Originally I had posted this info on KnCMiner form while bitcointalk was down. Feel free to post your own details as respects your experience with your hardware.
I wish to start of by congratulating the KnCMiner team on the success of their project.
In the case of the spec of the unit they have indeed underpromise and overdeliver.
Below are my first impressions of the Jupiter unit that I had ordered. I will continue to post my observations and results as to performance comparable with other ASIC hardware available today on the market.
Build QualityPro:The unit itself is extremely light compared to what I have grown accustom to.
The case itself including the contents is well packaged together. The heatsinks on the individual boards are secure and snug to the lid with the help of foam pads.
There's two metal plates on the lid that helps move wind threw the unit out the back.
System runs very quiet with the low rpm fans.
Cons:The stock fans are in my opinion do not provide adequate CFM.
The air intake is in the same location where the cables connect.
Performance and Power ConsumptionThe stock firmware that had shipped with my unit v0.90 pushed the chips into the high 600 GH/s Range and pulled 860 watts @120v. However due to hardware errors they average performance was 490 GH/s.
Upgrading to v2 0.92 the power consumption dropped from 860 watts, to 570 watts at 120V power. However due to poor ventilation cg miner reports 530 Gh/s average however due to the hardware errors the performance is the same as before at about 490-500 GH/s.
Software Pro: If you had provided the correct information on your account before shipping then the unit will come preconfigured and ready to go.
Just plug in to your internet and power and your up at 100%.
Cons: I recommend that all persons open up the unit in order to check for loose fans. Seems a little bump can make the fans detach from the heatsinks. It is fairly simple to attach the fans.
ShippingI was pleasantly surprised when UPS had shipped my unit on time.
Shipped October 2nd and Arrived October 4th.
Another colleague had issues with his order getting misplaced by UPS. However in the end UPS did deliver the unit on time.
Overall impressionsThe case design a 8/10
This is due to the connection points and the inadequate stock ventilation for the speed setting of the ASIC processors.
The web interface a 5/10.
The web interface needs to include access to the cgminer log and perhaps poll the details from cgminer onto a page that the average user can use.
The software pre configuration 10/10.
As long as you had provided the needed information to connect to your pool of choice then the system should come ready to mine.
Here is a screenshot of the Jupiter 1 performance. This also includes other units operating in the same environment at the same electrical service.
Ambient room temp is 62.6°Ft or 17°C
Note:I would just like to add that KnCMiner team has provided an excellent product overall that will help those entering the mining segment with a solid option.
Later on I will be posting screenshots of performance improvements that I will be conducting over the course of the next few days.
