What is your investment plan? will you go for long term or short term investment? If long term, find a coin that you think that has a potential to grow more in the future, of course you will need to do a deep research for you to be able to decide. For short term I think investing in a cryptocurrency that has a huge trading volume will be good. I won't suggest any coin because investing in cryptocurrency market are speculative investment, you should decide by your own. Investing in an ICO will be good but nowadays it is really hard to find a good project that really can contribute and can really solve something new. Also don't focus on one investment, spread your money.

I recommend you not to stick to a single option. You can create your own portfolio by dividing your money. I can not suggest many coins that you can choose. if you are a newbie then I suggest to buy a coin that already has a good reputation such as etherum. it will make us feel safe and comfortable in making investments. coin with a good popularity in the eyes of the public will make us can make decisions much easier. without having to think harder we can invest more safely, I am sure that if we invest in a new coin then the risk will be much higher than when we invest in a coin that has a good reputation.

Split you money into parts and invest into top coins(BTC,ETH), few trending(like ripple, neo, etc.) and also some money you can invest into ICOs.
The idea is just not to put all money into one coin.

Do not invest in the market because it is not safe right now all coins are affected due to bitcoin manipulation. I recommend you to participate in ICOs because there are bonuses but you will have to choose carefully.

Its a bargain to buy NEO. If it will dip more the better for you to buy neo. I have been buying over and over and have profit every time because of the GAS. There are also several coins that you will sure profit in the future like Binance coin and KCS. I'm a fan of these two for its useful to have discount in transaction fee in trading.

You will never know when to sell because the advisors will not be able to tell you the right time to sell. Don't be that much extravagant. Try to invest with your own decisions. Buy top 100 coins in the coinmarketcap today that is on sale(not in a gain). To know if a certain altcoin is lower than it's usual average price or not, refer to the graphs to see the ups and downs of it in the past months. You can also invest those 1000 USD dollars on ICO's as they are very profitable, but very risky as well. Only buy coins from ICO's if you are prepared to take huge risks in order to gain profit.

I think you should buy the major currencies and a few altcoins in order to some sort of altcoin brought you a lot of profit and major currencies for a long time investment

I'm interested on what is the definition of major currency for you compares to Altcoin? All cryptocurrencies besides bitcoin is what we called Altcoins since Bitcoin is our major currency here.

Answering the best crypto to purchase by 1000USD. This is  a case to case basis what is your preferred type of investment. Long term or short term? If long term then pick the top 10 currency on CMC but if short term then buy on a promising ICO then dump once exchange available.

The point is some people know better than me about coins. But you are right. I think I should learn more about cryptocurrencies before making an investment.
