which you have to own them and keep them safely in different locations.
Losing them might cause to coin losses.

Yeah I'm well aware of that. I was just wondering if there was any better approach for upgrading the wallet... without having to install the new one completely from scratch, importing old private keys and enduring hours and hours of blockchain syncing again.

They just made an algorithm change and IOS + Android Wallets.
It doesn't take much time.
It will end soon.
