For English->German I usually take between 1 EUR - 1,50 EUR per standard line depending on how technical the original is.

Hi greyhawk! We wish we were in a position to be able to pay for these translations, but unfortunately right now we're not. Can we incentivize you in some other way? A credit is obvious of course! We're super sorry for any confusion the mods may have caused by moving this to 'Services'. It was not our idea.

Do I need a Mac for translating the scripts or are they possible to translate on a Windows PC aswell? If so, we'll work something out. I'll read into the guide and I will reply to your email tomorrow

Quite sure it's possible to do it on Windows, but it certainly is a lot more comfortable on OS X. If you need a file with some strings, please email and let us know and we'll prepare something like that for you. If you're feeling a little ambitious maybe grab the repository zip and follow the rest in our I18n guide.

Hi, one important note for translators: please read this guide first https://github.com/grabhive/hive-osx/wiki/I18n-guide#for-translators (the second part - if you don't want to use git or Xcode, read at least "Translating .strings files").

TLDR:

• translate the .strings files from both en.lproj directories
• don't translate any .xib files
• use UTF-8 encoding
• skip entries that sound like Cocoa control names, e.g. "Window", "Label", "Text Cell" etc.

Are you expecting to run bitcoinj there ?

That's a good question, we're not sure yet... it might actually be possible if we figure out how to bundle a whole Java VM inside the app, so that it doesn't have any external dependencies - but even if we do, that will be still more difficult to do than the Mac app. Another option would be to use either the original bitcoin lib or libbitcoin.

I can do English>Serbian translation, and can do both cyrillic or latin script, or both, whichever you prefer. That would also be understandable in most of the Balkans, especially latin script.

Don't know amount of work required, but I'm pretty sure I can do that reasonably quickly.

But I have to ask... Is this paid job?

I've done the Czech translation without any access to Mac either. Although it helps to compare your work with some already translated version if you can. Screenshots (even if they're scarce) also help.

(Regarding what you get for that - you'll have to wait for Wendell's response, I don't know what the plan is exactly.)

Sadly, the only thing I know in Norwegian is "jeg elsker deg" but that won't help us much here, so we need to wait until someone who actually knows Norwegian volunteers to translate the app for us... (*hint hint*).

I'm sorry for the delay regarding clarity on this subject. We went back in forth on how best to distribute our gift package, but in the end the reality of the physically disparate locations of all the translators (and the fact that some did not want to reveal their identities) made it untenable.

So, although we know that this is well under appropriate market value, we'd like offer a little BTC (~$40 USD worth) to the translators who have contributed full translations thus far. To claim it, please send an email to w@hivewallet.com with your desired receiving address.

On January 25th, we are going to be releasing our "1.0" version at the North American Bitcoin Conference in Miami. Although we unfortunately cannot offer any additional compensation for this work, we would very much appreciate your help in getting across this finish line by translating the few additional strings we have added.

Finally, regarding compensation at this time for future translations (and in response to iFA88): While I hope that we are funded one day to the degree that we can make such promises, right now we simply can't. We are still a very young free software project. I hope you guys understand.

we've set up a project on Transifex, a site that helps with translating apps: https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/hive-osx/. If you want to help us update an existing translation or add a new one, you can do this through the site now if you want.

Instructions:

• Create an account, join the project and a chosen language
• Pick a file, click "Translate now"
• Go through the entries without the "√" sign (or select the "Untranslated" filter at the top) and translate them
• You can click the "Copy source string" icon above if the string doesn't need to be translated, and sometimes you can use the suggestions on the right (in whole or partially)
• For some of the strings (in "Localizable") you might see sugestions about what the string is about below the main box ("Developer note")
• Click "Save all" when you're done

just a reminder, if you want to help us translate Hive into your language, create an account on Transifex and join the project at https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/hive-osx/ (or send us a pull request on GitHub if you prefer). We keep adding new stuff so existing translations become outdated over time...

Current status of translations:

• French, German, Polish and Romanian are mostly up to date, we also have a Tagalog speaker on the team
• Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Serbian, Spanish and Swedish have been updated recently (around or after 1.0)
• Arabic, Chinese Simplified, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Hindi, Korean, Portuguese (+Brazilian), Turkish and Urdu haven't been updated since autumn, so a lot of new stuff is missing - we'd love it if someone could help with those
• it looks like we might have a Persian translation incoming

Also if someone could help us with a language not listed here (e.g. Norwegian, Hebrew, Chinese Traditional, Eastern European languages) that would be greatly appreciated.
