In fact, the fraud may be that those who conduct the airdrops in fact, just need your email address. They want to collect a database of cryptocurrency users.

Everything can be a scam. Even if it not for free.. Just watch the most ICOs that we back in 2017... The most projects just scammed their people and run away with all their money.
still a scam in the ico company was quite a lot. but I thought that this practice practically changed, but it turned out not so. I would like to cite the Sandro project as an example, which collected a hard cap, and eventually the developers left with the investors' money.
Most of the airdrops are scam and they are free, also most of the faucets, so don't bother to invest your time to them unless you are sure about the airdrops that you are spending your time at, so better to know first the airdrops that we are joining at so that we cannot be victimized.

If scammers want to develop their ico project, then it seems to me that they are using their money to get a lot more. We know how many ico projects are collected and there is such an opportunity for scammers.

An airdrop gives free coins or tokens, but before they give it to you, you will be required to do something like registering to their sites. If you have done all their requirements and still not receiving free coins or just receiving shitcoins, that is when it can be called a scam.

Hi everybody,
Lately I am reading a lot of posts asking: is this airdrop a scam? Is that free ICO a scam?
So I am wondering how can something that doesn't cost you a penny be a scam. Sure, they get your email adress and maybe a ETH Adress, but how can you  really be scamed with only this informations? I am not talking about airdrops that require kyc registration, that for sure can be dangerous.
Cheers,

I think its 50/50 but 100% it will waste your time, this is because there are really some sites that offers free coins but still you need to pay back them thru referrals and i hate doing it. Simply because we really don't know if the site is a scam that if we refer them to our friends then our friend might be in trouble and may blame us in the end then even if these free sites are 100% legit but the value that they will give to us is very small in which not worth of our wasted time for them.

talking about free, I got 232 JUST powh.io yesterday. The site takes me to P3D tokens which don't have a nice reputation as of now. And with 1 ETH, you can buy around 71 p3d tokens. I am wondering whats is this free 232 token all about? Any idea

I have a ton of free token with no value, and some of it is just less than $5 and a waste of time to participate on airdrops with free token this time and I think most of it is a scam.

ICO-companies evaluate the same as the venture, but taking into account the token. On the company page in the section token design or token economy you can see how the token is designed. If the task of the venture is to sell more, the task of the crypto company is to make the tokens grow in value. If the startup tokens grow - then there are real users, activity, investors. If the tokens fall, the company will die.

Of course it can be scam in the sense that you've worked to promote the project on different platforms and you didn't get what was promised as a reward for the task or assignment given to promote the ICO or getting less than promised or expected

It is token spam designed to get your attention so that hopefully you will invest in their scam token. It also apperantly acts as malware in that if you try to remove the tokens you end up with more.

Well, imho, scam is not necessarily take away your money. If you give something (your time, your personal data, anything, your signature) because you are promised to be rewarded, but in the end the person/entity is breaking their promise, it might be called scam/fraud.

And BTW when you give your data freely they might sell it to some people, and many people willing to pay for personal data.

Also to ad to this, another example of fraud is participating in bounties and the devs disappears refusing to pay you for work done.

Something  free can be scam because it will attract many to it. There will be a phings site advertising to give free coin in other for them to get your details .free things can make you loose your hard earn money if they get some few details from you

In most cases, the tokens you get after registering with airdrop do not cost anything, or you are not paid at all. But they can not steal anything from you.

t is very likely to happen, there are irresponsible parties to make ICO and Airdrop after they get some investors and participants who join, they will run away from this world before they provide pay and profit to participants and investors.
You can prevent the theft of tokens from your wallet in the way you save completely with your wallet data secrets. You must also prevent ICO scam carefully and selectively in choosing ICO, you should read carefully and check all the completeness of the ICO from the website, whitepaper, rules, joining team, wallet, plathform, supply from investors and supporters.

Free doesn't mean good. Nowadays there is a lot of fake ICO or altcoins that will try to draw your attention to participate but you will sure lose your money because it is scam, so study and do research before you invest.

yes, scam doesnt mean that you will lose something like money, as long as something important has been taken to you by some people it is considered as scam, even your time, your hard work, and even your effort.

People can really make such claims or sayings that it is a scam yet they haven't received nothing inspite on putting up those informations. We wont really lose nothing but the essence on complying things without getting something can really put up on our minds that they are just lying out. Email addresses can really be used up on other means, accumulating lots of emails would be possibly used up and pile up with their email list.

Like other users already pointed out, a scam doesn't involve necessarily somebody that takes away your money, but this somebody could take away your precious time that can be invested in other activities (other airdrops for example) and that's a fraud because you are not getting what promised in the first place
