On which exchange (if any) can we buy NXT?
dgex.com
Be patient with deposits/withdrawals though...
The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

Also to clarify, do you need to have the web interface open to mine?

You need to have the server running and account unlocked Smiley
By this i mean that you can close the localhost page, you mustn't ''log out'' though.
So enter your pass phrase and close the page, that should do. Maybe it changed, let's see what c-f-b says.

I think we should create a FAQ section on the first page..

I'm also badly stuck at 0 blocks with any version from 0.3.9 upwards. No errors, but no blocks.

Never mind, unlocking an account starts the action  Smiley

Isn't peer-coin our main competitor since they're PoS too?

Isn't Peer-coin still on Bitcoin code?

Is this a disadvantage? Bitcoin code is now well tested and pretty mature.

I think PPC and NXT indeed are competitors as both claim to be energy-efficient. I see PPC's plus on the (actual) higher security, and NXT's plus that no mining is needed at all.

@bugs:

Client 3.10 seems not to work here. I get no web interface ("The connection was reset" error)
3.6 (my last update before 3.10) works well.

Version 0.3.10 - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/67242472/nxt.zip

API now available on 7874 (http) and 7875 (https) ports.

API request format changed from localhost:7876/?request=XXX to localhost:7874/nxt?requestType=XXX

2 parameters in web.xml added:
"allowedUserHosts" (not enabled yet) and "allowedBotHosts". An example of "allowedBotHosts" value - "*" for all hosts or "173.194.70.102; 204.79.197.200" for some of them.
As a quick trick web interface can be "disabled" by deleting all *.html files in "nxt/webapps/root" directory.

It works fine after it has downloaded the blockchain, but some minor problems before (connected to https://localhost:7875).

- when the blockchain is not complete, there is no "catching up" message and the block count does not update
- hitting f5 logs out an account immediately
- after logging in the block count is increased, but still no catching up message
- hitting f5 again logs out the account

after sync:

88.198.210.245 is blinking in the GUI all the time (annoying), and is displayed 200 times in the list of known peers.

I had it too, even if java was not running anymore the port was still locked. After a reboot 3.10 started working.

the vps have had a nasty crash due to out of memory.

Quote
Exception in thread "Thread-15" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread
        at java.lang.Thread.start0(Native Method)
        at java.lang.Thread.start(Thread.java:693)
        at Nxt$7.run(Unknown Source)

i have seen numerous spawned threads by the client on the box.
i think this one was because of extensive api usage.
but every version is going better and better, good job cfb.

Yes be careful! I know of one user who has been scammed. Read through the thread until you find someone who has been verified as being honest. or you can go to http://dgex.com and buy them that way with btc, although it could take a couple of days to clear.

2 reasons I can think of, 1- you used the wrong pass phrase 2 - you have reinstalled the nxt client and you are catching up the block chain.

if its (2) just wait and your balance will come back.

I have had a similar thing and the balance has always come back.

I mean you need to read through the posts to find someone who has had a good experience with a nxt seller. IMO your best option is to use http://dgex.com if you dont know the person you are trading with.

Hm. I login and it says my wallet is zero. I look on block explorer and it says all my coins are present, solely inbound transactions. Should I just wait it out?
