I think that there are many coins in the cryptocurrency that can compete with eth. There may be anything happening in the cryptocurrency. No one can accurately predict that eth has a lot of competitors.

There are so many ethereums competitors out there, let's say NEO, EOS, Waves etc. As long as the competitor has the best feature than ethereum then it can surpass the ethereum. For me, ETH is the most technologically advanced electronic currency chosen by many new projects as a platform for growth. Ethereum is a good coin due to the way it change cryptocurrency market but the future of ethereum can be predict mate because NEO and Ethereum offer the same concept and as at now NEO can process more transaction than Ethereum. Although, Ethereum team promise to create sharding which will be the answer and they are yet to create. So, they don't create it there crypto sphere will switch to NEO.

there are already many new platforms that try to compete with smart contracts.
there are some that are almost identical, but none can compete with ethereum. it is difficult to compete with eth that already has a great reputation from all existing altcoin.

It is true that it will be difficult to compete with ethereum in term of smart contract but if a new project like credits can perfect their autonomous smart contracts with over 500ktps and very little transactions fees then in the long run they will compete with ethereum and others.

I know your thread is old but check GoChain, it's using it's own blockchain, same addresses as the Ethereum, probably with better improvements so far.

Icouln't believe the success they are making so far & still dirt cheap to get, that project is huge once adopted enough & new ICOs build their Dapps using it.

Ethereum is used by 90% of the ICOs and there are so many rivals of ethereum blockchain which have to proove them yet. There are few blockchain projects which I feel can be biggest competitors of ethereum like NEO, EOS, ZIL. Presently NEO is doing well and is the closest rival of ethereum blockchain. The traction of the NEO blockchain project is really improving day by day with so many good projects and are very impressive.

NEO just not a thing anymore from my opinion, right now Ethereum having its time competing EOS and the fact that EOS always dumping its ethereum coin that they raised in the ICO is really affecting the ethereum market somehow they'll run out of ETH but just give them a try, but even if EOS having more feature than Ethereum smart contract people will just stick to ETH because it's popular and there's so many exchanges for ERC20

There are many coins out there trying to replace ethereum, but not a single coin has achieved that, the greatest contender is a coin called NEO but ethereum has a great advantage already and it's not going to be easy to surpass it, in my opinion something will need to happen to ethereum so NEO can take advantage of that and take away most of its market cap.
