I'm in the States.

I'd be happy to start one here, but I don't have any credibility on this forum, as I just joined. I hope someone with experience and credibility here is interested in this.

I want to buy but considering below factors:-

It only mine cryptonight and a dangerous precedent was set by Bitmain followed by Halong miner

And we remember what happened with X11 when Bitmain unleashed almost double capacity miner followed by Innosillicon

For buying argument:  I tell myself to buy with hope that Bitmain etc won't launch more powerful miner

For not buying argument:

  • Its only 2 algorithms (effectively one as only AEON is on second algorithm)
  • 20Kh is huge hash rate and currently shown earnings are expected reduce by 50% atleast.
    • It does not support 5 to 7 algorithms like its always with Baikal , take example of Giant B, after mega miner release of Decred by Halong its only gonna profitable to mine coins such as Lbry on Giant B

So if Baikal announce it will add more algorithms in this device then i could consider buying, yet i am confused and not taken a final decision.

    Thanks

There is something called discrete "SRAM" ... SRAM is fast but expensive , but 2MB per instance is not that big ...

Monero has an upcoming hardfork to prevent asics.  I don't know all of the details but its my understanding that they will be changing the algo every so often to keep out asics.

Yup, I know about that. What I mean is, why Baikal dont know about this and change it in very last minutes? Didn't they know it coming?  Huh

Yup, I know about that. What I mean is, why Baikal dont know about this and change it in very last minutes? Didn't they know it coming?  Huh

I have a feeling that Baikal has known about this all along and they've tried to keep their ASICs as under-wraps as possible so that they could profit from them by mining themselves. Just look at the Monero difficulty over the past few months... it rises constantly regardless of price.

I'd originally ascribed it to massive botnets coming online... but this might be the real reason.

Back to your point... now that the Monero hard fork is scheduled and impending, Baikal is trying to dump these ASICs for good money. I for one am not going to bail them out. Shipping 7 days from order? Strange... every other ASIC takes forever to ship... must have a good quantity on hand ready to go. Sitting idle? I don't think so.

Not to mention the fact that Cryptonight was specifically engineered not only to resist ASICs, but also GPUs from completely overwhelming the hashrate by focusing on the strength of modern CPUs... random access of L3 cache.

Yet here were are. Perhaps I should start listening to Metroid... guess I'm just biased because I'm holding out hope for all these Vega's I haven't dumped yet!

That's not a group buy. You're just a scummy reseller.

Well there are people that actually cannot even get one because of the MOQ, if they're willing to buy it there's nothing wrong with that.
