Bitcoin itself isn't a good cryptocurrency but what makes it so valuable is the fact that it's the first one that is accepted in almost (if not any) exchange there is. Bitcoin is valuable 'cause it's Bitcoin.

Ethereum, on the other hand, is the first currency for deploying smart contracts. It's also available in almost any exchange and is well known. ETH is definitely a more developed crypto than BTC.
