Initial coin offerings are appealing to traders for the same reason that initial public offerings - they offer a high level of volatility as the market comes up with an appropriate price for the asset. If you're interested in learning how to trade cryptocurrencies, Investopedia's Crypto Trading Course provides a comprehensive overview of the subject taught by a Wall Street veteran. You'll learn cryptocurrency basics, how to setup a wallet, and how technical analysis can be used to identify opportunities.

ICOs are similar to IPOs and crowdfunding. Like IPOs, a stake of the startup or company is sold to raise money for the entity’s operations during an ICO operation. However, while IPOs deal with investors, ICOs deal with supporters that are keen to invest in a new project much like a crowdfunding event. But ICOs differ from crowdfunding in that the backers of the former are motivated by a prospective return in their investments, while the funds raised in the latter campaign are basically donations. For these reasons, ICOs are referred to as crowdsales.

Its important to note that unlike an Initial Public Offering (IPO), investing in an ICO won't result in you having an ownership stake of the company you're giving money to. You're gambling that the currently worthless currency you pay for now will increase in worth later and make you money.

And if it's easier to say, ICO is raising funds at the expense of investors to develop or improve a product, to achieve the goal that the team has set for itself.
Yes, According to the article investopedia.com, An unregulated means by which funds are raised for a new cryptocurrency venture. An Initial Coin Offering (ICO) is used by startups to bypass the rigorous and regulated capital-raising process required by venture capitalists or banks. In an ICO campaign, a percentage of the cryptocurrency is sold to early backers of the project in exchange for legal tender or other cryptocurrencies, but usually for Bitcoin. This definition may help you to understand better the meaning of ICO.

I see people keep on answering the same thing on this thread. You may create a thread on meta section to ask what is ICO discussion on the altcoin discussion as a pinned message on this forum.

If that happen we may not see some spam thread on this reputed section. Already DT member are worrying that bitcoin discussion thread seems like spam section completely.

Ico is a quick way to raise money, but it is not regulated, so there are many people who make excessive profits through ico. That's a bad behavior.

ico is initial coins offering, you invest when the project goes do pre sale, so you will get tokens with low prices, thats because reasong why ico can make big profit. yeah right if you find and invest in some good ico you will going to the moon, but not easy to find it brothers

ICO is a relatively new form of investment, the emergence of which is associated with the development of crypto currency. The term itself is an abbreviation for Initial Coin Offering. The literal translation is "primary placement of coins" or "primary monetary offer".
If you are interested in investments and crypto-currencies, then you have probably already come across this term. In simple words, ICO is crypto-currency crowdsharing, that is, collecting money for something on the side. Often in ICO projects are involved, which in one way or another are related to the technology of blocking and crypto currency.

With respect to ico, you explain it very comprehensively. However, at present, most countries are not friendly to ico, because ico serves many frauds, and there is no specific policy to supervise ico

But I think for ICO is an initial coin offering that offers to give other ways of making money, ICO is a form of different levels of type and quality, is also a tool with money. However, not entirely all types of ICO have a good price level, there are some ICO that someone say pesky coins because of very cheap value.

ICO summaries are a form of fundraising for project development. This is a new kind of fundraising. There are a lot of ICOs going on daily and more than half of them are investment fraud schemes, so be careful when choosing to invest in an ICO.

What is ICO?
I think the ICO is a form of calling for smart capital.
This approach helps us reach more potential investors around the world.

For beginners, it may help to you to understand what is ICO

An initial coin offering (ICO) is a controversial means of crowdfunding centered around cryptocurrency, which can be a source of capital for startup companie. In an ICO, a quantity of the crowdfunded cryptocurrency is preallocated to investors in the form of "tokens", in exchange for legal tender or other cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin or ethereum. These tokens supposedly become functional units of currency if or when the ICO's funding goal is met and the project launches.

ICOs provide a means by which startups avoid costs of regulatory compliance and intermediaries, such as venture capitalists, bank and stock exchanges, while increasing risk for investors.ICOs may fall outside existing regulations or may need to be regulated depending on the nature of the project, or are banned altogether in some jurisdictions, such as China and South Korea.

In an ICO campaign, a percentage of the cryptocurrency is sold to early backers of the project in exchange for legal tender or other cryptocurrencies, but usually for Bitcoin.

I would also add to your words that by participating in an investment in the course of an ICO, a person does not acquire any shares in the campaign and, accordingly, how much money he has invested, he will not be able to influence the decision-making in the campaign.
