Looks like all Newbies are busy to create a new thread about Merit in Meta, how great it is or how unfair instead of having a look at this guide. Finally most of the comments how good this new requirement is, are empty promises, we will be sure in a few weeks if we have a look at their comments after they received their 1 Merit... Merits is the best way to protect this forum from alt accounts and shitposters, you have to make some effort to earn a few Merits. Hundreds or may be thousands accounts appear every day on bitcointalk and something or someone should limit their number. Thank TMAN for advice, I use it.
Well, 1609 posts and no single Merit... A good solution would be to wait maybe 1 or 2 months and then increase the Merit requirements again. 2 Merit to get a Jr. Member would be enough because we can check the new comments after the account got his 1 Merit and if he continued shitposting nonstop, this second Merit he needs now to be Jr. Member will be refused.

Personally I don't care of the user's language skills are poor as long as they are producing something of substance useful to others and not whoring affiliate links. It just so happens the people who do that stuff most also have poor language skills so they tend to get grouped together easily.

I was searching for some threads which I hoped could give me some real instructions on how to get some merit for people who deserve them, this system demotivates people who are not willing to do extra for something they did not ask for but want to progress by time and effort! Clearly I am disappointed to bump into a thread where you are told to learn English and read English books, nice tips but don't think people who don't know English that well on this forum wanting to make some extra bucks are changing their priority from making money into buying books and investing in themselves, this is just not the way things work for the majority.
I am not going into much detail why the first and foremost reason I came to this forum was because I wanted to escape a world where you need to behave like the rest of the herd and be regulated by a few but this is definitely looking like it, sadly it reminds me of ''Nosedive'' an episode of Black Mirror.
You have to have luck and need to research the right threads in order to have a chance to get some merit from people who actually read your comments and are willing to merit you, don't hope to get merit in a regular thread for your quality posts, at least I have never seen someone read my post and actually appreciate it and merit me.

Unfortunately, very often poor English skills become a huge obstacle to understanding and interpreting a written comment. Sometimes the grammar suffers so much that it becomes impossible to grasp the meaning. No matter how ingenious your way of thinking is, but if you aren`t able to share it and convey your point of view to others, then you`ll remain unnoticed. Therefore, I fully agree that in order to become a full-fledged member of the forum and even more so to get merit, it`s necessary to improve your language. Otherwise, you simply lose the opportunity of communication, which is the foundation of the bitcointalk community.

* Improve your English language, this isnt just spelling and grammar this includes using words like Sir & Mr when I see those I imediately asume the person is a 3rd world poster * Spend the time that you currently use posting incoherent rubbish to learn proper Written English, start with youtube there has to be over 3002 different videos about writing the English Language * Read a few English books, you can download free Ebooks as a starter, look how sentences are structured common words etc. * Remember a quality post isnt necessarily a long winded post, using words that make you sound like you swallowed a thesauras doesnt help your cause
People always find words of English terms that are often used by many people in everyday life. However, many of these people do not understand the meaning of the words of these terms. more confusing, in the British English version of American English there are many different terms used with the same definition. I agree with TMAN to find out the importance of learning English, Example:Try to imagine how the world would be about the next 10 years? maybe, in view of the important reasons why we should learn English, a little insight into the reasons for the importance of learning English. 1. Opportunity to get a job. 2. Meng-global language 3. Easy to accept in the eyes of the world. 5. Economic Language. 6. Can Follow the Development of the Age 7. Understanding Technology 8. Increasing Knowledge 9. Safe recreation. 10. Scientific language 12. Look the most slang 13. Improve Career. 14.make us smarter. 15. Can conquer the world of the Internet. This is the very basic reason for the English language.

Lol, I just saw this thread and I couldn't resist laughing at how entitled it sounds reads like. Only a few people like : Personally I don't care of the user's language skills are poor as long as they are producing something of substance useful to others
are taking the humane side of the discussion. And to anyone supporting the fact that people who have bad english, are automatically to be shunned and disregarded, holy shit. By what right do you think you can force someone else to learn your language? Because it's among the top spoken languages on the planet? What if I told you that outside of your USA, UK, and a bunch of other places where english is the native language, there's actually people who can spend a lifetime not speaking english! Unbelievable right??? Sarcasm aside, to anyone who actually feels entitled to a language just because they were born with it, and not just that, automatically assume everyone else should learn it to talk with them, I wish you get stuck some day outside of your country in a place where they only speak spanish, or arabic, or one of the many chinese dialects. (Only these 3 make about 24% of the planet's population, with your beloved english barely at a 6%) People need to get their heads out of their asses, if everyone was entitled like you are, you have no idea how backwards the world would be, do you think every scientist who contributed to massive advancements in science knew perfect english? Do you think businesses and trade relations were all built on english contracts? Just out of the top of my head, I youtubed "interview founder of tencent", and here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGnby27ypRoYou, with your amazing english, go tell this guy, the founder of one of the biggest fucking octopus companies on the planet, "go work on your english".

Unfortunately, very often poor English skills become a huge obstacle to understanding and interpreting a written comment. <snip>
I agree, and I've written the same sentiment many times before. I've seen some very intelligent people posting useful stuff here, and even if their grammar sucks I'm still able to get the meaning. The real problem on the forum is not simply that people are unable to write proper English; it's that most of the members with advertising in their signature can't write English and basically have nothing useful or interesting to say. That's why we're seeing this epidemic of plagiarism--it's a lack of language skills, an inability to come up with an original thought, and a culture of dishonesty. I wish you get stuck some day outside of your country in a place where they only speak spanish, or arabic, or one of the many chinese dialects. (Only these 3 make about 24% of the planet's population, with your beloved english barely at a 6%)
As I just wrote above, I have no problem with people who can't write English well as long as they're trying to communicate something useful. You and a lot of others are misinterpreting this criticism of shitposters as just a criticism of their language skills, and it really isn't. The bounty shitposters are only trying to write posts in a language they have little understanding of because they're getting paid to do it. In the process they're killing the forum by burying good posts under an avalanche of horse shit. If I started using google translate to write posts in Arabic (or any other language I don't speak) because I was in a signature campaign that only paid for posts in Arabic, you'd better believe I'd be getting criticized by native Arabic speakers for being a shitposter. And my posts certainly wouldn't be getting merited.

There needs to be merit sources in the local boards, most people accept that. This isnt the first time I've seen a forum equate poor English or poor sentence formation with spam or pointless posts. There is some correlation though your point is fair, there is a space for people to post in their own languages. Its not really discrimination then but yea its slightly unfair about how alot of the internet is in this particular language. In the future it might be one of the Asian languages, populations would suggest thats highly possible You, with your amazing english, go tell this guy, the founder of one of the biggest fucking octopus companies on the planet, "go work on your english". I'm not going to be absolute about it. IF someone comes onto to the forum to post e=mc^2 in otherwise bad grammar, its unfortunate but also they are a genius and hopefully I'd recognise and merit a good post anyway. Its hard to do so when the post isnt readable though. If theres nothing original in the post then mostly every other factor is of no consequence anyway Well, 1609 posts and no single Merit...
Thats a hell of a disparity thats puzzling, I'll look through their posts and see if theres any excuse to give at least 1 merit

And my posts certainly wouldn't be getting merited.
I didn't read every single comment on this post, but I don't think I'm misinterpreting anything. The original post conveys the single main idea, being "Go learn engrish", which I argued. On the other hand I wouldn't consider shitposting to be bound to language. It's just the cultural diversity of the forums that causes only non-english speakers to stand out because they don't write well articulated messages. There are definitely a lot of native english newbies that shitpost as well, but them being a minority compared to the overflow of other countries makes them look less bad. What I can agree with is that the problem comes from bounty campaigns that force them to post in places where they have no knowledge or extra information to add, which makes for very low quality posts. Especially because a lot of campaigns deny people posting in local forums, I don't think there's an easy solution to that besides completely banning out bounties, which isn't really a solution but rather a radical "trump wall". I came up with quite a few ideas back here : One, Two.. The bigger problem is that there's no punishment for shitposting. A newbie (english-speaking or not), can shitpost all day long, with the worst outcome being no merit, and maybe a red trust tag if he trespasses, but that's a stretch. So maybe a punishment system would help, maybe..

Well, the OPs guide could have been a little more elaborate an attempt to give a proper guidelines on how to get merits as it seemed to only cover their own idea.
Users who live in English speaking regions would still not get merited if they have little knowledge of the forum and no desire to read and learn. Confining those who are not native speakers would limit their growth, and command of the English language. Through attempts, corrections, more attempts they could become better in their use of the language. But then, that is not a ticket to get merit on any post. They still need relevant knowledge on cryptocurrency.

Judging by the OP's rank and how long he's been on this forum, I think his ideas and guidelines(even if you claim they are solely his) should be something to go by, it's just like taking advice from someone who learnt the ropes years and years before you and I came on board Users who live in English speaking regions would still not get merited if they have little knowledge of the forum and no desire to read and learn.
The guidelines aptly covers all this points you're actually highlighting.. It talks of upgrading one's command of the English language as well as pointing out that such users also need to read and learn on the forum.. (refer back to the original post) They still need relevant knowledge on cryptocurrency.
Just like the original posts says and points out if one takes his time on the forum, and read the threads pointed out, such as significance of the pizza day,the bubble,Cyprus etc, There happens to be no chance in hell that in one to two years such user wouldn't be knowledgeable about cryptocurrency

I believe that the basic knowledge to gain merits is knowledge and being friendly in the forum. Probably, if one has a hard time getting merit then there should be a problem like getting ignore on those high ranks or the merit source. There were many users here that they ignore after seeing no chance of getting merit to even at least 1 or ignore if one does not do good in the forum and always complaining.
In the end it is really the knowledge that will get you their for it is the source of the witty words that you will going to use and post as a reply or to start a new thread. As the high rank user's suggest to take some time to start a post carefully check before posting it.

is it humane that we have to read Google translate shitposts? is it humane that we cannot go into some of the subs on this forum without getting eyecancer from posts such as "great project" posted 405,001 times? Well, the OPs guide could have been a little more elaborate an attempt to give a proper guidelines on how to get merits as it seemed to only cover their own idea.
elaborate? fucking elaborate? how can I write war and peace to help people if they cant fucking understand what I am writing? you do understand that this whole thread is about non English speakers fucking up the forum, the same people that forced Theymos into introducing the merit system.

Being friendly on the forum counts for absolutely nothing, the OP of this thread is actually not friendly on the forum(at least to cheaters,plagiarists,copy/pasters) Just as the original posts point out, it takes time to learn, and if one follows the due process required to rank up, then it wouldn't be much of a problem.. Though this doesn't happen is just merely few months,it could take a few years in some cases

But it seems to me that the degree of ass kissing on the forum has completely skyrocketed since the last time I've been browsing the forums regularly. But hey, I'm glad to see that juniors and members have figured out the secret to quickly snatching one or two merits here and there, fair play to you.

Of course it covers his own ideas, why would he want to copy other people's ideas. The guy is smart enough to think for himself, not like some of the spambies who don't even understand the stuff they are copying. There are so many threads about getting merit, that any halfway intelligent guy can read them, and use the best ideas. If you can't manage that, then yo need to go back to school.

Jr. Member to Full Member isn't impossible trust your selves then you can do it. Make lots of useful post then don't expect of merits. When earning merit on your post donobe triggered of getting merits because some of the merit hunters that I go with get banned by copying others work due to they're triggered on finding topics to be posted.
