I was thinking about how easily everything could get out of hand with bitcoin so easily being passed around. I mean if the wrong people know about it, they could quite easily use bitcoin to fund weapons and all sorts..what are your thoughts?

when you pay taxes in US dollars, you fund terrorism.  bitcoin is the currency of peace.

furthermore, how would your hypothetical work?  how could bitcoin fund terrorism in a way that fiat could not?  specifically.  bitcoin is not anonymous, and the exchanges follow pretty thorough KYC/AML.

They don't need Bitcoin.

The USA quite happily accepts dollars for the weapons they sell to terrorists.

I'm sure there are plenty of terrorist groups out there that have nothing to do with the US. IMO there is no such thing as peace as far as "Money" is concerned. Technically Bitcoin is "Money".

If governments wanted to make crime fighting money, they'd have done so long ago. The friction that comes with building crime fighting features into our money would be so economically damaging that we forego it and fight crimes using the infrastructure used to account for and store our money.

Hardforks aren't that hard. It’s getting others to use them that's hard.

Gold, silver, land, resources and cash have been the currency of the worse human crimes in world history.

Bitcoin, not so much.

Every dollar in your pocket has drugs, guns, and political crimes attached to it, but something tells me you already know all this and are simply here to be a Concern Troll, to plant seeds of FUD in Bitcoiners and those researching the technology.

Bitcoin is not owned by USA so it can't be related to terrorism.

We can take a look about Bitcoin & Terrorism  at the other pov, not only real terrorism, - there is other, fast growing terrorism - underground markets, like tor network(silkroad), where btc is main currency and you can buy almost everything. I think BTC is good but also it really not help goverments to fight against drugs/contrabanda Smiley

Bitcoin has little chance of supporting terrorism as the trading chart known as blockchain, recording every transaction even there is just plain numbers and symbols. So far, some enforcement is successfully trapped the red hand.

Since the blockchain is open, all people can monitor if there is something wrong so real terrorists, real crimials don't use bitcoin as their media as the being is traceable already

It is not a stretch. And Bitcoin is a value-free currency, not of peace or war.

Government money is never value-free because it is controlled and printed by a single entity. Thus, users of currency support whatever agenda this entity has. U.S. government uses a lot of "budget deficit" (aka "debt", aka "printed money") for military/police purposes. Therefore we can say that  USD is a currency used largely for violent purposes.

Bitcoin is controlled by every user who are very different (there are socialists, anarchists, catholics etc.), so there isn't any specific value to identify. Most importantly, every user acts on his/her beliefs with their own funds, not by taxing every other user like in case with USD inflation.

Why does any government need to fight against what people choose to put in their own bodies? To make drug barons rich? To justify massive incarceration?

The value of the total amount of Bitcoin in present circulation has probably already been given by the US, in nice straightforward dollars through Saudi Arabia and nice straight guns, just to support the Al-Qaeda factions in Syria.

Silk road (a tiny market website that has to hide A LOT better than a standard dollar based drug-dealer) has a strict policy against guns. Snotty countries like USA, France, UK, Sweden* sell tons of guns, in FIAT, to unstable regions of the world, many of them hand held items that are scarily easy to use in trivial mass death terror attacks...

Go spread FUD to a dumber, more ignorant, audience.

-

*These annoy me because of their unjustifiable snottiness but for fairness this is the present top10 for weapon exports (note that it's in absolute terms, not per capita):

USA
Russia
Germany
France
China
Turkey
UK
Italy
Israel
Sweden
Ukraine

Just google it if in doubt.

Anything can be used to do bad things. Hence why I consider Bitcoin and fiat currencies as tools and not the source of all life's purpose.

Is it a stretch? Here's some old news.

http://www.defense.gov/news/Jun2003/basestructure2003.pdf

The meaning of terrorism, before it became a buzzword for 4th generation warfare, was a violent act or series of violent acts with the purpose of causing terror among a populace, thereby reducing trust and destabilizing an established government.

I give you Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Yugoslavia, Korea, Vietnam, Panama, Grenada...

If you look at what the lords of mordor District of Columbia defines as terrorism, the only logical conclusions you can draw are that the DC cabal are:

a. pathological lying psychopaths, and
b. the greatest exporters of terrorism ever to have existed, and
c. the largest rogue government to have ever existed.

I am middle aged, and I have watched the vestiges of the american dream die due to the stab wounds inflicted by it's so called leaders. It saddens me. Bitcoin is not a threat. Nobody is likely to start wars to keep it active. Nobody is going to invade another people, flatten their cities, destroy their infrastructure, and poison their children's grandchildren for it. The same cannot be said of the dollar and the awful powers that back it.
