I'm not sure, but I think somebody just doubled your bitcoins on account.  Grin

Surely, nobody has the balls to double it again, or do they?
hey, who did that? Was that you?

I support your cause, but why don't you just raise money for a well known NGO?
I do believe you, but sending btc is kinda irreversible, and it is a sensible matter of trust
if you believe me, just send any coins, I will do what I promised to do. For the first bag or two, I can only show that I indeed got them, and donated them, and the org does the rest.

I specifically chose this route because I have seen them do their work before, many years ago. If they were a scam, they'd have been discovered. But with a big billion dollar corporation behind them, they will not risk ruining their reputation.

Now if only this doubled every day for several days, I'd have enough to feed thousands.

I do realize that you can't feed the entire world, that's just impossible (less impossible than finding a sha256 collision, but I digress) but we can work towards the goal, one child at a time.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

I think Dabs has demonstrated his credibility and I personally don't have a single doubt in my mind that he won't do exactly what he stated he's going to do, hence donating to his cause.

Okay, my turn to cry. I am beyond words. We have enough for 104 kid meals or 3 bags and change.

Honestly imo Dabs is right up there with some of the best on this site.

I'd like to thank you both. After the tears, that made me smile.

I just communicated with my group commander and operations officer about a possible feeding program that we, ourselves will actually perform, instead of leaving the bags to some org (which I still trust.) So you guys might see some pictures after all.

The next problem to solve is getting a good rate with local bitcoin traders without going through an exchange or wire transfers, or paying too much in fees. That's the nice thing about a public donation address, I can point them to this thread and tell them "You're getting bitcoins but you are also helping feed starving children, so give me a good exchange rate." heheheh.

And we're back. So, keep em coming. I've been sick the past few days, so it was all weird, this forum being offline, "forced" to read reddit, and the "road" also being taken down.

Newar has bought the bitcoins in the 1food1 address for a very good rate, so now I can buy 4 bags of VitaMeal which is good for at least 120 children on my next mission.

Thank you very much.

Update: I just tried to purchase 4 bags of VitaMeal today. The branch where I went to is out of stock due to all the recent natural calamities, and people buying lots of bags to use for their own feeding projects.

I am left with two options:
1. Wait until there is stock of the bags this November.
2. Buy and mark for donation the bags which will go from the factory straight to the charity, and I get a nice thank you letter mailed to my house from the org.

I am asking my two largest donators (Phinnaeus Gage  and lassdas) what you think I should do. I have already converted the bitcoins to fiat at a good rate (which can buy 4 bags) and I'm just holding them. The bonus with option #2 is the corporate matching program, they might give an extra bag for doing it through them.

The original plan as stated in the OP is to do #2.

Sent 0.25 BTC from 1MVfjw5kqsk3QgA8cYxtyBEjsJNBpGdMwh

Dabs, do you want an app in our wallet like Sean's Outpost has?

See this for details:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=295211.msg3305474#msg3305474

If you build this up a little more we'd be happy to do it.

I feel that time is of the essence, so I will go ahead and do the original plan, rather than wait for November. Get the receipt, scan or take a picture of that. Wait for the love letter and also scan and post it here.

@grabhive. That would be nice. The exact rate (if you like to compute for it) is 1640 PHP (Philippine Peso) to 30 child meals. So it depends on both USD to PHP, and BTC to USD rates. I just estimated it at 0.01 BTC per meal. (I went to bitcoinaverage.com and preev.com)

Vitameal bought Oct 12 2013

That is for 4 bags or 120 meals. Donation means they will take care of sending the bags to the charities that will do the actual feeding programs.

On a not-so-related topic, I'm going to buy me some hair clippers for personal use. Then I thought, hey, we used to have give free hair cuts on those same humanitarian missions I used to attend more often. So, maybe I'll do that too, even though I'm not a professional barber. Free hair cuts... cuz if I charge them, I won't have repeat customers.

Anyway, donate donate! I hope I can keep it at least at this pace continuously. One child at a time.
