Is it because of the large number of altcoins?

The number of altcoins in the market is immaterial to the decrease on the prices of bitcoin. As was shown on this article: https://cointelegraph.com/news/btc-falls-below-8000-again-after-week-of-mixed-signals , it was mainly due to an individual selling large amounts of bitcoins in the market. Surprisingly, even prices of ETH and Ripple also decreased following bitcoin's turmoil.
This article: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/mar/18/cryptocurrency-bitcoin-irs-tax also explained that investors in bitcoin faced hefty tax bills since the Internal Revenue Service mentioned that 'anything purchased with digital currency is taxable'. Maybe the government right now is being strict in terms of implementations of tax for regulations.

not just more selling than the buyer, the decline also occurs because the interest of digital money users began to shift to other money such as ethereum, Ripple to litecoin.

Is it because of the large number of altcoins?
No, I don't think so. I do not think altcoin has any effect on the Bitcoin price. In my opinion, Bitcoin prices have fallen sharply recently due to new information and decisions from major social networking sites. Last month, Facebook launched a ban on ads related to cryptocurrency. A few days ago, the information about google and twitter will do the same thing has appeared, Bitcoin prices have dropped dramatically at that time. This is just my opinion

Is it because of the large number of altcoins?

No, the bitcoin rate is rapidly sinking not because of the large number of altcoins. Very little crypto currency can compete with bitcoin. Yes, now there is a huge number of new projects, but most of them disappear, not even having time to prove themselves. The price of bitcoin falls due to negative news about the crypto-currency world. The ban of Google and Facebook, attempts to establish control, the spread of doubts in the anonymity and speed of transactions - all these factors have a bad effect on the reputation of bitcoins and deter potential investors.

Is it because of the large number of altcoins?
not just because of altcoin alone, some factors also cause bitcoin prices to fall. among the latest is there is news from facebook, twitter and google memblock all ads about crypto. and everyone's negative perceptions of bitcoin also affect the bitcoin price.
Altcoins do no effect bitcoin in any way. In actual it is bitcoin that decides the future values of altcoin. It is considered as the benchmark for all altcoins as bitcoin is the mother of digital currencies. The main game is always played by big investors who have invested millions of dollars here. Whenever they make a move, the impact on the digital market is crystal clear. Besides, many people want bitcoin which gives hype to its value.

many investors found themselves in a difficult situation due to the risk of losing the ability to withdraw cryptocurrency in Fiat currency due to negative reviews and news about USDT.
New platforms are actively developing, new digital assets can already exist without the participation of Bitcoin.

Is it because of the large number of altcoins?
I think not, the price of Bitcoin has decreased the first in because by the issue of news issues that are warm like Google's Ban ICO ads
and the second because follow the market when the market dropped the person directly sell Bitcoin for various reasons...
This is the main reasons that people use to spread fake news in market that google ban bitcoin, china ban bitcoin, facebook ban bitcoin, but there is no reality in this kind of fake new I dint know why people get trapped and trust them. it is not good to listen them hold your bitcoin  and see your bitcoin fast and profitable growth, I think this coming month price is going to rise and I hope this time  no bad or fake news will not let bitcoin market get down.

The bitcoin is steady for last 24 hours now and showing good progress but that does mean that it will go on the same road. Recently, bitcoin has been falling due various reasons like G20 summit, Mt. Gox selling and few small news had made the price to fall. But now most of things seem to solved and we can hope that bitcoin remains constant and grows in the coming days.

Is it because of the large number of altcoins?
Nope it is because of the large number of investors or the early users selling their bitcoin ,
So they are the one who is dumping the market from what I have read it is from the Mt.Gox they are dumping their bitcoin.

Yes they do so but it is not working at all no need to be worry about bitcoin price rise and fall, as it is nature of bitcoin someday bitcoin will increase in price and someday it will decrease but you will have to wait to see it high if once it is low in market, actually price increase when demand of bitcoin become high in market and supply become low. So if price is going down it is because people are selling bitcoin at panic price so you will not have to worry just stay calm after very short time bitcoin price will be again high so hold and wait only.

Early adopters have a huge contributor in these dips. Of course they are new and still learning for this,  that's why we should not blame them thoroughly.
Mt. Gox issues also makes some investors to get their token off earlier and they are competing to sell their tokens that helps market going down.

This is not a strange thing for virtual currencies like bitcoin, because nowadays there is a lot of bad news that hit bitcoin, thus causing the price to decline rapidly.
Government bans on bitcoin trade in every country, especially in asia, make bitcoin prices and a bunch of other virtual currencies plummeted dramatically.
Thus causing users and investors to panic with the events that currently occur.
In addition, today many competitors such as altcoin are in great demand and make bitcoin users begin to switch to ethereum or ripple and this will obviously make bitcoin prices decline rapidly.

I think bitcoin is going down because it receive a negative trust from the negative issue from the feild, bitcoin will rapidly dropping down like it never rise again because of some negative issue. Bitci think this is not new on our bitcoin journey, because even from the past we really know that the bitcoin will drop and pump because of the good and bad feedback around the globe.

I think the bitcoin price reduction is not due to altcoin but because of the many negative news about cryptocurrency, among others the prohibition of cryptocurrency ads on facebook and google and banning anonymous account bitcoin in south korea and united states. that's news I know

For the moment, the biggest reason for this is that people wait for the G20. We can say that the price does not even change. I hope that we get positive news about the cryptos and we are all comfortable. Since the beginning of 2018, cryptocurrencies have only been going on deep.

BTC prices have risen for several days, after the G20 decided not to change its policy on Crypto, which was not tied to the Crypto market so it made the market more stable. This is the basis for Crypto market growth in the near future. Let's buy and hold the altcoin right now.

Hi,

There are several factors affecting the price of bitcoin but I think that the number of alt coins is not one of them.

There has been a huge rise in December 17, so logically prices went down on January. Just because prices were completely crazy. Though, the downard move is quite long... It has been 3 months and there is no sign showing it may improve...

I understand why people are worried but we cannot expect and we shouldn't hope that trends from 2017 get repeated yearly. Bitcoin is struggling to be spread as a currency, and such chaotic moves do not speak in its favour.

So yeah, prices are down... basically to compensate for their crazy heights. Nothing to worry about! Smiley
