I sat my 7yr old son down and showed him my ledger nano and how to use it in case anything ever happens to me.
I explained there is electronic money on it and it will be his one day. Went through the process of wiping it and restoring with the seed. But reminded him never ever tell anyone about it is our secret.

He's a smart kid and was amazed at how it's secured by an extremely complex code and that no one can steal the money you can take it anywhere and it's safer than a bank because the ledger is a bank itself (i know that's not quite correct but still). I didn't tell him how much are on there but told him one day it will be extremely valuable that's why I'm telling him about it is for him when he grows up.

Later that day we talked about how to secure the seed and printing it on a metal plate. He thinks it is so cool.

It amazed me how a child instantly understood it and showed how cryptos are for the future generations not us. We are early adopters so buy at least 1 bitcoin for your kids. Just might set them up for life.

My 8 year old knew about bitcoin from playing "Bitcoin Billionaire" on iOS. I looked at the game and laughed but the concept of mining with a computer were there along with a knowledge of digital currency as a replacement for money.

Hide your keys from your son. Do not create a situation where he could give those keys to friends via peer pressure. Kids at a young age are very easily convinced by older peers that they are doing nothing wrong.

Educate your son on this, and maybe consider splitting your wallet among multiple keys. I personally have 2 Trezor devices and one Ledger. Looking at a 4th. Each member of my family has a copy of specific keys (or partial sets of keys where they need to unite to unlock the cryptocurrency). This is so no single hiccup can clean me out.

Good luck, and I'm glad your son is learning!

well that's much better for our children, because with we love to know about bitcoin to our children surely our children will be able to know how to earn income in bitcoin world and our children can also continue the business / assets that we have today

Don't know if it's a good idea...
I mean : Is money something understandable for kids? And what about an alt money?
I think a paper wallet with his name on it is a better way to transfer this "secret" ^^

That is awesome man glad you could enjoy that moment with your child. I don't have children yet but one day I aim to have a similar discussion with them, and who knows I may not be passing on Bitcoins Roll Eyes.

Its always a good idea to teach them early. They would know the value of having it and losing it as well. It will teach them early about the business specially that this will definitely replace money in the future. Also teach them the value of keeping ang securingbsomething important

Indeed, today there are far more opportunities to provide for their children than before. Our parents didn't have as many tools to earn as we have now!
You're doing well, I'm sure that your son will appreciate your concern in the future.

I would have thought any age below 12 would not be a good idea
but with hindsight and the op i realise the younger generations
are really digitally clued in, they are growing up in a digital age
and are surrounded by it.

Well done to the op

Children are more inclined to learn new things and are quicker to perceive.
Learn him more about the digital currency, how it works and by the age of 20th, he will be able to develop his own special program.
Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man To Fish, and You Feed Him for a Lifetime.
Teach him about such developers Vitalik Buterin, He may be someday become like him.

Um, was there no one more mature to inform about this?

There's no way I'd trust a seven year old with something like that. Their comprehension of it would be far from fully formed. The next thing you know he's showing it your neighbours when you're out and about.

When I was seven years old I was convinced my Dad had a million quid when in reality he had about a tenner in the bank.

really lucky you have a smart child, when you explain about your bitcoin quickly your child understands, of course things you do that is very good. we do not know how we are going forward, if we do not explain to our closest people now and let happen bad thing happened to us, surely the people closest you do not know the investment you have at that time.

You are a very lucky man, you have a nice and smart kid keep it up and teach him just good things.

When I was 7 I wasn't too good in everything just in school and that's it, now the new generation is getting better and better but we have to teach them how they need to use their brain not all the time with the eyes on the phone or pc they need some freedom sometimes.

Of course kids can learn fast and totally understand how money works. And they can understand even more naturally how the response to the money monster is cryptocurrencies.

It is not up to us to judge if the kid will show it to their friends or not... His father probably knows what he is doing.

Congrats bro, i would do the same!

Although the child is very intelligent and has understood everything perfectly, I think it would be a good idea to write the instructions on paper and keep this paper in a safe place.

I do not think i would understand these things when i was seven years old and as a kid if he is excited about what you tried to teach him he will tell everyone about his dad's secret money that could make him rich, he is too young to keep secrets anyway.  Tongue I do have kids but they are busy playing and they wont understand anything even if i try to teach them about bitcoin and it is not the right age to understand these things. It amazed me how a child instantly understood it and showed how cryptos are for the future generations not us. We are early adopters so buy at least 1 bitcoin for your kids. Just might set them up for life.
We have an advantage being an early adopter and sure it will make a difference in the future when it comes to economics and trade.

well that's much better for our children, because with we love to know about bitcoin to our children surely our children will be able to know how to earn income in bitcoin world and our children can also continue the business / assets that we have today
Make sure you teach them the importance of education rather than business and assets at this age. I would like to see kids enjoying their life rather than learning about economics and bitcoin, you cannot earn income without knowledge and education.

When I was 7 I wasn't too good in everything just in school and that's it, now the new generation is getting better and better but we have to teach them how they need to use their brain not all the time with the eyes on the phone or pc they need some freedom sometimes.
I do not agree with the fact that the new generation are getting better, they are living in a world surrounded by technology and it will have an adverse affect in future, when i was a kid we used to go out and play and now a days kids use video games, i do not think it is a healthy situation.

He's a smart kid and was amazed at how it's secured by an extremely complex code and that no one can steal the money you can take it anywhere and it's safer than a bank because the ledger is a bank itself (i know that's not quite correct but still). That is a good idea but for me a 7 year old is not yet responsible enough and could make mistakes. But that age is a good age wherein we could already teach him the knowledge about bitcoin and how to use it as well as its nature. But for me I dont want to risk my bitcoin to 7 year old, at this age I will only share knowledge but when he will turns 18 that is the time I will give him a bitcoin.

You have to slowly let your child understand the digital cryptocurrency!

Once it was hard for him to remember things that looked complicated!

Buy a BTC for your children and save it, and when they get married they can give them a wedding gift. It must be great!
