http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1pr62j/adventurer_to_make_first_ever_bitcoin_transaction/

Frank, over at Reddit, is seeking a flag design and help with options to make sure this comes to fruition. If he's able to pull this off, I commit to sending him $50 USD via BTC for his efforts, even though he's expressed that he can handle the cost. He's located in Capt Town, so logistics is no longer a concern.

Any help from the community is welcome in this regard. Please head on over to Reddit and give Frank a hand.

Only less than $328 USD to go to reach the ~$3,000 needed to carry a Bitcoin flag to the South Pole: https://blockchain.info/address/1Gt1anYr6gEuiNgacFouhy4RUNQFH3YY9Y

Frank is trying his damndest to make sure one is in hand by Monday afternoon (local time). Any help is appreciated: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1pr62j/adventurer_to_make_first_ever_bitcoin_transaction/

Wow! Things are moving fast! Strong work all!

The only thing left is pulling a flag outta our ass in less than 48 hours, but Frank over at Reddit is on it. I PMed Jason King to see if there's anyway for him to lean a hand. We are so close!

Under $300 USD now, so it looks like money won't be a problem: https://blockchain.info/address/1Gt1anYr6gEuiNgacFouhy4RUNQFH3YY9Y

Helped a little, too, even though I globally hate flags, I like the "Bitcoin can't be frozen" statement. Smiley

How much time left?

And how much is needed?

Ill cover in 2 hours what ever else we need.

About $70 USD, but should be covered with plenty of time left. The deadline is not until about Monday afternoon local Cape Town, I'm guessing tomorrow evening ~US time. Somebody double check the time zones, please.

The issue is still the flag, of which Frank over at Reddit is on top of and I guess he'll do his damndest Sunday/early Monday morning to get a flag made and delivered to the hotel prior to departure. We all have our finger crossed on this aspect.

It'd be cool if you could put names on the flag depending on the amount donated (:

Looks like the goal is essentially met (€2000).

A signed message from the donation address is the next step. (In retrospect ought to have been my first step and the first step of any bitcoin journalist).

I commend your determination, but realistically you won't be anywhere near the south pole. Most likely a ice shelf off the coast of antarctica. I doubt they'll let you get near where you ought to go. But, you may be able to reach the North Pole which I think would be more interesting anyway.

It would be neat if you could get a Bitcoin flag directly under Polaris the North Star at the real North Pole. Everyone could follow the North Star to reach it.

Roger. I am in control of that. Does this work? Worked it out on Blockchain.info.

I believe most people were lead to believe that all the money donated was going to be controlled by Faysal. BTW, who is Faycal?

My first article on coin desk: http://www.coindesk.com/adventurer-make-first-ever-bitcoin-transaction-south-pole/

Most of the Coindesk article was gleaned from http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/afp/130422/frenchman-aims-both-poles-year-world-first with a quote somehow my Faysal thrown in good measure.

I sure the hell hope that we weren't played yesterday (1:53AM local).

Richard, the author of the coindesk article, interviewed Faysal via both gmail and his public figure Facebook account and confirmed the Bitcoin address with Faysal (the brave explorer). This is as legit as it comes without signatures and irc logs.

I think we need some best practice guidelines so folks not as accustomed to computer nerd security culture can make themselves stand out more clearly from scammers.

Again...I believe this address to be valid and Thorkill (the big 6.8 BTC donor/Sirius money) to be legitimately acting on Faysal's behalf.
